                        Updates
Hi everyone,
If you have been reading the Fiesta posts closely, you would have realised
that next week we have our Ordinary General Meeting (OGM). This is where we
will *update you on the various happenings*, on completed events and
upcoming ones. As it is a members' meeting, everyone will have the chance
to *engage the Exco* on any matter that concerns the society. To include it
in the agenda, you can click on the agenda link below for directions.
Finally, we will be giving out your *membership cards* PLUS a *free Ben &
Jerry's cup* to all attendees who sign up at the link below. We will also
be presenting the *Fiesta awards* and Point Hope will be presenting their
Book Prize to their awardees.
As for Hall Fiesta, all you have to do now is to "like" all your favourite
dishes on our Facebook page, under the Hall Fiesta album. Then, come down
to OGM to witness the presentation of all 3 awards of "Closest to Home",
"Best Caption" and "Most Popular Dish"!
Some announcements:
1. Nottingham games is *this Saturday*. Time to take out the war paint and
bring along your warrior gear to the year's last major sports competitive
showdown.
2. 2nd "Wicked" Outing. *Only 6 tickets available*, which will be allocated
on a first-come-first-serve basis. No time to wait. Early bird catches the
worm.
3. Shopping Trip and Autumn Trip are now closed! Any new signups will be
put on the waiting list.
Now for the non-ICSS stuff, that are nonetheless important and quite
relevant to some of you:
1. The UKSSC AGM will be held on the *17th of November*. You may sign up as
a candidate or nominate your friends. Deadline for submission of Nomination
Form and Manifesto is 10th November 2359hrs.
2. Chance to meet DBS CEO, Mr. Piyush Gupta at a *complimentary* talk cum
networking event held at Millennium Gloucester Hotel on the *6th of November
*. Food will be provided, and if previous experience is to be trusted, you
can be sure that it will be of a high standard.
3. Finally, for those who may consider a career in NEA, EDB, MFA or Foster
Wheeler, check out the OSU career series below.
Once again, thanks for reading. (:
Your faithful secretary,
Gabriel

 12. Global Inter Universities Presidents (GIUP)
Message from GIUP:
JOB POSTING: *Nationwide Student Blogger*
GIUP is providing the most talented finance students in the UK with an
outstanding opportunity to significantly boost their career in high finance.
One of the main reasons why it's so hard to become a respected financial
blogger is because you must first become well-known. Bloggers must market
themselves, which can take many years; it’s the main reason why many great
bloggers remain undiscovered.
The right student will take advantage of this opportunity to make a name
for themselves on a platform that will be doing their global marketing for
them.
Our company is seeking the most knowledgeable students in each of the
following industries:
- Investment Banking, M&A and Private Equity
- Trading (from global macro to quants and algo. specialists)
- Hedge Funds and Alternative Investments
- Venture Capital
Your task will be to compose discerning blog posts about your specialist
area on a weekly or bi-monthly basis. These blog posts will be seen by
thousands and may significantly raise your online career profile with
leading financial industry employers. Please apply through Facebook by
sending a private message via our FB page – suitable candidates will then
be contacted by our managing director: https://www . facebook . com/GIUPLou*

                        Updates
Hi everyone,
Just a few updates from the last KnT.
Firstly, Halloween Party is *today, 26th October, Friday*! Dress up, cook
gross stuff, and come down for a night of Halloween-themed fun! Check out
the activities we have in store for you in the post below. Don't be late,
we have a surprise for all of you!
Secondly, if you haven't done so yet, it's time to get cooking! The
inter-hall fiesta competition closes this *Sunday, 28th October*, so send
in your photos fast. Many halls have already had their cookouts and it was
great to have seniors from all years come down to show us how it should be
done: cooking, baking, foosball, you name it.
Thirdly, a tiny update for Notts games. The transport there and back will
cost £10 to cover the coach hire price. Sorry that this was not
communicated before.
Fourth, deadline for signing up for the trip to Canterbury has been
extended to *next Wednesday, 31st October*.
Fifth, we have secured a 10% group discount for all attendees of our
shopping trip to Ashford! Discount cards will be distributed upon arrival.
Also, the cost of the coach will be £8 for members, and £10 for non-members.
Finally, under our careers section, Credit Suisse application deadline is
today, 26th October, Friday, and we have one new post from Global Inter
Universities Presidents (GIUP).
Hope everyone's enjoying their term so far. (:
Your faithful secretary,
Gabriel

