4. Script for Major Event 2018
Heya, everybody!
As Easter break steadily draws to a close, we’re approaching that time of
year again... Nope, I didn’t mean exam season. The hunt for a majorly
awesome Major Event script is on once more!
So why not take a break from writing those essays and calculations to write
up an idea for your vision of *ME 2018*? Your ideas, your story, your
choice of genre – all we ask is that you try to integrate *some aspects of
Singaporean culture* for us to showcase to the Imperial community and that
you give some *scope for our talented* *singers, dancers and musicians* *to
shine* as well! If chosen, you’ll get a chance to work on the creative team
and see your story grow from the half-page you dashed out at 3 am while
procrastinating on deadlines to a grand theatrical extravaganza!
Here are some dates for you to take note of:
*7 May* *2017* *(Sunday)* – this is the deadline for the preliminary draft.
At this point, we just want a plot outline and, if possible, one full scene
so that we can get an idea of your scriptwriting style. Anything longer is
very welcome! From there we will work with you to help you give shape to
your initial ideas.
*19 June 2017* *(Monday)* – this will be the final deadline for the
finished scripts. Mark it on your calendars now in case you forget!
Please email your submissions to *majorevent(a)ic-singsoc.net
<majorevent(a)ic-singsoc.net>*. If you have any questions, do email me at
that address as well, or feel free to spam my Facebook or shout at me from
across QTR at lunchtime – whatever floats your boat.
Happy writing!
>From your own-nightclub-singer-turned-MEO,
Rasika

can choose from!
Details to take note of:

Dry Run* is on *5 - 6 August 2017*! So do make sure to keep these dates
free on your calendar!
To allow us to get to know you better, we will be holding *Meet and Greet*
Sessions on *2 - 4 May 2017* :D (More information about Meet and Greet

1. Message from the President
Hi everyone,
First of all, I would like to make use of this newsletter to thank the
outgoing 34th ExCo for all their hard work and dedication in the past year.
I think that they have done an immense job of turning London into a home
away from home, and as one of the freshers who benefitted so much from
their initiatives, I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to them.
After a week of handovers, we, the 35th ExCo, are ready and raring to go.
We've got a series of events lined up for you to start of our term, and I
hope that you will look forward to these initiatives and support them, in
our collective endeavour to make a loving family in this home away from
home. In addition, as plans for the summer are also slowly taking shape, we
hope that you can also find the time to support these events, so that we
can show everyone what this Imperial Singsoc family is all about! :)
Like I've said before at AGM, I'm a big fan of "paying it forward"; and so
I hope that in the coming Easter break and beyond, we can all do a little
something for the people and friends around us. A little word of
encouragement or a small act of kindness can go a very long way.
Enjoy your Easter holidays!
Your Disney President,
Benjamin

Digest
Hey everyone!
This will be the *last issue* of The Kaya & Toast Times from the *34th ICSS
ExCo*. I do hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed
writing it!
On behalf of the 34th, I would like to sincerely thank everyone for their
support during our term. It has been a great pleasure to serve the society.
Our *Annual General Meeting (AGM)* concluded on *1 Mar 2017*, where the
34th gave an overview of the past year before officially stepping down.
Hustings for the *35th ICSS ExCo* were held, and as part of the voting
procedure of the Big Elections last week, the 35th has been elected as
follows:
*President:* Benjamin Wong
*Vice-President:* Douglas Chan
*Treasurer:* Aaron Lau
*Secretary:* Tricia Teo
*Sports Officer:* Carys Hor
*Major Event Officer:* Rasika Kale
*Liaisons Officer:* Lim Yu Jie
*Events Officers:* Lim Hua Chong, Huang Guan
We would like to congratulate the 35th on being voted in, thank everyone
who ran for the elections for stepping up, and wish them all the best for
the coming term!
The rest of this issue will be farewell and thank you messages from the
34th. It will be a really long read but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless!
