3. Warwick Summer Games 2011 (3 Sept 2011)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a call-out from our **Sports Officer, Yuxiang**:
Dear seniors,
If you think that the this summer is just a boring 3-month break
for you to “stone” through, and ICSS would only be focussing
on the freshers but have nothing in-store for you... then you are
very wrong!
We have not forgotten about you guys. And the first big event in
line for you to participate in would be the Warwick Summer Games.
Yes, it’s your chance to represent Imperial and fight for our
glory again!
WSG is taking place on **3 September 2011**, at **Hwa Chong
Institution**. The first programme starts at **9.30am** and is
projected to end by 7.00 pm.
We are glad to announce that we would be *fully subsidising* the
Games’ registration fees. We are already getting very
enthusiastic responses, with our main teams for the 5 sports
completely filled up! But fret not - we have decided to register
an additional team for each of the 5 sports. Do note that
vacancies are very limited, so if you are interested, please
contact the **respective Sports Reps before 15 Aug**!
**5-a-side Football – Justin: **justinlsb(a)hotmail.com
**Floorball - Yong Feng: **chinyf88(a)gmail.com
**Basketball - Qi Quan: **chroma_pro(a)hotmail.com
**Netball – Christine: **christinehlk(a)gmail.com
**Touch Rug - Jin Yi: **jin.yi.low(a)gmail.com** or Yun Yi:
**yun_ng_yi(a)hotmail.com
If all else fails, contact me at sportsofficer(a)ic-singsoc.net
So dust off trainers and gear up for WSG now! For those who are
not keen on participating in any of the sports, do also join us
at Hwa Chong, be it as a cheer-leader or spectator, for our first
major Imperial gathering since the end of last academic year.
Grab this chance to meet up with your peers, and also to interact
with the new freshers, in Singapore! :)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
4. ICSS Sports - Basketball Session (6 Aug 2011)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a message from our **Sports rep, Qiquan**:

session** this coming **Saturday, 6th August, 10am at Sengkang
CC**! It will be a great opportunity to loosen your joints (not

the display of your talents.

5. ICSS Sports - Touch Rugby Session (13 Aug 2011)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a message from our **Sports rep, Jin Yi**:
When was the last time you had a game of touch rugby or have
always wanted to put on your limited edition T90 soccer boots but
never got the chance to?
Well, this short 2 hours touch rugby session is organized just
for you!
**Date: 13th August, Saturday
Time: 1000 - 1200 h
Venue: West Coast Park**
*ALL NEW OR EXPERIENCED* touch rugby players are welcomed to join
us in this event, where you will get a feel of the game, get
together with your friends in Singapore or even have a quick
workout session after a long week of work or internships.
For those people new to the game, touch rugby was originally
'derived from rugby football in which players do not tackle in
the traditional, highly physical way, but instead touch their
opponents using their hands on any part of the body, clothing, or
the ball.' -wikipedia.
So don't worry too much about the physical aspect of the sport as
you won't be leaving the field with a broken nose but instead
with a smile on your face. (Just look at how much fun these kids
are having!)

7. Restoration Of Non-Voters' Names To Registers Of Electors & Registration Of Overseas Electors
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The Elections Department (ELD) of Singapore wishes to inform
overseas Singaporeans that restoration of names of non-voters to
the Registers of Electors and registration of overseas electors,
which were suspended during the 2011 General Election (GE), have
both been resumed.
**Non-Voter**
A non-voter is an eligible elector whose name was expunged from
the Registers of Electors for failing to vote in an election.
If you are a non-voter from the 2011 GE or an earlier election
and wish to vote in the upcoming Presidential Election (PE), we
advise you to apply to have your name restored to the Registers
of Electors as soon as possible by using ELD’s eServices
<http://www.elections.gov.sg/online.html>. This is because the PE
must be held not later than 31 August 2011, and restoration of
names of non-voters to the Registers of Electors will again be
suspended once the writ of election is issued. Overseas
Singaporeans whose names are restored to the Registers of
Electors will be eligible to vote in Singapore if they are back
in Singapore on polling day.
**Overseas Voting**
To qualify for registration as an overseas elector, an overseas
Singaporean must have his/her name in the Registers of Electors
and been back in Singapore for a total of 30 days during the
3-year period immediately before 1 Jan 2011. For those who wish
to vote at any of the 9 overseas polling stations in the upcoming
PE, we also advise that they apply to be registered as an
overseas elector early by using ELD’s eServices
<http://www.elections.gov.sg/online.html>. This is because
registration of overseas electors will similarly be suspended
once the writ for the PE is issued. A registered overseas elector
may vote in Singapore if he/she happens to be back in Singapore
on polling day.
If you were registered as an overseas elector prior to the 2011
GE but failed to vote in the GE, your registration as an overseas
elector would have been cancelled when your name was expunged
from the Registers of Electors. This means that if you wish to
vote overseas in the upcoming PE, you will have to apply for
restoration of your name to the Registers of Electors as well as
for registration as an overseas elector. This can be done
concurrently via ELD’s eServices
<http://www.elections.gov.sg/online.html>.
For more information, visit the Elections Department website
<http://www.elections.gov.sg/>. To contact ELD, call +65 6222
1808, fax to +65 6336 2006, or email elections(a)eld.gov.sg

