Dear all,
It is with a heavy heart that I announce to you the resignation of Wu
Jiaxi, Treasurer of the 33rd ICSS Executive Committee.

After reading the letter, I hope that everyone can better understand the
predicament Jiaxi is in, and the reasons for her absence in most
activities.
When Jiaxi first made known to us about her thoughts of resignation during
summer, we tried our best to alleviate her workload such that she can focus
on catching up with her studies. However, even then, she still finds it
difficult to juggle her academics and Exco commitments. This eventually led
to her final decision to resign, despite much persuasion for her to stay.
It is a decision that we have to accept and respect.
In her absence since post-UKBound, I have taken over her treasurer duties
and made sure that the Singapore account is accurate and up-to-date. Jiaxi
had tried her best to help me verify the accounts, which I am very grateful
for. At the moment, I handle all the UK accounts, with constant vetting by
my Exco members to ensure that there are no errors.
However, moving forward, our Exco had unanimously decided that it is
unfeasible for me to handle both the President and Treasurer’s duties,
especially with the upcoming Major Event. Thus, it would be best for
someone to fill the vacant position of Treasurer.
Pursuant to Section 4 Article 19 of our constitution:

*1. Any member of the Committee who wishes to resign shall submit an
official letter to the Committee and the letter shall be made public.*
*2. A by-election of the vacated post shall be conducted pursuant to
article 13(1) of this Constitution.*
We will be holding an *Ordinary General Meeting (OGM), *followed by an
*Extraordinary
General Meeting (EGM) *to conduct a by-election. The details of the
meeting, as well as the by-election procedure will be released in a
separate email once they are confirmed.
For the EGM, please note that in order to gain voting rights, you will need
to be a *full member*, thus I sincerely appeal to you to *purchase
membership* if you have not already done so, in order to participate in the
OGM as well as this important by-elections. As with all general meetings,
it can only proceed when a minimum quorum is reached, thus your support is
of utmost importance.
To all members, I would like to appeal to you to seriously consider the
role of Treasurer. This is a critical role in deciding the success of our
future events. The Treasurer will ensure that the society’s financial
account is in order and assist in gathering sponsorships necessary to run
the society’s events. He or she will be in the best position to advise on
the scale of our events and the amount of subsidies to provide to our
members, as well as participate in other important decisions.
Handling the funds from members and sponsors is a great responsibility, and
one may even find it unrewarding to do so much work behind the scenes.
However, at the end of the exco journey, you will hopefully realise that
your efforts are truly meaningful – experiencing the sense of achievement
in seeing events materialise from scratch, bringing laughter and smiles to
people’s lives, and making the Singapore Society a little closer to being
the home away from home we all want it to be.

Hey everyone!
Well now that it's back to the grind, hope that everyone still has their
spirits up, seeing that it's only the beginning of the year, and there are
lots to be excited about coming your way!
The *Hyde Park Picnic* recently concluded last weekend, drawing the
Freshers Package to a close. Of course, we trust that the new friendships
that the freshers have forged over the past few months in Singsoc will last
a long time, and that all the OGs will continue to meet up!
The Freshers Package was definitely not the end of the Singsoc calendar,
and we have many more events lined up for the entire society! *Nottingham
Winter Games* will be happening on *14 Nov 2015 (Sat)* at the *University
of Nottingham *(duh), and it will be an excellent opportunity to represent

Thank you everyone who came down to Hyde Park Picnic on Saturday! Blessed
with good weather (no rain), it was a great day where seniors and freshers
come together to mingle, play games and eat. Hope everyone had fun in this
relaxed gathering.
As a conclusion to the Fresher’s Package, we hope that all freshers enjoyed
what ICSS had planned for you since the pre-departure talk. This is just
the beginning of the many other exciting events so stay tuned and look out

2. Nottingham Winter Games
Gear up for another exciting opportunity to represent *TEAM IMPERIAL* and
pit your skills against students from other UK universities. This year’s
Nottingham Winter Games is guaranteed to be a day of fun, laughter and
friendly competition.
Those who wish to just visit and tour Nottingham are also welcomed to join
us but do *REGISTER* as well! Nottingham Singapore Society will be
providing some guided tours around the area.

