[FILM-Users 01194] FILM: Adjustment in Charging Rates Effective March 1

Dear Colleagues, As you are aware, FILM operates under a full recovery cost model, which requires us to recover our operational expenses, including service costs, salaries, and other associated expenditures. Since 2019, FILM has maintained frozen charging rates<https://www.imperial.ac.uk/medicine/facility-for-imaging-by-light-microscop…> to support our users during this period. However, over the past few years, inflation<https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/monetary-policy/inflation/inflation-calcula…> has risen by approximately 26%, significantly impacting our operational costs. To ensure the sustainability of our services and to compensate for these increased expenses, we will be adjusting our charging rates effective March 1, 2025. The updated rates will be as follows: - Confocal usage: £44/hour - Epi system: £30/hour - Software packages and Image Analysis workstations (e.g., Imaris): £10/hour These rates will be periodically reviewed and adjusted in the future to align with our business model and operational needs. [FILM-Users 01192] Retirement of CF3, CF4, and SR1 Microscopes in 2025

Dear Colleagues and Users, I would like to inform you that the CF3 microscope<https://www.imperial.ac.uk/medicine/facility-for-imaging-by-light-microscop…>, which has served us well for 19 years, will be retired effective January 6, 2025. Unfortunately, Leica has been unable to provide support for this instrument for several years, and its age has made continued operation increasingly challenging. In addition to CF3, the CF4<https://www.imperial.ac.uk/medicine/facility-for-imaging-by-light-microscop…> and SR1<https://www.imperial.ac.uk/medicine/facility-for-imaging-by-light-microscop…> microscopes will also be retired in 2025 due to similar considerations. These decisions were influenced by several factors, including a shortage of staff, an increase in staff workload, and ongoing difficulties in recruiting new personnel to manage and maintain these systems. We understand that this may impact some ongoing or planned projects, and we are committed to assisting you in navigating this transition. This role is initially offered on a 1-year contract and focuses on the development and enhancement of high-throughput and multiplex imaging technologies. Key responsibilities include providing support and training in light microscopy and contributing to the operational and strategic development of the FILM facility. Dear FILM Users, I am writing to inform you of upcoming changes in the FILM team. Starting December 1, 2024, our staff will be temporarily reduced to two members: David and myself. Maddy<https://www.linkedin.com/in/madeline-tisi/> will be temporarily leaving us, with plans to return in a year, while Ana<https://www.imperial.ac.uk/medicine/facility-for-imaging-by-light-microscop…> has decided to resign. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank both Ana and Maddy for their invaluable contributions to FILM, especially in supporting users, conducting training sessions, and advancing imaging technologies. Maddy has been instrumental in advanced imaging, e.g. STED imaging, and Ana has made substantial contributions to multiplex imaging.