 5. Autumn Trip
Getting sick of the ever-hectic city life in London? Want to head somewhere
to relax but don’t know where to go? We’ve got the solution for you!
Introducing this year’s autumn trip to... -drum roll- ... *Canterbury*! (:
It’s time to ditch your books for a day, because ICSS is organising a trip
out to south-east England, Canterbury, on *24th November, Saturday *for a
fun-filled day of exploration and sightseeing! Take this chance to release
all that stress accumulating this term, with your friends/ hallmates/
housemates /anyone from Imperial! All you need to do is sign up, be there
to board the bus on time and we’ll do the rest!
"But but but, what can you do at Canterbury?" You may ask. Well, this city
promises plenty!
Once at Canterbury, one definitely must visit the *Canterbury
Catherdral,*one of the oldest and most famous Christian structures in
England. This
cathedral has a rich history and is well known for the murder of then
archbishop, Thomas Becket. After a visit to the cathedral, head over to *St
Augustine’s Abbey*, another well-known place where Eadbald, the King of
Kent was buried. If churches aren't your thing, you can always head off to
see the *Norman castle* or go for a city tour known as the *Canterbury Tales
*. If you need a break, you can head over to *The Goods Shed* for a wide
variety of food or simply enjoy your high tea at *Tiny Tim’s Tearoom.* You
can end off by taking some photos at the *West gate*, the largest surviving
city gate in England with a road that leads to London.
For more details on what to do or see, visit our website at bit .
ly/Autumn_2012<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/2kxwd-1ez6m-ab1ivbe8z?u=http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%…>
.
So what are you waiting for? Quickly grab your friends to join you on this
trip! Sign up here<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/2kxwd-1ez6m-ab1ivbe8z?u=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.g…>.
Don’t wait as it’s first come first serve! We will be *departing from Beit
Quadrangle at 8am strictly* and will reach back at London at 830pm
(estimated). Sign ups will close on *31th October, Wednesday. *Please note
that only ICSS members will get to enjoy discounted prices for this trip!

See you there! (:

 6. ICSS Membership
Hello fellow Singaporeans,
It’s once again time to sign up for ICSS membership. Although it costs a
mere £5, your combined contributions will go a long way in funding our

funding from the union to better support our events.
In addition, members enjoy healthy discounts in many of our events such as
Ski Trip, Chinese New Year Reunion dinner, and our trips to various parts
of the UK. Less healthy discounts would comprise the restaurant
partnerships, including Chinatown favourites Rasa Sayang, Gold Mine, Four
Seasons, and many more.

For more details on what to do or see, visit our website at bit .
ly/Autumn_2012<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/2jvh5-1ez6m-1iso25umjv?u=http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly…>
.
So what are you waiting for? Quickly grab your friends to join you on this
trip! Sign up here<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/2jvh5-1ez6m-1iso25umjv?u=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.…>.
Don’t wait as it’s first come first serve! We will be *departing from Beit
Quadrangle at 8am strictly* and will reach back at London at 830pm
(estimated). Sign ups will close on *27th October, Friday*. Please note
that only ICSS members will get to enjoy discounted prices for this trip!

batches, in the universal and "friendly" twin arenas of sport and food,
amidst the cool autumn breeze, under the light autumn sun.
Finally, check out the networking event organised by OSU and Contact
Singapore on the 7th of October, the DBS talent programmes and the Citibank

look out for it in subsequent KnTs! Note that the website will have the
official booking process, with payment to be made as well. Hence if you

