                        *Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM)*
Dearest Members,
It is with a heavy heart that I announce to you the *resignation of Ms
Seraphina Rong, Secretary* of the 32nd ICSS Executive Committee.
The official resignation letter can be found *here
<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/4btj2-1ez6m-1e8mbmhuau?u=http%3A%2F%2Ffiles.…>*.
I
sincerely hope that everyone can read the letter to understand the
difficult situation that Seraphina is going through. In view of the vacant
position of Secretary, pursuant to Section 4 Article 19 of our constitution:
1. Any member of the Committee who wishes to resign shall submit an
official letter to the Committee and the letter shall be made public.
2. A by-election of the vacated post shall be conducted pursuant to
article 13(1) of this Constitution.
An *Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM)* will be held to *conduct a
by-election*. The details are as follows:
*Date:* 19th March, Wednesday
*Time:* 1300 - 1345 hrs
*Venue: *LT3, Roderic Hill Building (access via ACE Extension)
The *agenda* for the EGM can be found
*here*<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/4btj2-1ez6m-1e8mbmhuau?u=http%3A%2F%2Ffiles.…>
.
This is a short but really important meeting as it concerns the Exco and
the future of ICSS. As with all general meetings, it can only proceed when
a minimum quorum is reached, and we cannot do this without your support. I
sincerely urge all of you to come, as members, to elect the secretary who
will serve you in the year ahead. *Please do sign up for the meeting here
<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/4btj2-1ez6m-1e8mbmhuau?u=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.…>.
 *
I also encourage all members who feel for this society and are willing to
serve to step up and answer the call. As per elections during AGM, those
who are interested in running for the position would require nominations
and submission of manifestos. The full nomination procedure can be found *here
<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/4btj2-1ez6m-1e8mbmhuau?u=http%3A%2F%2Ffiles.…>*
.
On behalf of the 32nd Executive Committee, we wish Ms Seraphina Rong all
the best in her future endeavours.
Yours sincerely,
Clive Aw

32nd Executive Committee

> 1. Major Event 2014: A Kopi Affair
>
> On Saturday the 22nd of February 2014, our Kopi Affair came to life on
> stage. It was a brilliant night where our music, dance, acting, singing,
> resonated greatly with the audience and within the Great Hall, with our Set
> Design and Lights and Sounds providing a terrific backdrop for all of this
> to happen.
>
> It was a night that the teams prepared very hard for. Countless practices,
> almost so repetitive we could do everything with our eyes closed. Numerous
> combined rehearsals, where you could predict the next line from our cast,
> visualise the next dance and the smile on our dancers' faces, imagine
> hearing the melodic voices from chorale or that perfect harmony from the
> music team. Many many hours put into perfecting what we were going to bring
> to the audience - making sure our paint jobs were perfectly done, making
> sure our designs were up to standard.
>
> It was a night where the audience was thoroughly entertained by us.
> Laughing at the jokes we had for them, being amazed at our incredible
> dances, and arcade battle, and getai battle, crying and tearing with us
> during "Heart in your hand". Smiling at the finale, where we brought to
> them unification, togetherness, and a thoroughly entertaining and amazing
> singing and dancing piece.
>
> It was a night where all of us came together as one, for one goal, with
> one belief. We cheered one another on, gave our dearest friends
> pat-on-the-backs. We helped one another, be it just shining a torchlight
> backstage, or doing makeup, or just reminding one another of the dance or
> the song or the lines on stage. We stuck together.
>
> It was a brilliant night, and at the end, when the lights dimmed and the
> music ended, the applause we got from the audience rang on in our ears and
> hearts. That applause was not only from them, but from the bottom of our
> own hearts, to our peers, to our comrades-in-arms. The people whom we
> toiled with, whom we spent countless hours and numerous practices with. It
> was a night where we can be proud to be called one team, one Singsoc. One
> that is special - there will be no other like it.
>
> I'd like to use to chance to extend my utmost gratitude, and
> congratulations to each and every single participant of A Kopi Affair 2014.
> Thank you all for your dedication, and amazing qualities you have brought
> with you to the table. I sincerely hope that you've had fun in this journey
> as I have had, that it has been enjoyable and memorable, as it has been for
> me. I hope you've made many more friends and soulmates in this Singaporean
> community we call home. A home that we won't go back to without you.
>
> On Saturday the 22nd of February, A Kopi Affair officially ended, but our
> Kopi Affair will live on in our hearts.
>
> Most sincerely, your Major Event Officer,

