3. ICSS Paintball Day this Sunday! (5 Dec)
ICSS is holding the paintballing session this Sunday at Delta Force
paintball and there are still a few places available on both teams! Below
are the event details,
*Date:* 5th December, Sunday
*From:* 9am to 4pm, whole day event. Meeting at South Kensington Tube
station at 7am. Should return to London before 6pm.
*Where:* Delta Force Paintball Centre (Surrey (Guildford and Effingham)
Paintball Branch), London M25 J10 , KT11 1NL
*Cost:* approximately £20-25 for full day event, 300-400 paintballs each
person, does not include lunch, light refreshments provided (like some
drinks & tea/coffee). You can buy more paintballs on that day, if you like.
Transport: We'll head off together in the morning as a group. Will take
about 1hr+ to get there by tube+rail. The total transport cost should be
around £4.65 per person including return (for British Rail group ticket).
*Equipment:* All equipment will be provided. Wear loose comfortable clothing
underneath the paintball suit that's provided. Also, I've been told that the
ground is VERY muddy, so I strongly advise you guys to wear light boots or
at least trainers that you don't mind getting 'muddified'. Don't worry too
much about the cold, the gear should keep you warm.
All in all, this should be a great day of paintballing fun with your Singsoc
friends, all for under £30! If you are keen to join, since there are some
spaces left, do send me an e-mail at icss.events(a)gmail.com ASAP! You can
also invite your friends from outside Imperial/ICSS if you like!
All those who have confirmed (shown below) must turn up, or they would have
to pay the £5 reservation fee, as I have already booked the venue for the
whole day private paintballing event! Any questions, feel free to shoot them
at me!

2. ICSS Paintball Day - updated with more details!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Attention!
ICSS Paintball day is here, and below are the (almost) finalized
details for the event!
Theme: ICSS Paintball day; JUNIORS VS SENIORS i.e. Fresh fighters
vs the Experienced marines.
When: 5th December, Sunday
Where: Delta Force Paintball Arena (within London!)
How many: 40-50 ICSS 'garang' warriors
Cost: Under £20-25 per person! (covers entry into paintball
ground, **300 paintballs each**, does not include food &
transport)
Short description: Gear up 'coz it's time for some war with
paintballs! ICSS is looking to invade Delta Force, London's best
rated paintballing ground, on the 5th of December, Sunday. Be
prepared for a **whole day** of paintballing fun, as the
professional services from the Delta Force management will ensure
that we have a blast of a time paintballing. There will be
approximately 12 scenario games for us to play and the training,
safety and equipment hire will all be professionally taken care
of by the venue management. The realistic settings and elaborate
scenarios make it all a chance to have a great day of fun! Have a
look yourself at their website: http://www.paintballgames.co.uk/.
***FAQ***
**Can ICSS organize this another day?**
Unfortunately not, as majority of the people who have signed up
so far prefer to go on the 5th December, and we're keen to have
this society-level paintballing blast before the term ends! For
those wondering if ICSS will organize this again, there might be
one in spring term, so keep your eyes peeled.
**Why does it cost so much?**
It doesn't! Well, at least if you consider what you're getting in
return. A whole day of paintballing, if you're not going in a
large group (like ours!), would cost much more, simply because of
the entry fee (which is less than £5 now, instead of the usual
~£15). Also, the main cost for any paintballing event comes from
the purchase of the paintballs, and after doing some considerable
research, I found the deal mentioned above to be the most
value-for-money!
**Will transport be provided?**
Delta Force is located in London, and we will meet together as a
group on Sunday morning to go down to the venue together by tube.
So in short, no special transport arrangements.
**What about food?**
While currently, the management says that no food is provided
(for free), I will try to see if they can include refreshments at
least. However, I'll recommend packing lunch at the very least!
**Do I need any special gear/clothing?**
Nope! Everything will be provided for by the venue. Light boots
or good trainers are recommended though. Also, you might want to
wear a pair of gloves to keep your fingers warm (especially the
finger on the trigger!). Old, comfortable clothing is
recommended.
**Is it safe?**
YES. Full safety gear will be provided, and the venue guarantees
that serious injuries from the paintball pellets will not occur.
Lastly, if you have any questions, feel free to contact me at
icss.events(a)gmail.com! If you'll like to sign up for this event,
e-mail me today at icss.events(a)gmail.com!
SEE YOU THERE!
Cheers,
Sid

early January and all the way to the actual production day which
will be on 19th February 2011.
It will be a very fun experience that I am sure all of you will
definitely enjoy. Please contact me at icsssports(a)gmail.com.