 5. Freshers' Walkabout
Remember feeling like a complete blur sotong on your first day in London?
Remember how you were led by your amazing seniors around the area, who
navigated to all the essential places and good eats as if they had a
mini-map in their heads? Well, it's now your chance to be that senior.
We are looking for enthusiastic seniors who can commit the entire day of *29th
of September* (preferably arriving earlier) and are willing to bring the
freshers around on the walkabout. There is a big role to be filled here as
you will be giving the freshers their first impression of London. Those
with a good knowledge of the places around your previous hall (additional
halls are a bonus) and of course, the various routes to Imperial, would be
preferred. Needless to say, please make sure that you will be in London at
this time!
OGLs are encouraged to sign up as the freshers will already recognise you,
and so are Hall Seniors as the freshers will be seeing a lot more of you.
That said, everyone is welcome. (:
If you're interested, please drop me an email at
secretary(a)ic-singsoc.netwith your name, SG and UK contact nos., email,
date of arrival in the UK
and previous halls of residence. The most important thing to note is still
that you will be in London on the 29th and can commit the whole day. Thanks!
Your faithful secretary,
Gabriel Quek

Hi everyone,
We had a great turnout at Warwick Summer Games this year all thanks to you
guys! The amount of enthusiasm, energy, and spirit was really very
heartening to see. I would say more, but I shall let our sports officer Kai
Qin reveal the results and have the final word below; go see what he has to
say. (:
Urgent message for all, ICAAS dinner sign ups close tomorrow, *Monday 27th
Sept at 2359*! This is a dinner that is heavily subsidised and definitely
worth the money. For those who are graduating or have just graduated, this

everyone else, it is a good chance to meet our own distinguished alumni

Homecoming! You can order this limited edition shirt through the link below!
Finally, I do apologise for the broken links in the KnT from the previous
issue, for both the ICAAS dinner and UK Bound. They are fixed now.

Hi everyone,
Ski Trip 2012 is here!!!!! Check out the awesome deal that we have managed
to procure this year and you'll see why we're so excited and jumping in our
seats! Held from 14th - 23rd December at Tignes, with a very attractive

your friends from ICSS. Sign ups will open very soon, so mark out the dates

Summer Games 2011. Can you simply leave the fray after being so close to
the top spot? Join forces with our fresh blood and maybe make a few new
friends this year! Word has it that even our President is getting down and
dirty in the bloody and cutthroat game of Scrabble. So what are you waiting
for? Every war needs its veterans.
On a final note, sorry for the logo not loading in the previous KnT, it can
now be found on our website at the link below. And please sign up for the
Freshers' Walkabout if you are available to help out. Thank you!