Freshers’ Fair is coming soon, and of course the most important thing YOU

2. Hall Walkabout
Hi Freshers! Hope you are settling in well in your respective halls!
On the 3rd of October, with the nice cloudy weather (and a little sun),
most of you were up and about walking the area around your halls and
purchasing your necessities, with some tips from our lovely seniors!
We hope you have enjoyed yourself as much as we did doing all that shopping
and (non-studies) prep for the upcoming year ahead!
The hall walkabouts would not have been possible without all the seniors
who came forth and volunteered their time to bring the freshers (and
parents) around and share personal tips with them! A huge thank you to the
hall seniors!
To finish off the Fresher's Package, we will have our *Hyde Park Picnic* on *17
October 2015 (Sat)*! Do keep that day free and we look forward to seeing
you there at Hyde Park!

Hellu Lovely Friends!
A BIG WARM (well actually it's chilly) WELCOME to everyone! ^^ To my peers
and seniors, welcome back! And to our dear freshers, welcome to your second
home :)
I have MAJOR IMPORTANT NEWS for one and all!
Firstly, Major Event sign ups are still open! For freshers who have yet to
choose a team, come join us - many already have! ^^ And for seniors, it's
also not too late to join in the fun and crazy journey once again! In fact,
it's never too late to join Major Event! :)
I would like to do a special shout out to everyone to give the Cast Team a
try too. :) We have a really fun script written by Wei Lun from Chemistry,
and you will definitely enjoy bringing to life the various characters in
the play. Don't worry about experience, I didn't have any when I signed up
last year too, but I enjoyed myself anyway and found myself acting a
character I was most comfortable with. There will definitely be a place for
you to shine on stage. You don't get this chance everyday ;)
And why stop there! We have space for more to join Dance, Chorale, Music,
Props, Emcees, Lights and Sounds, Publicity and Make-up! Be a part of the
Biggest Event in Singsoc's Calendar; an epic showcase of Singapore to the
London community.

Second piece of MAJOR IMPORTANT NEWS!
Tryouts are just around the corner! It'll be a super chill and candid
session where we'll get to know you more personally and find out what
hidden talents you have to offer :) For those who have signed up, we will
personally contact you through either your emails or contact number to
schedule a date for your tryouts, if you even need a tryout at all!
There will be two dates to choose from for tryouts: 13 October
2015 (Tuesday) or 15 October 2015 (Thursday).
This does not apply to the Music Team, Shi Jia would have already contacted
you about your dates. :)

This will be the last issue for this summer. Before you know it, school
will begin! I'm sure all the freshers are excited to embark on their new

Hello everyone!
We successfully concluded UKBound 2015 - Wish on 12 September where we
crowned Mr Imperial - Tin Jing Jie as UKBound King and Ms UCL - Fiona Heung
as UKBound Queen! It was a hectic and tiring 3 months but we were glad that
the entire event went smoothly and we hoped that everyone had a blast!
UKBound wouldn't have been possible without many of our ICSS members who
put in their time and effort during the trainings and on the actual day. On
behalf of the 33rd ExCo, I would like to sincerely express our gratitude
and appreciation to those who helped out, in particular: Ben Yong,
Bryan, Chloe, Hong Rui, Leon, Piramol, Sameer, Shayna, Yi Sheng, Zeguang.
We would also like to thank our very own Mr Imperial - Tin Jing Jie and Ms
Imperial - Rachel Ee for being so sporting and representing us in this
pageant - you guys were awesome! Lastly, thank you to everyone who came
down to support us at UKBound 2015 and we look forward to seeing you guys