> *2. Nominations for Exco positions*
>
> *Nominations and submission of manifestos are now open*! For those
> considering running for a position, or want to nominate a friend you think
> is suitable, please read the following carefully:
>
> *Candidacy Eligibility Criteria*
> To run for office, you must be a full member of the ICSS. Other than that,
> there is no restriction on year of study, except that you must not be
> graduating or leaving Imperial at the end of the academic year, as you
> should complete a year-long term.
>
> *Nomination Criteria *
> Once again, only members can nominate people to run for office. Moreover, *self-nominations
> are not allowed*. Plus, if you are running for a position, you cannot
> nominate someone for that same position. Finally, note that the *nominator
> must be present at the elections*, and *each nomination needs to be
> seconded* at the election itself by at least 2 full members *who are
> similarly not running for that same position*.
>
> Now that all the restrictions are clearly stated above, how does one go
> about running for the Exco or nominating someone?
>
> *To Nominate Someone*
> Simply send an email to agm2014(a)ic-singsoc.net <agm2013(a)ic-singsoc.net> with
> the following details:
>
> 1. Your CID number (i.e. CID no. of nominator)
> 2. Your name
> 3. Your contact no.
> 4. Your email address
> 5. Name of nominee
> 6. Contact no. of nominee
> 7. Email address of nominee
> 8. Position that you wish the nominee to run for
>
> Once the nomination has been received by us, we will contact the nominee
> to get his/her agreement, before *publishing the names of both the
> nominator and the nominee* onto our website. Note that there *can be
> nominations at the elections* itself, similarly requiring at least 2
> seconders.
>
> *To Run for Office*
> Firstly, if you wish to find out more about the various Exco positions,
> you may approach any of the current Exco for more
> information. Alternatively, you can refer to our constitution<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/4a7wq-1ez6m-2knjah37fv?u=http%3A%2F%2Fe.grou…>
> .
>
> Secondly, it is highly recommended that all candidates who wish to run for
> office *submit a manifesto* that we will publish on our website within
> 48hrs of us acknowledging receipt. This is so that members can find out
> more about what you candidates are like and what you stand for. Manifestos
> should be submitted to agm2014(a)ic-singsoc.net <agm2013(a)ic-singsoc.net> *by
> 3rd March 2359 hrs*. This will allow us enough time to have them printed
> for those at the AGM. The manifestos must contain the following:
>
> 1. Your name
> 2. The position you are running for
> 3. Your picture
>
> There will be no restrictions on page length. As a guide, your manifesto
> is a personal statement that explains why you are will be suitable for the
> position. However, *submission of a manifesto does not guarantee a
> nomination*, and a nomination will still be required as explained above.
>
> More information to come! Good luck to all interested candidates and see
> you all at AGM!
>
> Regards,
> The 31st Exco
> ------------------------------
> 3. ICSS Contemporary Dance Classes
>
> And... we're back again! If you've enjoyed dancing for Major Event this
> year, or were inspired by the beautiful dancers when you saw them
> performing on stage, or just want to get some exercise and sweat it all
> out, do consider joining the ICSS contemporary dance classes! Classes will
> involve basic warm-up techniques (which should help to make you lose a bit
> of weight) as well as a short choreography. Don't worry if you are an
> absolute beginner - most of the rest are too! It is always good to try
> something new :D
>
> Contemporary dance classes will take place on *Monday evenings, from
> 7-10pm* (may end earlier). The upcoming classes are likely to be held on

