Hi everyone!
Our *Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2015 *and *Committee Elections* are
happening on 18 March! Do note this date down for it is an important day
where you, as a member of the society, know of how your membership fund has
been managed, as well as get to hear of the final round-up of all the
events and activities that have been planned for you in the academic year
2014 - 2015. In addition, the committee elections will be held on the same
day when you get to exercise your vote in deciding your next committee to
run the society! To make an informed and intelligent decision, I strongly
encourage all members to attend this event for you would know what each
candidate has to say and provide for you in the next academic year. You
would also have the opportunity to ask questions and clarify your doubts
too. As a stakeholder, this is definitely an event not to be missed.
Our awesome *Chinese New Year Dinner* sign-ups are still open! After
receiving feedback from previous year's attendees that the food weren't all
that fantastic, we have come up with a BRAND NEW 10-COURSE MENU for
everyone! Top this up with karaoke, games, lucky draw (with really exciting
prizes), and the awesome company of friends and buddies, the night is bound
to be a blast!
Finally, *Major Event 2015: Brothers*, the major production so many of us
have been spending so much time, effort and energy in for the past 4 to 5
months will come to fruition in one single night - 28 February. Do check
out our beautiful trailer HERE

3. Ski Trip 2014
ICSS concluded her annual ski trip during the winter holidays. This year,
the ski trip was held at La Plagne 1800 in France. After braving the 20
hour bus journey to the resort, participants managed to have 6 days of
skiing in the clear skies whilst surrounded by the Alps. Although the snow
conditions were a little icy, I do hope that everyone who attended the trip
managed to enjoy themselves thoroughly - whether through getting to know
new people from other schools, or dancing your heart out during the nightly
dance sessions, or helping yourself to the free flow of ice cream.
Also, Christmas was celebrated in the resort by a Christmas dinner prepared
by UCPA. The photos from the photobooth will be up on the ICSS page soon,
so do look out for that!
I would like to thank each and every participant for making this an
unforgettable trip, and would especially like to thank those that helped me
carry bags, facilitate administration etc. Couldn't have done it without
you guys! I hope the delay by the bus did not dampen your spirits and that
you'll be back for more next year!
Regards,
Leon