Your sentimental Secretary,
Hui Chiang
*P.S. On this day in 2013, Pope Francis was elected, in the papal conclave,
as the 266th Pope of the Catholic Church. Throughout his public life, Pope
Francis has been noted for his humility, emphasis on God's mercy, concern
for the poor, populist causes and commitment to interfaith dialogue. He is
credited with having a less formal approach to the papacy than his
predecessors. "Each of us has a vision of good and of evil. We have to
encourage people to move towards what they think is good... Everyone has
his own idea of good and evil and must choose to follow the good and fight
evil as he conceives them. That would be enough to make the world a better
place."*

1. Final Address by President, Si Ci
After a hectic year of events and activities, the time for 34th to step
down has (finally?) arrived. This 1 year serving as your President has been
an extremely fulfilling experience and a crazy adventure. Stepping down was
honestly bittersweet, knowing that it is time to let go of something that
has become a part of my life. The past few months have been exhausting and
stressful, but I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the 34th, and I
am truly grateful to all 8 of them. I am honestly
surprised/impressed/thankful for/at how we managed to work so well together
as a team, and not just as individual Exco members. Thank you for being my
dream team and the most perfect team that I could ask for, for always being
there for one another whenever any of us needed an extra hand, and for the
fun times beyond work that we have. Thank you for the hard work and heart
work that you guys have put in over the past 12 months, for all the times
that we've debated over decisions, whether big or small, and for the crazy
“stubborn” sense of responsibility that saw us through our term.
I know sometimes I might not be the easiest person to deal with, and you
guys might have dreaded seeing messages from me, especially the way I bug
you guys for stuff or the way I spam message you guys at odd hours. But
thank you for dealing with my nagging/impatience/Dory-ness for the past 12
months.
*JR*, thank you for being my punching bag / pillar of support / advisor,
basically someone whom I can turn to whenever I needed help/advice. Thank
you for being the calm one all the time while I panic about everything, for
listening to all my worries and concerns about Singsoc whenever anything
came to my mind. I really respect and admire how you are always so
cool-headed even in the craziest situations. So yup, really thank you for
being there and supporting me through this journey, I wouldn't have made it
through the term without you.
*JD*, to be honest I used to dread the times when I have to talk to you
about work initially, cos you can be really difficult to "deal with". But
as we all learnt more about one another, I'm really thankful to have you in
the Exco cos it just means that I don’t need to worry much about our
finances. Thank you for being strict on us whenever it was needed, and for
handling everything so well. I've really learn a lot from you in these past
few months (: And beyond work, you've really brought much laughter to the
team so thank you for that too.
*HC*, I'm really thankful that you've stepped up beyond your role in the
Exco and it has really made us a better team. Thank you for always being
there whenever the Exco needed help, whether it was 3am UKBound nights, or
our cooking sprees, or the simple small details that makes our events
click. Thank you for the countless times that you've said yes whenever I
asked for help and thank you for being someone whom I know we can rely on.
*YR*, thank you for being one of the easiest people to work with cos you're
always so adaptable and receptive to everything. You've been super
supportive and encouraging from the very start when we were running for
elections till now and I am really thankful for that. You're someone whom I
know I can really trust and it was evident from how you handled Sojourn so
well despite your internship and all, and there was literally not much for
me to worry about. Also, thank you for always looking out for the freshers
/ being able to connect well with them and I think this was part of what
made our Exco work.
*YT*, thank you for being the quirky one with your always-so-savage
comments that always bring laughter to the team. Your lame jokes never fail
to help us keep people engaged, be it at Sojourn or CNY dinner. Thank you
for being our masterchef whenever we decide to embark on a crazy cooking
spree, and for helping us to put things into perspective whenever we tried
to aim for the stars. And thank you for always pushing yourself to give
more to Singsoc even when you're tired out, I really respect you for that.
*JJ*, what do I say to the one who always bullies me ): haha kidding, I
must say I'm really thankful to have you in the Exco, thank you for
bringing much fun and laughter to the team amidst the stress and work. But
no thanks for bullying me and calling me Dory :/ But honestly, our Exco
dynamics would have been really different without the wild JJ so thank you
for bringing that to the team. And thank you for all the time and effort
that you’ve put in for UKBound although it was not under your purview, but
because of you, so many things managed to get sorted out smoothly with your
experience.