2. Major Event 2011
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a message from our Major Event Officer, Yi Jing:
Yippee, exams are finally over for ALL! Hope that you will be/are
enjoying your holidays back in the scorching hot Singapore.
Before all the delicacy back home prevents me from working, I
would like to announce that planning for 2012 Major Event has
already started! Did you enjoy this year’s production, or have
many opinions but no room to voice?
Well, I am setting up a Major Event creative team involving
people from all fields, namely **acting, dance, music, publicity,
logistic** and **lighting**. Your role will be helping the
script writers in their initial stage of creation and design,
and establish specific roles that your individual teams would
play during Major Event. It might sound boring in black and
white, but I can ensure that you will enjoy the hair-pulling
creation process and feel a greater sense of achievement at the
end of it! *(Plus, you get to work with me!)*
I am fully aware that next year will be tough for all of us, but
what is life without challenges? 4 months of hard work will earn
you memories and friendship that would last a lifetime. So...
challenge accepted?
If you are interested in joining our Major Event production team,
or simply want to find out more, feel free to email me at
majorevent(a)ic-singsoc.net. I am really looking forward to your
reply. :)

Hello, I’m Felicia. I’m in my early 20s and a prospective

1. ICSS Iron Chef Imperial competition results
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Last Saturday, the Iron Chef Imperial competition was held at the
Senior's Farewell Party. Those who missed the taste of home must
surely have enjoyed trying out the sweet and sour pork, bak chor
mee, roasted chicken wings and kueh serimuka, while those of you
who were craving something sweet should have (and probably did!)
tried out the tiramisu, bread and butter pudding, blondies and
apple crumble.
It was a hard-fought contest, which saw many of the voters
scratching their heads as they tried to figure out which dish to
support. In the end, pursuant to Section 49, Sub-Section 7E,
Paragraph A of the Culinary Competition Act, the seniors have
declared that **Shi Bowen** is the Iron Chef, with his braised
pig trotters just edging out the competition in the number of
votes.

*Bowen, the proud winner of the inaugural ICSS Iron Chef Imperial
competition.*
Thanks goes out to all those who spent their valuable studying
time preparing food or helping out in the Senior's Farewell
Party; it was only through your individual support that made this
SFP such a success!
The Iron Chef Imperial competition will very soon feature a
second episode in our next potluck event. Working titles
currently include Durian Delight, Red Bean Repast and Sweet Corn
Celebration. Suggestions are warmly welcomed and should be
emailed to eventsofficers(a)ic-singsoc.net
<lifesucks(a)takedrugs.com>.
*Are you in it to win it?*