It will be held on campus on Tuesday 23rd November 2010, from 12.15pm to 1.45pm. Given the room capacity, we will be operating on a sign up basis. If you are interested, please sign up ASAP on:

3. ICSS Paintball Day
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Yearning for some adrenaline-packed paintballing action? ICSS
brings you the paintballing day for everyone to release some
stress and have some fun! Not only that, but this is our chance
to go head-to-head with the seniors (or juniors, if you're a
senior) in the special juniors vs seniors match-up! The tentative
details are all listed below! E-mail your interest (and
preferences, in some cases) to **icss.events(a)gmail.com** today to
reserve a spot! Please also state whether you'll be playing on
the seniors' or juniors' side.
**When:** 5th December (Sunday) **or **11th December (Saturday)
<-- Please indicate if you can't make it for either one of the
dates
**Program:** **WHOLE DAY** event, lasting from 9am to 4pm.
Includes lunch, and refreshments. Qualified supervision and
training provided by facility staff. Playing about 10-15
different scenario games, with awards and recognition given to
exceptional players. Safety issues will be taken care of, and it
promises to be a day of great paintballing fun!
**Where:** Several possible venues, some inside London, others
out of London. If it's out of London, we will hire a coach to
bring you guys there and back, but it will add to the cost (by
approximately 5 pounds, will confirm this again). The venues out
of London are bigger, outdoors and generally better for
paintballing fun.
**Cost:** 20 - 30 pounds per person, which should include about
300 paintballs. You can purchase more rounds on that day for
6-7pounds for extra 100 paintballs. The cost of this
event, considering the enormity of the event, is still well
worth the price (and definitely much cheaper than in Singapore,
where you pay $50++ for only 2 hour sessions).
These are some of the preliminary details, and I'm still trying
to get better deals for cheaper tickets. We can also choose to do
a half day paintballing event, which would end by lunchtime, but
I feel that it is not worth the money and definitely not as much
fun (alert: personal opinion! :P. Do let me know your
preference, but take note, that the event will take place based
on the majority preference.
Finally, if you have friends who are interested, do invite them.
The event is open to everyone, but Singsoc members are given
priority. There are a total of 40-50 slots available and we have
about 20-30 more slots available! So e-mail me today to reserve a
spot!
Cheers,
Sid

* Lion King (1st December) 22 tickets of face value 55 pounds -

stall seats, but are circle seats.
Both musicals will be sold at 25 pounds per ticket.
2) To buy the tickets, please email me at
shurenlin(a)hotmail.com?subject=ICSS%20Musical%20Outing.
3) Tickets will be sold on a member’s priority,

to email me will be sold the tickets. Non-members will be placed
in the reserved list.
4) In the event that not all tickets are sold to members one week
before the musical, we will allocate tickets to non-members on
the non-reserved list.
5) In the email, include your full name and state clearly the
musical tickets that you would like to buy.
6) One member is only entitled to one ticket per musical.
However, you can send a consolidated email to me containing the
purchases of more than one person as long as all the names are
clearly stated in the email.
7) I will advise you on the collection and payment method once
I've gotten the full list.
8) Do note that once you have been allocated a ticket, you may
not withdraw your intention to receive and pay for the ticket.
Any exchanges may be done on a personal level however.

Hi guys :)
This is Rachel from Warwick. As some of you may already know,
there are a couple of us from Warwick embarking on a humanitarian
project entitled C-africa, in Lusaka, Zambia for about 200-300
HIV-infected children. We will be setting up a library, doing up
the school and conducting educational day camps from the 8th to
the 22nd of December.
Together with the other half of the team from Singapore, we are
making concerted efforts to fundraise as much as possible to
support our logistical requirements for the trip. The objectives,
program and breakdown of fundraising are stipulated in the
prospectus, which can be found here
<http://www.ic-singsoc.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/c-africa-prospectus-20…>.
You can buy a t-shirt for a child for £8 and receive a
personalised thank you card from him/her in return.
Alternatively, you can choose to donate cash which will
contribute to their lives in different ways (please click here
for the donation form
<http://www.ic-singsoc.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/c-africa-donation-form…>).
We really hope to gain your support on this as it means very
much for us to be able to go over with as much money as possible
for the village school we are working with. Do fill up the
donation form if you're interested in donating and forward it to
me. You can also drop me an email if you want to find out more
about the project at rachellaiyanfen(a)gmail.com.
Thank you!

Christmas break. In order to get new ideas from the freshers, we
are now recruiting for freshers to form the organizing committee
for this event. Thus for those who are very enthusiastic about
the event, do sign up for it and make it a memorable one.
This karaoke event is called “Talk Cock Sing Song” and it
will be held in school. I will need freshers to assist me in
organizing it be giving me ideas about it and making it more
interesting. Do not worry about commitments as all it takes is a
few meetings to finalise the details. Any questions be feel free
to contact me.
To sign up, just email me at shurenlin(a)hotmail.com. I will
contact you shortly to give you more details.
Regards,
Shuren.

7. ICSS Stance on Piracy
-----------------------------------------------------------------
We refer to the previous post of Lightroom about participants
being able to acquire pirated copies. ICSS would like to retract
that statement and reiterate that our society in no manner
condones piracy, resorts to piracy or participates in the illegal
copy and distribution of any commercial non-public domain
product. We recommend that there are often free alternatives
available (e.g., freewares) and even for paid copies there are
often trial periods where the user may use the software or
product with varying degrees of restriction on the product's
features.