*JasP*, you are just amazing. Honestly, I have no idea how you manage all
your work + Major Event so well, it's really admirable (: I really respect
you for how you manage to pull everyone together through Major Event and I
can safely say that we have really achieved the objectives of Major Event,
bringing people together, all thanks to your hard work and heart work. I’m
sure you have left a great impact in all those who’ve participated. And
also, thank you for always being so ready to help the Exco whenever anyone
needed help, especially early on in our term when Major Event was not at
the top of our list yet. I really appreciate it (:
*Nat*, thank you for being there for me and giving me your advice from the
very beginning, when I was considering running for Presidency, till the
very end. You’re someone whom I truly respect, for all your wisdom,
passion, and commitment. I really admire how you put your feedback/opinions
across while always letting the Exco member in charge feel respected, and
for how you're always asking yourself how we can do better regardless of
how big/small the concern is. Thank you for stepping beyond what your role
entails, thank you for listening to my worries and for the alternative
perspective that you always offer.
Thank you to all my friends around me, especially my housemates, for being
there for me, and for all the support that you have given me in the past
year, without which I wouldn’t have made it (sanely) through my term.
Thank you to all my friends around me, for listening to my never-ending
rants and never failing to encourage me in the toughest of times. A huge
thank you to my housemates, *Tse Puay*, *Synth-Di* and *Jean*, for always
being so understanding when I come home late and cooking for me when my
schedule gets too hectic. Special thanks also goes to *Wan Qing*, for all
your constant support and advice every single time I've asked you for help.
Thank you so much for making this transition so much more manageable! You
guys have been invaluable through this journey, without which I wouldn’t
have made it (sanely) through my term.
And finally, thank you Singsoc, it has been a joy and honour to serve as
your President. I am thankful for the opportunity to be able to give back
to this family that has given me so much more than I could have ever asked
for.
Singsoc will always have a special place in my heart, and may it continue
to be a home away from home for all of us <3
Signing off for the last time, your nostalgic President,
Si Ci
2. Final Address by Vice President, Junrui
Dear Singsoc,
It has really been a crazy year being in the Exco with the experience being
that of a roller coaster ride of both fun times and tough times. Looking
back one year on, I’m really very thankful to everyone for giving me to
opportunity to serve and learn from this amazing community of people.
Though there have been many roadblocks and detours on this journey (and
there still is one last one) I’m thankful for the understanding and
patience that everyone has given me and I wouldn’t give this experience up
for anything.
To the seniors: Thanks for being the inspiration that made me decide to
step up and embark on this journey. It has been a wonderful experience!
Thanks for all your advice that you’ve given me when I’ve gotten lost in
this journey. To my cast team: The late-night trainings though tough have
always been a source of joy during my weeks in school. Being able to
interact with you bunch of talented, bubbly, and full of nonsense people
has brought many a smile to my face and I’ll miss you guys. To my
housemates: Thanks for being understanding whenever we use up some of the
house for exco stuff. You guys really make me feel like I’ve come home and
can let my hair down and destress. Thanks also in particular for dealing
with my nagging all the time haha. To Singsoc: Thank you for all your
support and encouragement throughout this year! This year would definitely
have not been the same without each and everyone’s contributions. It’s been
a pleasure to serve this community and I love you guys!
To the 35th: This next year ahead may be a tough one as you now have to
balance your school work, personal life, and exco duties but remember why
you’ve decided to step up and don’t lose faith. Trust in yourselves and
your team and if you guys ever need advice, we’ll be here to help (: GLHF!
Your wistful vice president,
Junrui
3. Final Address by Treasurer, Jun Da
Thank you all for your support the past year and I hope the 34th have made
your experience here in Singsoc a memorable one (: I believe we’ve done our
part to make everyone feel welcomed & represented (budgetwise especially
heh) but do forgive us if we’ve missed out on anyone!
Taking up this thankless job has been far from easy and I couldn’t have
done it without the constant encouragement from people around me (: Special
shoutout to *bng*, *zw* and *syn* for always being there when I needed
help! For the first and last time on KnT, signing off,
Your generous Treasurer,
Jun Da
4. Final Address by Secretary, Hui Chiang
Thank you everyone for all your support throughout the past year! I hope
that your experience with ICSS has been an enjoyable and memorable one.