3. Places to let over summer
-----------------------------------------------------------------
**Here's a message from Caroline, a 5th year Medic student:**
Hi! I’ve got a room to let out over summer anytime from *10 Jul
– 24 Sep 2011* (period and duration of stay flexible). The flat
is at *56A Kenway Road (opposite Cromwell Hospital)*, located 3
min away from Earl’s Court tube station, 5 min from Big Sains
and 15 min from school.
As I will be leaving my belongings in my cupboard and wardrobe, I
will only be charging **£95/week** excluding internet and
electricity (compared to £128/wk excluding internet and
electricity I am currently paying). The bed, desk, chairs and
tabletops will be cleared. The room is moderately spacious
(enough space to accommodate your belongings), and you will be
glad to hear that the flat was newly refurbished, hence the nice
kitchen and toilet! Not to mention you’ll get to enjoy the
company of two very lovely, clean and considerate flatmates J.
Email me at cwh06(a)imperial.ac.uk if you are interested and feel
free to arrange a viewing.
**And another message from Huanghuan, a 3rd year Medic student:**

-----------------------------------------------------------------
A message from the Exco...
Brothers and sisters,
In the midst of our intense mugging sessions, we would just like
to say, **ALL THE BEST** for your upcoming exams!
Fly the Singapore flag high, do us proud, and try not to own the
rest too badly. ;)
*"Hold your ground, hold your ground! Sons of Gondor, of Rohan,
my brothers (and sisters)! I see in your eyes the same fear that
would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of
men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of
fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of woes and shattered
shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not
this day! This day we fight!"
- Aragorn*
Have faith, and here's looking forward to days of endless char
kway teow/ chwee kueh/ chicken rice (your favourite food here)
back in Singapore!
Much love,

3. ICSS Major Event 2012

How has your mugging been? While trying your best to find your
data sheet among the sea of paper, why don’t you take a break?
Have a kitkat and think about the fun and joy of the **Major
Event** next year!
Next year, we are planning to do a sub-event *in addition* to our
Major Event to generate publicity for ICSS as well as Major Event
itself. Something different, something more creative... Maybe
something like the agar-agar that our seniors did! If you have
any ideas such as constructing our Singapore island with Lego
bricks, breaking the record for the most number of people mugging
at Queen Lawn in the bitter winter, or simply making a gigantic
mosaic out of the different types of coffee we have in Singapore,
please feel free to spam my email inbox.
For those who have enjoyed our major production this year, fret
not - the musical is here to stay. However, we would need your
creative juices to help get our production preparation rolling! I
am looking for **themes for the production**: it could be
anything ranging from family to love to friendship to vengeance.
If you have any themes, ideas or simply suggestions to help us
improve, please feel free to email me at
majorevent(a)ic-singsoc.net.
Happy mugging and may you have the best exam results! :)

*Note: From this term onwards, we would appreciate if members
would use the forum to buy and sell things. We will **not** be
putting any more advertisements for buying and selling through

5. dBay Auctions: A new initiative to connect ICSS buyers and sellers!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Packing to go back home for summer but realised you have too much
stuff lying about? Maybe it's that rice cooker that became
redundant cos your housemate's was better. Or perhaps it's that
useless textbook you bought cos everyone had one. Maybe it's even
that set of dumb bells that you bought on impulse cos you felt
guilty after eating too much junk food. Whatever the case, we've
all been in that dilemma before and have resorted to throwing
lots of things away because you did not know if anyone wanted to
buy them off you.
Not anymore! Presenting to you...
~~~
**dBay Auctions** (http://dbay.isgreat.org/)
A platform to connect buyers and sellers together!
~~~
It's super *simple to use,* absolutely *free* to advertise, plus
there's *no security threat* because there's nothing sensitive
being transmitted at all.
Seniors are selling tons of things for almost nothing, so do
visit and grab an unbeatable offer!
Save the Earth. Sell to juniors.

-----------------------------------------------------------------
The Incredibles are still recruiting!
The Incredibles is a new committee made up of Imperial College
Singapore Society students who have stepped forward to take on
the roles of gamemasters, subject representatives, OGLs, and many
more.
While lots of you were very supportive in signing up to be an
Incredible, we still need more helping hands! It's not a decision
to be made lightly, but we guarantee that you'll have an absolute
blast while you're at it, or Joshua will shave his head. So now
that you've had time to think about it, what else are you waiting
for?
To sign up, click on the following link, fill in the form, and
we'll contact you as soon as possible with more information on
where and when to meet us for the **30th April** and **7th May**
meet-and-greet sessions: http://goo.gl/zmj8O

