 3. Autumn Trip to Stratford-Upon-Avon

if
you're interested! Here's what the town has to offer...
This beautiful market town, steeped in culture and history, is the
birthplace of William Shakespeare. Set in the beautiful rural Warwickshire
countryside, on the banks of the river Avon, it is one of the most
important tourist destinations in the UK. Join the *guided walking tours
(£5)* and follow in Shakespeare's footsteps from cradle to grave, along the
historic spine of ancient Stratford, while learning more about his story
(trust me! guided tours are worth it!). Or if you prefer travelling
independently, you could do a free walk using a map which we will provide
you with. There are many places to see in the town! Come visit *Shakespeare's
Birthplace (£14)*, and watch some of his best-loved scenes brought to life
by actors as you stroll through the house; as well as *Anne Hathaway's
Cottage (£8)*, the childhood home of Shakespeare's wife. Or take a walk
along the *River Avon Trail*, and admire the beautiful scenery along the
way. If you like, you could also *rent a bike* for half a day to explore
the town (£10)! Or just relax by the riverside with your friends! For those
interested in creative inventions, you could make a trip down to the
*Mechanical
and Art Design Museum (MAD) (£5)*! Stratford-upon-Avon also offers options
for *shopping* as well, with its collection of unusual and appealing shops
set amongst major high street stores.
The details are as follows:
*Date:* 23 November 2013, Saturday
*Time:* Leave ICL at 0830, leave Stratford Upon Avon at 1700
*Price:* £8 (members), £10 (non-members). This covers the price of the
return coach ride. Members are welcomed to invite friends along (up to 2),
but take note that priority will be given to members.
People who manage to sign up will shortly receive a confirmation email with
payment instructions. Your place will only be confirmed when you make
payment before a stipulated date (to be communicated to you separately
again). If you have any queries, please feel free to contact me at
07762835642 or email me at eventsofficer1(a)ic-singsoc.net.
Hope to see you there!
Your friendly Events Officer,
Yu Zheng

                         Updates
Helloooo everyone! Happy Halloween!
Firstly, our *Ordinary General Meeting (OGM)* will be held on 13th Nov,
Wednesday. The OGM is a fun and relaxed meet-up session where we can look
back on our past experiences together, and where the Exco will also tell
you what exciting events we have planned up ahead! All participants will
also get a free cup of Ben and Jerry's, and if you have signed up for ICSS
membership, you will also be getting your membership card (with a very
pretty design I must say!).
In other news, *Hall Fiesta* has been successfully concluded and we would
like to thank everyone for the wonderful dishes! The online Facebook liking
competition will be open soon, do go and vote for your favourite dishes, or
support your hall! The Hall Fiesta prizes will then be given out during OGM
(so it'd be good to come down to OGM in case you win something, haha). In
addition, *Major Event Mix & Mingle* has also been successfully concluded
last Monday, and we would like to thank everyone for coming down! And of
course, as per always, it's never too late to join Major Event, just
approach our friendly Major Event Officer, Chuan Khim, and he'll be
delighted to hear from you (:
And of course... the time that everyone's been waiting for... the *musical
outing* sign-ups are open! Grab your tickets now; tickets are sold on a
first-come first-serve basis! Otherwise, look out for news about *ICSS
Squash*, and lastly, careers as usual!
All the best for the week ahead!
Your faithful secretary,
Siming

Hey everyone! It's me again!
Our ICSS Portsmouth Shopping Trip was successfully concluded last
Wednesday; I'm sure all who went had a good time shopping! (: Next up on

have managed to secure 25 stall seats for Billy Elliot at £22.50 each!
Sign-ups will open next Friday, 1st Nov at 10pm, and slots will be
allocated on a first come first serve basis, so prepare yourselves!
And keeping up with the hype, *Nottingham Games* are coming up this
Saturday, so if you are not in any sports team yet, do approach the
respective Sports I/Cs to join us in a day of sports! Hall Fiesta is also
happening these few days, do look out for the Facebook online voting
competition which will be out soon!
In our arts arena... *Major Event mix and mingle* is happening on Monday!
If you would still like to join Major Event (it's never too late!), do

learn how to sing, do sign up for these classes and we'll have a friendly
coach teaching you!
Lastly, our *Ordinary General Meeting (OGM)* will be happening on
Wednesday, 13th Nov. If you have any items you wish to raise in the agenda,
please email me at secretary(a)ic-singsoc.net. And before I end off, also

 2. Portsmouth Shopping Trip
Last Wednesday, on IC Commemoration Day, some of our ICSS members decided
that they will be better off shopping in Portsmouth instead of staying in
London... and off they went! Thankfully, the weather was great and we hope
that all participants had a great time sightseeing, shopping and eating
seafood! For those who did not managed to join us this time round, fret
not, there are always other trips to look forward to! *hint hint Autumn

 3. Billy Elliot Musical Outing
Hi everyone! We've heard you, and we've managed to give you the musical
that you wanted (student price was not available for the most popular
choice, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", thus I went with the 2nd most
popular option), Billy Elliot! The story, in summary..
"*Set in a northern mining town, against the background of the 1984/’85
miners’ strike, Billy Elliot is the inspirational story of a young boy’s
struggle against the odds to make his dream come true. Follow Billy’s
journey as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class where
he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and whole
community and changes his life forever... Winner of 5 Laurence Olivier
Awards."

 4. Hall Fiesta
Now now, we're seeing some good food around already! Here's more
information about the competition this year:
As usual, the theme of the Hall Fiesta this year is Singaporean. The dishes
should bear resemblance to our country's finest culinary dishes (: And
after a long and tiring night of cooking, please remember to snap photos of
the wonderful dishes you cook and send it to admin(a)ic-singsoc.net. Please
send your photos to the above-mentioned email *with captions* by *
5th November.*
There are three prize categories for the Hall Fiesta itself. Firstly, its
the *Most Popular* award. The photos you send in will be uploaded to the
ICSS Facebook page as a complete Hall Fiesta album. The hall with the dish
getting the greatest number of likes will win this award (with an
additional bonus to the chef!). The number of online likes will be collated
at the end of *12th November*. The second award is the *Closest to Home* award
where the committee will decide on the most attractive dish. The third
category is the *Best Caption* award where the photo with the most
mesmerising caption will win.
We hope all of you are extremely eager to start cooking. The prizes will be
really awesome!

 7. UKSSC Annual General Meeting
The United Kingdom-Singapore Students' Council (UKSSC) will be having
their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 16 Nov 2013.
Formed in August 1998, the United Kingdom-Singapore Students’ Council
(UKSSC) is an independent, student-led organisation that aims to create a
bona fide Singapore student community across the United Kingdom. The UKSSC
works closely with the various societies, government organisations and
private agencies to achieve this.
The AGM is an opportunity for the UKSSC Exco to account and report to the
Partner Society Leaders on their work over the year. It is also where the
elections for the next committee take place. All Singaporeans studying in
UK universities are welcomed to run. Both current students and freshers are
most welcome to run for the elections. Over the last few years, freshers
have held key positions including Vice President, Treasurer and Regional
Director. Everyone who is keen to contribute to supporting and
strengthening the Singaporean student community in the UK is highly
encouraged to run for the UKSSC.