Hi everyone!
The weather hasn't been any warmer these few days! Hope everyone's coping
well with the cold, especially the Freshers who may not have experience
this weather ever! Do put on more layers when you go out and turn up the
heater indoors to keep yourself all warm and comfy :)
So, this will be the last Kaya & Toast for the year 2014! It has been a
fantastic year since the new term began in early October, and I'm sure to
miss writing Kaya & Toast. ICSS has been hard at work organising various
events and many activities to bond Singaporeans since then. Let's recall
what we've had so far!
On the very first day of term, 4 October, we've had an *Airport Pick-up
Service* catered to all our members who touched down in London that day. On
the same day, we've had our very own *Hall Walkabout* where some seniors
gladly volunteered to bring the Freshers around their Halls, showing them
to some nearby amenities, the way to college, as well as some tips and
tricks living in London! Many seniors were more than happy to share their
experiences with the Freshers as I witnessed some of us ranting on about
our lives as a fresher more than the freshers asking questions! A few who
have ordered duvets with us also came to a really convenient location near
college to collect them during Hall Walkabout.
But one walkabout just isn’t enough and so on the next Saturday, we’ve had
an *Orientation Group Walkabout*. *Mario* went touristy around London
Bridge and Borough Market while ambitious *Pink Panther* had an awesome
feat covering Central London, the Olympic Stadium and even Westfield
Stratford City at Zone 3 in a day! Non-mainstream *Blue’s Clues* and
*Shaggy* immersed in the alternative culture of Camden Town before
splitting ways to Regent’s Park and Covent Gardens later in the day. Both
*Bond* and *Scooby* paid a visit to the Big Ben and Trafalgar Square before
heading to St James Park and Eastside Bar respectively. A whole day out
exploring London is exciting but that is just not all of the fun.
So, on 18 October, we’ve held our annual *Hyde Park Picnic* at Hyde Park
(duh)! It was indeed a fun-filled day of sports and some friendly eating
competition (recall carrots, Coke and peanut butter). It served as a
platform for everyone who participated in Sojourn to catch up with one
another too. With over 100 members turning up, the event concluded our
Freshers’ Package. However, that was certainly not the end.
Our very first trip out of London happened on 22 October when a few lucky
souls got to *Thorpe Park* on a weekday! Just two days later, President
Tony Tan visited Imperial College as part of his *state visit*, and some
had the rare opportunity to shake his hand and speak with him. Many of us
even appeared on TV back home too. It was indeed a day which Singaporeans
may rejoice in and celebrate the strong ties between the United Kingdom and
Singapore.
*Major** Event* Mix & Mingle happened on 27 October where all the teams
gathered for the first time and many team members bonded over some food and
chit-chat. Our directors had also put up an entertaining show to introduce
the plot to all. On 1 November, many of us took a long trip up to
Nottingham to represent Imperial in the *Nottingham Winter Games* and we
took home 1st Runner-up in one category and Champions in four categories!
Our *Ordinary General Meeting* was held on 12 November where lots of
important information was shared with the members over a small but precious
tub of Ben & Jerry’s. Many of us also had a* Hall Cookout* prior to OGM and
a representative from each hall eventually whipped up their best dishes on
the same day and competed in the *Imperial Iron Chef*. It was indeed quite
a feast for the first few fortunate members who turned up early for OGM!
Forty fastest-fingers also managed to grab tickets to the *Book of
Mormon* musical
in less than a minute after sign-ups open, and enjoyed the hilarious show
on 17 November in each other's company. Most recently, a group of us popped
up in *Birmingham* and had an awesome time sipping hot cider and
promenading through the Christmas Market (until it became overcrowded that
we had to elbow our way out).
Autumn Term was indeed packed with something going on almost every week,
notwithstanding our various Major Event teams slogging away every week
painting our hands dry, tearing our vocal chords, strumming till our
fingers get sore, or regurgitating lines after lines and braving the
weather for the film. Everyone does deserve a pat on their back for all the
effort and time invested in Major Event, and of course, a break from it!
Near the end of term, some of us can look forward to our annual *Ski Trip*,
skiing amongst the stolid snow mountains of France, and perhaps gawk at
Mont Blanc from afar.
Spring Term will even be more exciting than Autumn with a* Chinese New Year
dinner* and more musicals to look forward to! We will be back with a blast,
surely.
I hope you’ve enjoyed Kaya & Toast all the while! Here’s wishing you a Merry
Christmas and Happy New Year (way in advance)! See y’all next year and take
care! :)
Your awesome secretary,
Weihao Lim

3. Imperial Iron Chef 2014
Last Wednesday, a few aspiring young chefs whipped up several dishes for
this year's Imperial Iron Chef. A few lucky members who turned up early for
OGM got a hand in tasting these dishes and play a part in deciding the
winner of Imperial's very own Iron Chef!
The dishes were clearly palatable and appealing. Much thought has been put
into the preparation, cooking and organisation of their dishes indeed. This
year, we are proud to announce that the Iron Chef 2014 goes to *Chee Wei
Jie*! His dish was sesame chicken and has garnered the most thumbs-up from
the judges.
We would also like to thank all participants for their effort and time in
preparation for Iron Chef:
*Russell Foo & Rion You* - Ramen
*Nicholas Tan* - Ondeh Ondeh
*Collin Wan* - Laksa
*Victoria Yap *- Claypot Rice
*Ng Pei Yi *- Onion Pastry
*Benjamin Ng* - Sweet & Sour Chicken
We hope everyone has had an enjoyable time at the event and at your
respective Hall Cookouts too! See y'all next year :)

4. The Book of Mormon Musical
Our musical outing to The Book of Mormon was concluded last Monday, 17

much-needed break from studies. A big THANK YOU to everyone for making the
event a great success! We hope to see a similarly enthusiastic response
from all of you for our subsequent musicals in the spring term! Stay tuned!