 2. Annual General Meeting 2014
Hi everyone!
Comprising the Annual Report from the 31st Exco, and of course, the
elections for the 32nd Exco, this meeting is crucial to the future of ICSS
as we decide who will take on the roles of leadership and responsibility
within the society for the next year-long term.
All members are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting! *The agenda can
be found** here
<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/49hgj-1ez6m-2ccllzg8fu?u=http%3A%2F%2Ffiles.…>*.
If there are any additional matter you wish to discuss at the meeting,
please email Siming at secretary(a)ic-singsoc.net by Friday, 28th February so
that it can be added into the agenda.
The meeting details are as follows:
*Date: *5th March (Wednesday)
*Time: *12:30pm onwards
*Venue: *Physics LT2
* Rough Programme: *Registration and lunch will commence at 12:30pm,
followed by the presentation and elections. Dinner will be at 6:30pm, and
elections will continue until all positions are filled.
Note that *only ICSS members can attend* this meeting, and that free *lunch
and dinner will be provided* for those who register with us online. *Sign
up **here
<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/49hgj-1ez6m-2ccllzg8fu?u=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.…>
by Monday, 3rd March* to secure your meals!
   8. Position that you wish the nominee to run for
Once the nomination has been received by us, we will contact the nominee to
get his/her agreement, before *publishing the names of both the nominator
and the nominee* onto our website. Note that there *can be nominations at
the elections* itself, similarly requiring at least 2 seconders.
*To Run for Office*
Firstly, if you wish to find out more about the various Exco positions, you
may approach any of the current Exco for more information. Alternatively,
you can refer to our
constitution<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/49hgj-1ez6m-2ccllzg8fu?u=http%3A%2F%2Fe.grou…>
As a guide, your manifesto is
a personal statement that explains why you are will be suitable for the
position. However, *submission of a manifesto does not guarantee a
nomination*, and a nomination will still be required as explained above.
More information to come! Good luck to all interested candidates and see
you all at AGM!
Regards,
The 31st Exco

***2) Emcee Applications**

any of the main cast.

The window will remain open until **29th January 2014**. To

auditioning (may be as a pair or in a group of three, or fly
solo), and your contact number(s) and email(s). Following which,
you will receive more information about the remaining procedures
from then on. Do take note that you will need to be present for
the rehearsal on 15/2, if possible both rehearsals on 12/2 and
19/2, and of course the show itself, on 22/2.

I thank you in advance for your enthusiastic applications for
this exciting role, and look forward to working with you!

***3) Chinese New Year Carnival**
*
Every Chinese New Year, there will be a Chinese New Year Carnival
at UCL Main Quad, along Gower Street. Many stalls will be set up
by your peers and your school alumnus associations. (do go and
soak in the CNY atmosphere!)

This year, we will also be setting up a stall at the carnival, as
part of our publicity efforts for our Kopi Affair. We will be
selling **Kaya and Toast** (what else!), and **Teh Tarik.**

We are looking for any volunteers who are interested to join us
to be a kopi uncle/auntie for a day. Details are as follows:

**Date:** 1st February 2014
**Time:** 10am to 4pm
**Venue:** UCL Main Quad

If you'd like to join us for a day of fun, and also to help out
for a good cause (all proceeds go to charity), do drop me an
email
at https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/h/8933swl57fxk/?&v=b&cs=wh&to=majorevent@i….
No prerequisite skill sets are required!

                         Updates
Hello everyone!
It's been a hectic term and I think we are all glad to have finally
survived the autumn term! Come this Christmas break, some of us will be
looking forward excitedly to the ski trip, some of us will be going for our
own holidays while some of us will spend the time back with friends and
family in Singapore (: Whatever it is, here's wishing everyone a good
well-deserved break!
We hope that those of you who attended the *ICSS Christmas Party* had fun
playing games, eating all the good food and participating in the gift
exchange! Christmas is a special holiday, and this season of giving is best
spent with friends (: But of course, another important holiday not to be
forgotten is - *Chinese New Year*! In the new year of 2014, CNY is going to
fall on Friday, 31 January. ICSS is planning a special reunion dinner on
Friday, 24 January - specially for you! I believe that for most of us, CNY
is a most special holiday that we would love to spend with our family back
home. In this city far far away from Singapore, we can seek comfort in
celebrating this special occasion with our friends in ICSS. Look on for
more details!
Last but not least, do look out from a message from the UKSSC to join
their *mailing
list*. It'll be good to get regular updates on events organised by the
various schools!
And once again, have a good break everyone, and Merry Christmas! :D