Power, Great Fun" and uploaded it to the Imperial College
Singapore Society website, so click here to read it!
http://goo.gl/eMPmR
***Change in the Incredibles' Meet and Greet Session***
Please note that the 14th May meet and greet session has been
shifted to **7th May**. All those who had appointments scheduled
for 14th May have or should shortly be receiving an email from
Huang Hong about the change in date.
***The Unveiling of the Incredibles***
On the **14th of May**, during the Senior's Farewell Party, all
of those who signed up to be an Incredible will be receiving a
letter from the 29th Exco, detailing their role in the brand new
Incredibles committee.
The letter will also include additional information about
meetings (not during exams, we promise), dry runs (if
applicable), and more. We hope you'll be looking forward to this
day as much as we are!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
2. Senior's Farewell Party (14 May 2011)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The Senior's Farewell Party has been shifted to the 14th of May,
in order to give everyone a bit more breathing space before their
exams. It'll be a night of great food and great games, and a
chance for the juniors and seniors to mingle before everybody
gets depressed about the upcoming examinations.
Date: **14th May 2011**
Time: 1830 onwards
Venue: Beit Union Dining Hall (2nd floor above the Metric)
The Senior's Farewell Party will also be the inaugural Iron Chef
Imperial competition, with the graduating batch of seniors as
guest judges. Every one is encouraged to bring something to show
off their culinary skills, whether it be a solo endeavour or a
group adventure. Voting will be strictly confidential, and the
winner will receive a (very) glamorous award!
*Are you chef enough?*
Guidelines:
1. Not more than 3-4 pounds per person for which the portion of
food is provided should be spent on the dish.
2. If the current Iron Chef Imperial does not provide a dish at
the subsequent potluck event (i.e., wishes to retire or has lots
of coursework), the title automatically goes to the person with
the highest votes.
3. All forms of food and cooking will make the chef eligible for
the title of Iron Chef Imperial. This includes roasting,
toasting, baking, braising, steaming, broiling, blanching,
boiling, double boiling, poaching, pressure cooking, grilling,
steeping, frying, stir frying, deep frying, pan frying and
smoking. No-bake cheesecakes are also allowed.
4. Take-away and subsequent decanting of food from Oriental
Canteen or any other established eatery/restaurant is not
allowed. Violators will be mocked for the rest of their college
and subsequent life.
5. Hiring/persuading/blackmailing of celebrity chefs such as
Gordon Ramsay and Thomas Keller is frowned upon. Not as bad if
they are persuaded to buy ICSS membership.
6. Sabotage* character assassination and smear and slander
campaigns are strictly not allowed. Violators will be made
to **either** do the macarena in the Queen’s Lawn Café
during lunchtime (at full volume, with accompanying
soundtrack) **or** do the intended target’s dishes for a
month.
* Sabotage also includes “Sorry, it just totally, completely
slipped out of my hands by accident.”
RSVP at our Facebook page to confirm your attendance for the
party! :) http://goo.gl/zHnZT

6. Fusion @ London
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The University of York is currently looking to recruit Imperial
College students to take on a number of roles on the panel of a
new organisation named Fusion.
Fusion is basically an annual music, fashion and dance event
which collaborates with a number of University societies with the
primary aim of raising money for charity. The York Fusion is
typically made up of a cast of at least 100 students and attracts
an audience of around 4000 people every year, raising tens of
thousands for charity. Its considerable prestige and audience
figures have guaranteed sponsorship from well known companies
including KPMG, Ernst & Young and Unilever, and has also
attracted many high profile guests. The show typically takes a
year to plan and is renowned for being an outstanding event of a
professional standard entirely run and performed by students. The
show welcomes a wide range of artistic skills resulting in an
amalgamation of talents that guarantees an outstanding
entertainment. It is without a doubt one of the most enjoyable
and entertaining ways to contribute to charity.
Various London University societies have successfully organised
their own events exhibiting a range of vibrant cultures to the
international community, but there is yet to be one show which
integrates all the different cultures and societies either within
a single University or in collaboration with other Universities.
The aim of bringing the show to London this year is thus to
include students from 4 London Universities and get the best
artistic talents these universities have to offer.
Those interested in joining the committee may apply for any of
the positions below. Please contact secretary(a)ic-singsoc.net by