The College extends their appreciation to all who participated in the
welcome and looks forward to working with the Society in future as well!

4. UKBound 2014 - Impulse
UKBound 2014 - Impulse concluded on the 5th of September with the crowning
of Mr & Ms UKBound 2014. With a packed house, we started the event off with
a bang, showcasing our talented and lovely pageant contestants from all
around the United Kingdom. The freshmen, hailing from London to Durham,
sashayed down the catwalk elegantly, displaying their lovely bods and their
eccentric performances. We also conducted the inaugural Gameshow, testing
our contestants from various schools around the UK on their knowledge and
their ''problem-solving'' skills. We ended the event by having Ms Amanda
Leong, Ms ASEAN 2013, crown Mr David Hu from LSE as our Mr UKBound and Ms
Alicia Tan from UCL as our Ms UKBound. We would like to thank them and all
our other contestants for the countless hours rehearsing for this massive
show. Most importantly, we would like to thank our main sponsors, Ingersoll
& Vivienne Westwood for their commitment and their help in making this
event a success. Finally, we would also like to thank the members and
freshmen from the Imperial College Singapore Society for their support in
coming down and their role in creating an electrifying atmosphere. We look
forward to seeing all of you in our upcoming freshers' events!
Allow me to give a short introduction of our Sponsors.
*Ingersoll*
Founded in 1892, Ingersoll has produced timepieces that have withstood the
test of time, and had been worn by great individuals like President
Roosevelt, Mark Twain and Thomas Edison. Following its rich tradition,
Ingersoll continues to produce exquisite and affordable automatic
timepieces, which are sold in over 40 countries.
*Vivienne Westwood *
Vivienne Westwood, the brand and designer, are British through and through.
With a design record over forty years, Westwood constantly references
historical British fashion and culture as inspiration for her designs and
ideas.

Sameer

1. President's Note
Hi everyone :)
ICSS has finally concluded all of our events we have in our Summer
Calendar! *cues applause* This Summer has indeed been a fruitful one.
Even before we came back to Singapore, the 32nd Exco had already begun
our preparation for the Summer events. But we couldn't have started
anything without the first publication of the Sotong Guide by Jing Yi,
the Liaisons Officer. This wonderful guide continues to serve its purpose
of educating Freshers (including those from other London Universities
apparently!) about what they should take note of before and after arriving
in London!
We started off with a Pre-Departure Talk which saw more than 80 freshers
and their family who were present. And within the next month, we had our
annual orientation, Sojourn 2014 - Mystery. I am glad and heartened to see
many of the OGLs and OGlings still meeting up for OG outings!
I would like to take this opportunity to send my thanks to Weihao, my
Secretary, and Lincoln, my Events Officer who has helped to spearhead the
planning and execution of PDT as well as Sojourn respectively. I would also
like to thank the OGHs as well as Team Sojourn for their dedicated efforts
in making the Freshers' orientation experience awesome.
Shortly after the conclusion of Sojourn, the many sports interest groups
started their training for the exciting Warwick Summer Games co-ordinated
by my Sports Officer, Yu Quan and the many different Sports
Representatives. Regardless of our results and scores, I would like to
commend every participant for their dedication to the sport and for
maintaining a high level of sportsmanship throughout.
And we finally reached the final event on our Summer calendar, UKBound
2014-Impulse. This is the 16th year ICSS has been running this keynote
event that is uniquely ICSS. Many many thanks to Sameer, my Events Officer
who has organised this event and pulled the Exco together for the execution
for this event. The event saw the participation of more than 15
universities which fulfilled its purpose, to draw as many UK schools as
possible for 1 combined event before we all leave for our studies. We will
aim to include more schools in future. Thank you to everyone who turned up
for the event!
This Summer has been hectic for the Exco, but ultimately our hopes
remains that the members start to see ICSS as a Family, to build a home
away from home when we are in London. Like all relationships, it takes time
and effort to build. Sometimes it takes a couple of drops of tears and a
few heartbreaks. But these will only serve to strengthen the bonds between
us, to learn to accept each other for who we truly are. Hence, Family.
Read on for more updates regarding what's in store for you guys in the
months ahead! :) In the mean time, I hope that, for both Seniors and
Freshers alike, you guys have enjoyed your summer and have a safe flight
back to London. See you guys really soon! :)