1. *Airport Pickup* - ICSS will be arranging for buses to pick up those of
you arriving on the morning of *3rd October 2015 (Saturday)* at
*London Heathrow* and fetch you guys straight to your hall! It should cost
about £10-15 per pax (depending on how many people we have!)
2. *Hall Walkabout* - On the very afternoon of your arrival on *3rd October
2015 (Saturday) *at *1pm*, your seniors will be bringing you guys around
your halls to familiarise you with important amenities in the area as well
as get some important items needed for your first few days! Do indicate in
the form if you are interested - your parents are welcome too, and this
service is completely free!
*For seniors who are interested in bringing the freshers out for Hall
Walkabout, do inform Paxton of your interest at sportsofficer(a)ic-singsoc.net

3. *Duvet Orders* - Both single and double duvets are available at *SGD 20*
each! Do place your orders through the form if you are interested! Take
note, duvet orders are open to both seniors and freshers! If you have
previously made an order, you can still indicate in the form above to
confirm!
4. *OG Walkabout* - While this is not reflected in the form above, your OG
will be going for a walkabout on *10th October 2015 (Saturday)*! Do
save that date on your calendar!
5. *Hyde Park Picnic* - To finish off the Fresher's Package, we will be
having a morning of food, games and lots of fun at Hyde Park! This will
happen on *17th October 2015 (Saturday)*, so keep that day free too!

3. Major Event 2016
Hello everyone!!! :)
I hope your summer break is going well ^^ Sojourn has just ended, but sign
ups for Major Event 2016 are open once again!
To my dear freshers, I know many of you have signed up for various teams
way back at the Pre-Departure Talk. For those who haven't, now is the
chance! Also, if some of you have spoken to your seniors and want to join
new teams on top of your current ones, go ahead !! ^^
I would particularly like to invite everyone to join the Cast team! Having
watched all your skits from Sojourn, I am confident to say that we're
brimming with hilariously charismatic actors and actresses! No experience
is needed, and it'll be a once in a lifetime experience to take on a
different persona un university, because like I said, EVERYONE has the
potential to be someone they're not ;)
To my dear peers and seniors, many of you have participated in Major Event
in one way or another over the years. As a fresher last year, my experience
was definitely made much more enjoyable by seniors who participated and
became my Big Korkors and Jiejies! Come join us again as we make this
year's stage play as enjoyable as before!

4. Ski Trip
Hey everyone!
ICSS will be organising its annual ski trip in France for a week, with lots
of fun, snow, skiing and eating! Apart from ICSS members, we are also
inviting friends from all schools in the UK, because we want it to be a
week of fun for Singaporeans and to give everyone the opportunity to meet
students from other UK schools.
Transport is provided via bus and buffet style meals are catered so be
prepared to eat all you can. With 7 days of skiing or snowboarding and
optional lessons for the uninitiated, there's a place for everyone on the
slopes of the UCPA Les Arcs, the resort we will be staying at!
Date: *18 - 28 December 2015*

UKBound 2015 is coming soon and early bird tickets have already been sold
out! As the only pageant event organised for Singapore students heading to
the UK for their tertiary studies, UKBound attracted over 650 people last
year from more than 20 UK schools.
Support our very own Mr and Ms Imperial as well as watch contestants from
every school compete amongst themselves in a battle of wit and beauty. I
guarantee that it will be a night of laughter and entertainment and it's
definitely not a night to be missed!
For those who are interested to party in Zouk after the pageant, fret not
as our ticket for UKBound entitles you one free entry into Zouk!