 1. Autumn Term Round Up
Hello friends!
Over the past term, ICSS had been busy with different events, and here's a
overview of what's been done!
As the new term kicked in, we helped our freshers settle in to life in
London, with various aspects of the *freshers' package* such as the hall
walkabout. The *Hyde Park picnic* then served as a welcome event for all
the get together and enjoy some sun while playing sports! Following that we
had the *Hall Fiesta *where the chefs of different halls whipped up
fantastic dishes, and we burned away all these calories during the *Nottingham
Winter Games* :D
We also had a *shopping trip to Portsmouth*, and the autumn trip to
*Stratford-Upon-Avon*. The *Billy Elliot musical* outing was also a great
success, and part of these had already been covered during our *Ordinary
General Meeting (OGM)*. Lastly, we had the *ICSS Christmas Party*, and
coming straight right up (later today!) is the *ski trip*, which many of us
are looking forward to! And of course, not forgetting all the preparatory
work done for *Major Event*!
So yes, it's been a busy term, but we hope you had fun at all the various
events! The 31st Exco would like to extend our deepest gratitude to *YOU*,
our beloved members, for your continual support in all these events! As
much fun as we had in planning all these, it would not have been possible
without you (: So thank you so much! Coming up in spring term are more
exciting events!
To give you a glimpse of what's coming up:
*Quidam Circus Outing* - those of you who have signed up should already
have received the confirmation email from Yu Zheng!
*Spring Trip* - We have yet to decide where to go, if you have any ideas,
please tell any of our Events Officers!
*CNY Reunion Dinner* - As mentioned in this issue of Kaya and Toast, keep
24 January free!
*Major Event* - 22 Feb 2013 (222!), be there or be square :D
Have a good winter break everyone, enjoy wherever you are travelling to,
and see you again in January! :D
 ------------------------------
 2. ICSS Christmas Party
Ho ho ho, once again, Merry Christmas to all!
Last Saturday, ICSS held the annual Christmas Party which saw good food,
games and gifts! A great thank you to all who came down, and we hope you
had fun!
Special thanks to the group of people who sang festive Christmas carols to
hype up the mood! And to all who put in effort to prepare food/drinks, and
congratulations to our newly crowned Iron Chef - Klaxton and Aaron!
The games and gift exchange at the end sure ended the event on a high, and
we hope to see you all again next year!
 ------------------------------
 3. CNY Reunion Dinner
”冬天已到尽头,真是好的消息,温暖的春风,就要吹醒大地“
It's our favourite time of the year again - *Chinese New Year*!
I don't know about you - but to me, Chinese New Year is definitely a joyous
occasion I'd love to celebrate with my beloved friends and family (: It's a
get-together event where everyone meets up and welcomes the new year
together! Even though we can't hope to be back in Singapore to be with our
family, but we can definitely celebrate together as one ICSS family (:
Though we do not promise fat red packets, we promise to you a heartwarming
night of good food, fun and games! To let you have a glimpse of what you're
in for:
- A *10-course meal* including starter and dessert
- *Lucky draw* with attractive prizes to be won!
- *Karaoke* with English and Chinese pop songs (and CNY songs)
- And of course, what's a reunion dinner without *yu sheng*?
The menu includes mouth-watering dishes such as steamed sea bass, stir
fried prawn, roasted chicken, sea spicy aubergine and many more! There is
also a non-pork, and a vegetarian menu.
Details of the dinner are as follows:
*Date*: 24 January 2014, Friday
*Time:* 7pm - 10pm
*Venue:* New World Restaurant (3 mins walk from Leicester Square tube)
Each table holds 10 persons, so start gathering your group of friends and
subsequently sign up together as groups of 10 (sign-ups will open sometime
later)! And do mark this date down in your calendar now!
It would be really great to celebrate CNY together, far away as we are from
home (: See you there!
Your friendly Events Officer,
Yu Zheng