 1. Ski Trip 2012
News about the much awaited annual Imperial Ski Trip has finally arrived!
This year, in commemoration of the ICSS’s 30th Anniversary, we have managed
to secure an irresistible package with highly attractive perks specially
for our members!
This December, we will be headed for the snow-sure and picturesque French
town of *Tignes*. Located at an altitude of over 3000m, Tignes boasts over
300km of pistes and off-pistes and is part of one of the world’s largest
ski areas, Espace Killy. Tignes promises to be all that you might expect of
a ski resort, and more! After all, what would you expect of the host of the
1992 Winter Olympics and 2013 Winter X-Games?
Now, this might seem like something for veteran ski enthusiasts only. Rest
assured, however, as our resort this year has a multitude of slopes of
varying levels of difficulty to cater to folks of all abilities, from those
who have never seen ski blades before to those who would strap them on and
speed off the moment they hit the slopes. Do note that it is highly like
that the majority of our participants will be amateurs, so if you’re
worried about being seen (or caught on video) slipping and falling in an
unglam fashion time and again, well, you’ll definitely not be alone! For
those who think that a whole week of skiing is way too much, there is an
assortment of activities available at the resort and places to visit in the
nearby town to keep you entertained non-stop if you so wish, such as pool,
swimming, TV, bars and restaurants.
Details of the package are provided below.
·* 14th December 2012* (Friday evening, last day of Autumn Term) to
*23rdDecember 2012
* (Sunday early morning) – back in London in time for Christmas and the
Boxing Day sales!!!
· All-time low price of *£465* – package includes:
o 7 nights’ accommodation (4-bed rooms)
o Return coach travel (including ferry crossings, fuel/toll charges,
tourist taxes)
o 6 days equipment hire (ski/snowboard equipment)
o All meals (buffet)
o 6 days full area lift pass (Espace Killy)
o 12 hours instruction (2 hours a day)
o Custom-designed T-shirt
o Evening entertainment programme (optional)
In accordance with our 30th Anniversary celebrations, we will be giving
priority to ICSS members and their family and friends for sign-ups, as
places are limited! This will be a fantastic opportunity for you to go on a
holiday with friends or family, meet other ICSS members, or simply to get
away from the dreary London winter and have a tremendously exciting week of
fun and adventure, so mark these dates down in your calendar quickly!
Do stay tuned, as sign-ups for this exclusive Ski Trip 2012 will be opening
soon! If you have any queries, feel free to contact *Bennett* at
vicepresident(a)ic-singsoc.net.

                        Updates
Hi everyone,
How are you all enjoying your summer? Spice it up even more by joining ICSS
in our summer events below!
Firstly, UKBound: Vogue has arrived! It will be held at *Zouk*, on *15th
Sept (Saturday)*. More details can be found below. If you want to wish to
help out with the event, you may contact Ting Wei at
eventsofficer1(a)ic-singsoc.net.
Also back in town, we have the annual Warwick Summer Games! Our sports
officer has a fierce hunger for the top spot this year. Do not let his call
to arms fall upon deaf ears! It's once again time to take up your weapons,
bats, racquets, and sticks, and march to face the challenge! It is time to
sound the horn and claim the title which was so nearly ours before. Sign up
now!
Thirdly, the DPM Dialogue is *this Wednesday, 25th July*. Don't miss out on
the chance to engage DPM Teo on social media and its role in shaping
society.
Last among the events, UKSSC has organised a forum with Minister Chan Chun
Sing on the *4th of August*, with our Singapore Identity as a theme.
Personally, I find this yet another topic that is close to our hearts, with
the recent influx of foreigners and resultant shift in our identity.
I would also like to express my appreciation for all those who attended the
recently concluded Pre-Departure Talk, on behalf of the Exco. Your
continued support is essential to the success of our events and the event
really would not have been possible without your dedication to and belief
in our mission to create a home away from home for all Singaporeans.
Finally, if you recall, we held our Logo Design Competition sometime ago.
The results and the new logo is now out! Check it out below.
P.S. There will be no real need for bats and racquets at this year's WSG,
only floorball sticks, and your hands and feet. And brain.
Your faithful secretary,
Captain Obvious (Gabriel)

 8. SGin(C) 2012
Hi friends,
Singaporeans in Conversation, *SGin(C) 2012*, is an annual event organized
by The United Kingdom Singaporean Students Council (The UKSSC). SGin(C) is
a half-day event that not only attracts Singaporean students from local
universities but also those in the UK, USA and China.
The forum this year is centred on the notion of the Singaporean identity
and what it means to be a Singaporean. We will explore the challenges that
our Singaporean society will be facing in the near future and how this
would shape our identity. This topic is close to the hearts of Singaporean
as we are constantly influenced by both internal and exogenous factors that
shape our identity.
The dialogue will be geared towards exploring the true meaning of being a
Singaporean. This subject seems all the more significant today following
the recent spate of immigrant-related issues, ranging from curry to jobs.
Date: *4 August 2012*
Time: *8.45am-1.00pm*
Guest of Honour: *Chan Chun Sing*, Acting Minister for Community
Development, Youth and Sports.
Venue: To be Advised