2. Freshers Package
Hey Freshers,
Congrats on getting your hall allocations! Hope you are pleased with them!
Anyways, ICSS has a whole host of events prepared for you from the Arrivals
Weekend onwards! The sign up form for these events is available HERE

You can sign up for the following:
1. *Airport Pickup* - ICSS will be arranging for buses to pick up those of
you arriving on the morning of *3rd October 2015 (Saturday)* at
*London Heathrow* and fetch you guys straight to your hall! It should cost
about £10-15 per pax (depending on how many people we have!)
2. *Hall Walkabout* - On the very afternoon of your arrival on *3rd October
2015 (Saturday) *at *1pm*, your seniors will be bringing you guys around
your halls to familiarise you with important amenities in the area as well
as get some important items needed for your first few days! Do indicate in
the form if you are interested - your parents are welcome too, and this
service is completely free!
*For seniors who are interested in bringing the freshers out for Hall
Walkabout, do inform Paxton of your interest at sportsofficer(a)ic-singsoc.net

3. *Duvet Orders* - Both single and double duvets are available at *SGD 20*
each! Do place your orders through the form if you are interested! Take
note, duvet orders are open to both seniors and freshers! If you have
previously made an order, you can still indicate in the form above to
confirm!
4. *OG Walkabout* - While this is not reflected in the form above, your OG
will be going for a walkabout on *10th October 2015 (Saturday)*! Do
save that date on your calendar!
5. *Hyde Park Picnic* - To finish off the Fresher's Package, we will be
having a morning of food, games and lots of fun at Hyde Park! This will
happen on *17th October 2015 (Saturday)*, so keep that day free too!

3. Major Event 2016
Hello everyone!!! :)
I hope your summer break is going well ^^ Sojourn has just ended, but sign
ups for Major Event 2016 are open once again!
To my dear freshers, I know many of you have signed up for various teams
way back at the Pre-Departure Talk. For those who haven't, now is the
chance! Also, if some of you have spoken to your seniors and want to join
new teams on top of your current ones, go ahead !! ^^
I would particularly like to invite everyone to join the Cast team! Having
watched all your skits from Sojourn, I am confident to say that we're
brimming with hilariously charismatic actors and actresses! No experience
is needed, and it'll be a once in a lifetime experience to take on a
different persona un university, because like I said, EVERYONE has the
potential to be someone they're not ;)
To my dear peers and seniors, many of you have participated in Major Event
in one way or another over the years. As a fresher last year, my experience
was definitely made much more enjoyable by seniors who participated and
became my Big Korkors and Jiejies! Come join us again as we make this
year's stage play as enjoyable as before!

4. Ski Trip
Hey everyone!
ICSS will be organising its annual ski trip in France for a week, with lots
of fun, snow, skiing and eating! Apart from ICSS members, we are also
inviting friends from all schools in the UK, because we want it to be a
week of fun for Singaporeans and to give everyone the opportunity to meet
students from other UK schools.
Transport is provided via bus and buffet style meals are catered so be
prepared to eat all you can. With 7 days of skiing or snowboarding and
optional lessons for the uninitiated, there's a place for everyone on the
slopes of the UCPA Les Arcs, the resort we will be staying at!
Date: *18 - 28 December 2015*
Price: *£549 (+£5 for non-ICSS members)*

Hey everyone!
This is an extremely significant moment, because it is the first issue that
the new batch of freshers will be receiving! This marks the start of their
lives in ICSS, so let's warmly welcome all of them into the ICSS family!
To the freshers, The Kaya & Toast Times is our society's newsletter which
will provide important information on everything that ICSS has to offer! We
hope that this will help you stay updated with all the happenings in ICSS,
and we strongly encourage you to immerse yourself in the events and
activities that we will be planning for you!
There are lots of events that are happening during this period, as well as
many offerings from ICSS, so do spend some time reading through this bumper
issue! To make things easier, here is a brief summary of what's going on:
The last week has been an exciting one, with *Sojourn* and *Warwick Summer
Games* recently concluding. We would like to thank Team Sojourn for all
their hard work during Sojourn, and Team Imperial for fighting hard at WSG!