Hi everyone!
It has been a *really* long time since the previous issue of Kaya & Toast!
Did you miss us? ;) And I hope everyone is doing great so far!
In this week's issue, look out for the details regarding *UKBound*, *Ski
Trip* and *Major Event 2015*! The *Duvet Order* is also available for all
members this year. In addition, *Warwick Summer Games* concluded yesterday
and we have done well indeed!
This issue is also the first issue to be received by all freshers who are
starting their first academic year in 2014! Welcome to ICSS, short for
*Imperial
College Singapore Society*!
*Kaya & Toast* is a (most of the time) weekly newsletter which the society
sends to all members to disseminate important information and events which
you may be interested in! These include exciting offers for various
activities organised by the society such as Ski Trip and musical outings.
Most of the instructions on how to sign up for these events will be
included in their respective portions. Hence, it is essential to keep
yourself updated with Kaya & Toast!
The newsletter is also one of many platforms for communication between
Singaporeans in Imperial, our sponsors and external organisations. As such,
advertisements and career information by these parties may be included in
the newsletter too.
If you have any queries regarding any of the information and events
featured in Kaya & Toast, do not hesitate to contact the EXCO member in
charge of the event, or the secretary (me!) at secretary(a)ic-singsoc.net
Have an awesome week ahead! :)

something new as well. Lets celebrate the new academic year (not really,
huh?) with the Freshers and more importantly... the *NEW SEGMENT*. This
year, we're hosting a *GAMESHOW* as well as a *PAGEANT*. So if you wanna
find out which college knows how many Zara's there are in Oxford Street or
the number of columns at Stonehenge, come on down for a night of fun! The
tickets now cost only *23SGD* with complimentary access to Zouk afterwards!
We know we will see you there because its going to be a BLAST!
To purchase your tickets, kindly approach your OGH. Otherwise, you may

2. Ski Trip
Thinking of what to do this Christmas? Looking forward to another year of
skiing? Sign-ups for this year's ski trip has opened! The details for this
year's trip are as follows:
*Location:* UCPA La Plagne
*Date:* 19 Dec 14 - 28 Dec 14
*Price:* £559 + £5 admin fee for non members
Join us for another round of fun on the slopes, and do feel free to invite
your friends to come along! Also, as this year's ski trip spans throughout
Christmas, we will be celebrating this festive season during the trip, so
be sure not to miss out and join us for a ball of a time.
Sign up now through the link HERE
<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/4uv1r-8vp2d-1dehngf1cl?u=http://goo.gl/OKYyex>.
As places for the ski trip are limited, do try to sign up before 1st Sept
to increase your chances of obtaining a spot.
Due to the unfortunate timing of our school term dates, the resorts that
are able to accommodate a big group such as us are limited. As such, we
will be returning to La Plagne, one of the bigger resorts. La Plagne offers
a variety of entertainment options every night and is surrounded by slopes
that are suitable for beginners and steeper ones for those looking for a
challenge. The experience at La Plagne is not one to be missed!
If there are any queries about the ski trip, do feel free to contact me at
vicepresident(a)ic-singsoc.net.
Regards,
Leon Ooi