1. President's Message on ICSS Membership
-----------------------------------------------------------------
**If you have already purchased ICSS membership, you may wish to
skip the following message. **
Dear all,
I will like to bring your attention to the purchasing of our
Society membership. If you do not already know, our Society
membership comes at a mere cost of £5. As a member, you will be
entitled to many benefits and privileges. Just to give you a
flavour of some of the benefits:
* Entitlement to Members-only events (eg. Imperial Ski Trip)
* Priority in registration for events over non-members
* Subsidies for events (eg. Chinese New Year dinner, Bicester
Trip)
* Discount card to many popular restaurants and cafes
* Opportunity to vote and have a say at OGMs and AGMs
* And much more!
Hence, the sooner you sign up for membership, the faster you
will gain access to all these lovely benefits, all at a very
small cost!
If the above reason isn’t compelling enough for you, as a
paying member for the Society membership, you will be assisting
the entire Society in fulfilling a membership count quota
required by the Union. Once our numbers are met, we will be
awarded grants, bolstering the finances of the Society. This will
then lead to events becoming cheaper and better! Much effort has
been placed into every single event we organize. Being crippled
by finances will mean all the effort will go to waste. So do help
us to help you!
Signing up only requires a Debit/Credit card under your name,
and a few minutes of your time. Instructions are:
1. Go to http://www.imperialcollegeunion.org.
2. Go under 'Clubs & Societies' and find 'Singapore' under A-Z
clubs & societies list.
3. Click "Shop" on the tab at the left hand side.
4. Buy the membership for 5 pounds and we'll take care of the
rest!
To all those who have already signed up for membership, I will
like to say a big thank you! I warmly welcome you as a member of
the Imperial College Singapore Society. To the rest, please do
not deliberate any further and get your membership today!
Yours truly,
Wenjun

cooking session now and not miss out on a chance to win **our
inaugural ICSS Fiesta Food Photography competition!**
As promised, subsidies for food will be provided and this will
only be possible if you send in legitimate photos for the
photography competition. The prizes for the ICSS Fiesta will be
given out during our Ordinary General Meeting on 3 Nov 2010.
We wish you ALL THE BEST! :)
Seniors who require contact information with the Freshers who
have just shifted into your ex-hall can still email Yu Leng at
secretary(a)ic-singsoc.net for it.

5. ICSS Bicester Village Trip (6 Nov 2010) - 3 days left for priority booking
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Don't miss out on a fabulous shopping trip to Bicester Village
<http://www.bicestervillage.com/en_GB/> with your fellow
Singaporeans! Get some winter essentials to survive the cold or
discover some fashion gems at cheaper prices!
**When**: 6th November 2010 (Saturday)
**Cost**: £10 (Members)*, £12 (Non-Members)
**Seats Available**: Coach size up due to good response! Now,
only less than 20 seats available on coach!!
***Do note that anyone going with us will get hold of a special
10% discount VIP day pass which applies to most outlets in
Bicester Village!***
Seats will be confirmed on a first-come-first-serve basis.
ICSS members will get priority over the seats so if you’re not
an ICSS member yet, do sign up for membership on the Union
Website to get a priority place on the coach! Here is how you can
register:
1) ICSS members can continue to register from now by e-mailing
icss.events(a)gmail.com?subject=ICSS%20Bicester%20Village%20Trip.
Only ICSS members can book a place on the coach from now until
30th October (**only 3 days left!**). However, if you’re an
ICSS member and you would like to bring along a friend who’s
not from Imperial, you are allowed to book one extra seat for a
friend. However, that friend has to pay the non-member price of
£12.
2) After 30th October, registration will be open to non-members,
so if there happens to be any seats left on the coach, anyone can
email to the address above to book your seats. If the coach is
already full, I will put you on the reserve list and should
anyone back out, you might be able to go on this shopping trip!
If you have any questions, please feel free to direct them to
our Events Officer, Sid, at icss.events(a)gmail.com!
*The £10 cost that ICSS members pay is to cover the cost price
of hiring the coach.

8. Singsoc Photography Pals does Lightroom Update
-----------------------------------------------------------------
After some deliberation, we have decided to hold our Lightroom
session on this Saturday morning. For lightroom experts already,
what I am going to cover may be dastardly boring (because I am a
noob user myself), in which case I implore you to come and share
with all of us a trick or two :)
**Date**: 30th October 2010 (Saturday)
**Time**: 9 - 10.30 am
**Venue**: Sir Alexander Fleming Building (meet in the lobby)
Equipment: Some of the photos that you want editing, a laptop
(optional), a thumbdrive (to obtain a pirated copy for yourself.
Not confirmed, still looking for the files in this huge library
of mine)
**Please contact Jun Ying at
****liaisonsofficer(a)ic-singsoc.net**
<liaisonsofficer(a)ic-singsoc.net?subject=Singsoc%20Photography%20does%20Lightroom>**
if you are coming :)**
If you know any of your friends who want to be on this list,
just email me their email address (but forward them the current
email of course).
Photo tip of the day: Don't rely too much of the zoom on your
lens, you'll be surprised at how much difference simply getting
closer to the subject can make