Gao Ming 2. Warwick Summer Games
A very big thank you to everyone who came down yesterday to participate in
Warwick Summer Games 2015, or to support your friends who were playing.
Even though we did not emerge victorious in the games, we fought hard and
did our best. What's more important are the fun we had playing and the
friendships we made through the games!
For those who missed out on all the excitement and still wish to be part of
it, feel free to join the sports interest groups' Facebook groups and drop
by for their training sessions.

Ever worried about having to replace your laptop if you lose it while
travelling? Or paying for an air ticket home due to medical emergencies in
your family? Or how about that hospital bill due to an accidental injury
sustained during our exciting annual ski trip?
ICSS is offering an overseas insurance package from AIG at a discount of
10% and it is definitely one that will alleviate these worries for you.
Here's what you should do if you are interested in the AIG overseas
insurance package:
*For those applying for the AIG Insurance package for the first time:*
Fill in the AIG Student Assist form, and submit the scanned copy to our

*For those who signed up last year and are interested to recontract: *

5. Alumni Event
Hi all,
ICAAS (Imperial College Alumni Association of Singapore) has extended their
invitation to us to join them for a BBQ dinner! The aim of the event is to
bring the future, current and past members of ICSS together in a mingle
session and facilitate the sharing of schooling and work experiences
amongst each other.
Here are the details of the Alumni Event:

Dear all,
Thanks for your support for the Imperial TEES!
Your orders have been processed, and you should be receiving a confirmation
email some time this week or the next, listing the collection and the
payment details!
For those of you who indicated your collection in Singapore, the shirts are
slated to be done in early September, and we will drop you an email then to
tell you where you will be able to collect it from us!
For those of you who indicated your collection in London, it might take

I hope you all are excited for our nation's 50th birthday this coming
weekend, with all the interesting events going on during the jubilee
weekend! Also, Sojourn will be happening in just 12 days so get ready for
the SOJOURN HYPEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!
The new and improved *Black and White Imperial Tees* that were sold last
year are BACK! As we will be producing the shirts in Singapore, the
material and quality will be similar to that of the past Sojourn camp tees.
The Tees will be issued in Singapore, but we will be able to issue a
limited amount back in London. They are priced at *$8 *if bought in
Singapore, but *£4* if bought in London.
We have limited amounts of the Tees, so orders will be on a first come

Warwick Summer Games (WSG) is back and it is time to show the other
universities what we are made of! It will be an exciting sporting event
where Singapore students from various UK schools battle it out, and we need

UKBound 2015 is finally here! As the only pageant event organised for
Singapore students heading to the UK for their tertiary studies, UKBound
attracted over 650 people last year from more than 20 UK schools.
Support your juniors representing ICSS as well as watch contestants from
every school compete amongst themselves in a battle of wit and beauty. I
guarantee that it will be a night of laughter and entertainment and it's
definitely not a night to be missed!
For those who are interested to party in Zouk after the pageant, fret not

Hey everyone!
I hope that summer has been going well for you, no matter if you're doing a
summer internship, busy catching up with friends, travelling the world, or
just bumming around at home!
Well, don't forget to make time for Singsoc too, because we have plenty of
events planned this summer to make your break even more fun and exciting!
First, we will be conducting the first *dry run* for *Sojourn* on *25th
July 2015 (Sat)*, *10 am - 5 pm* at *Siloso Beach*, so those in Team
Sojourn, please take note!
Next, *Warwick Summer Games* is round the corner, so we hope you will
join *Team
Imperial* and make our school proud! It will be on *22nd Aug 2015 (Sat)*, *9

Warwick Summer Games (WSG) is back and it is time to show the other
universities what we are made of! It will be an exciting sporting event
where Singapore students from various UK schools battle it out, and we need
YOU to be part of *TEAM IMPERIAL*.
The details of WSG 2015 are as follows:

Hello Team Sojourn!
Here is a quick reminder that we'll be having our first dry run this

Hey everyone!
How has summer been for you? If you're back in Singapore already, I hope
you have been having fun meeting up and catching up with your friends and
family. For those still travelling or working or studying overseas, have
fun with your endeavours!

Hello everyone!
We concluded the Pre-Departure Talk for the freshers yesterday, and it was
an extremely fruitful session for freshers and parents alike, as freshers
gained a lot of advice from the seniors, while parents were assured by all
the things that ICSS is doing for their children.
I would like to say a big thank you to all the seniors who came down
yesterday to interact with the juniors, for without you guys the
Pre-Departure Talk would not have served its purpose at all! We also hope
you enjoyed the food while talking to the juniors... (:
Special thanks goes out to the Academic Reps, who helped to gather the
freshers, give them advice and collect their forms - thank you so much for
your help!! :D

2. Evelyn Gardens Memory Project
Hi friends!
We are still opening submissions for the Evelyn Gardens memory project!
The Evelyn Gardens accommodation cluster will be shutting down after this
summer break, and I believe many of us, past and present residents and
non-residents, have had great times in the halls here as well as in the
surrounding area. Evelyn Gardens has definitely played an important role in
our first year at Imperial at least, with the many hall activities
organised by the wardening team, and chilling in the common rooms of the
various halls around.
Therefore, we would like to ask you to take some time off, reminiscence
about your first year memories of Evelyn Gardens and share them with us,
regardless of which batch you were from (even if you have already graduated
from Imperial!).
These will go into next year's edition of Retrospect as the halls in Evelyn
Gardens had definitely played a defining role for many of us in ICSS, and I
am sure we have many great memories to share.

3. Team Sojourn Dry Runs
Hello Team Sojourn!
I hope you've been having an enjoyable summer break after the hustle and
bustle of the school term! Some of you may have met the freshers during
PDT, and we are just 6 weeks away from seeing them in Sojourn 2015: Collide!
We'll be having our *first dry run* on *25th July 2015 (Sat)* at *1000
hours *at *Siloso Beach*, Sentosa! The aim of this first dry run is to try
out all the games we have planned, as well as everyone in Team Sojourn to
get to know each other! We will be releasing more details to OGHs and
Committee ICs in due course, and they will contact you closer to the dry
run date.

Congratulations to everyone for finally finishing the academic year!

Pre-Departure Talk
Hello everyone!
If you recall, the first event that Singsoc organised for you when you were
a wide-eyed fresher was the *Pre-Departure Talk*. This year will be no
different as we kickstart the summer with this talk, where we will welcome
the new batch of freshers and disseminate important information about
coming to Imperial.
There will also be a *course mingling session* after the talk, where
freshers and seniors from the same course will get to interact with each
other. This will be a chance for freshers to ask questions, and for seniors
to find out who your juniors are, as well as give them advice on tackling
life in Imperial. In addition, *afternoon tea* will be provided, so we
really hope you can come along!
For *academic reps*, it would be ideal if you could come, or ask someone
else from your course to replace you if you can't make it, so that each
course has at least one representative from the senior batch. Also, for *secret
freshers* who want to blend in right from the start, you are also welcome
to come along, but don't forget to be in your role right from the start!
(Of course, if you see any of the secret freshers around on the day, don't
acknowledge them!)

2. ICSS Card Design Competition
Hello everyone!
For those looking to fill your time post-exams, why not consider creating a
design for our *ICSS Members' Card*? Yes, we're having the competition
again this year, and the winner will get free membership for 2015-2016, as
well as the glory of seeing your design published! All entries are welcome,
but please make sure you meet these criteria:
1) The card should contain the "Imperial College Singapore Society" logo
and the "Imperial College Union" logo
2) Card Size: size of your credit/ debit card i.e. 8.6cm X 5.5cm
Kindly send your card design to secretary(a)ic-singsoc.net. The deadline for
the card design submission is *30th June 2015*, and online voting on
Facebook will be launched afterwards.