Writing KnT has been something that I always looked forward to, and I was
really happy to read on the notebook that it was something that so many of
you took time to read every week! The past year has been a thoroughly
exhilarating one; at times challenging, but at every moment rewarding. I
have learnt so much from this experience, and will never regret my decision
last year to serve. I felt a great sense of fulfillment in knowing that we
have worked to strengthen the Singapore community here at Imperial, and
that we have truly managed to create a home away from home for many of you;
somewhere to feel a sense of belonging, comfort and security in this
foreign land.
*To the 34th*, thank you for being the best team one could have asked for.
Thank you for being willing to work with my weaknesses, and for working
together as a cohesive team. We have very different personalities, but I am
glad that the diversity only made us stronger as we continually challenged
each other to grow. Throughout this journey, with endless Exco meetings,
Singsoc events where I always worry who's carrying the stuff and where does
it go, and hilarious, sometimes bizarre, but always heartfelt moments like
our circles of trust and solarbeaming, I have always looked up to each and
every one of you. *Si Ci*, your leadership and attention to detail, *Jun
Rui*, your calm and collected manner, *Jun Da*, your strong sense of
responsibility and professional conduct, *Jasper*, your boundless energy
and unbridled passion for Singsoc and the people within, *JJ*, your sense
of humour and commitment to the team despite your early ORD (heh jk), *Nat*,
your maturity, level-headedness and insane ability to juggle so many
responsibilities, *Yuan Rong*, your caring and permanent amiability, and of
course *Yan Tong*, your outspokenness and ability to see through any
situation or challenge. Once again, thank you for being willing to work
with me, and I will continue to work as Exco slave should the need ever
arise =D
*To the 35th*, I am very grateful that all of you stepped up to run, and to
continue the legacy of ICSS. The 9 of you look to be an extremely promising
team, and I am sure that you will improve on all the mistakes that we have
made, and continue to carry ICSS on your shoulders! *To Tricia*, once
again, thank you for being willing to take on this role. The role of any
Exco member is never easy, but I am sure that your motivations and desire
to serve will bring you through the toughest times. Thank you for the
message you left in the notebook, I really appreciate it! And if you ever
need help with anything, you can always look for me!
And for the last time...
Your serendipitous Secretary,
Hui Chiang
Final Address by Sports Officer, Jing Jie
Hi guys!
It’s a pretty bittersweet feeling writing this last KnT post as your Sports
Officer haha, although we’ve all looked towards our ORD date, I still can’t
believe I’m actually done done hahaha.
This past year has been nothing short of amazing and fulfilling, and yes
although we did win medals, it was really the process of us all training to
win those medals that brought a smile to my face at the end of the day.
Medals do bring smiles (seriously), but as time passes, more often than not
it is the memories of the bonds forged during the journey that stays with
us. It’s heartening to see how each sporting group is so vibrant and
active, and this would seriously not have been possible without the help of
the sports reps. Y’all know who y’all are, thanks so much guys for all the
help you’ve given me over the past year. Thanks for volunteering to front
your interest groups, and thanks for being such a great awesome bunch to
work with!
Last but not least, behind every 捣乱鬼 is a girl who’s even more 捣乱. Thanks
Chlow for being so awesome, caring, spontaneous and for putting up with my
nonsense hahaha. Thanks for supporting me through this year (and many more
to come), being yourself, and for propping me up whenever I felt the going
was getting a wee bit too tough. You know I always think I’m a very lucky
guy hahaha, and now you have me back for good ^^.
Let’s continue to win more medals and smiles in the future guys, and see
y’all soon!
Signing off (for good),
Your Sports Officer,
JJ
6. Final Address by Major Event Officer, Jasper
Major Event is undoubtedly the biggest event I’ve led so far. I am so
thankful for this opportunity and I am so grateful for all the hard work
put in by all the participants and the support my peers have for me. We
have truly made a special show that will always remain in my heart. So,
here is a little tribute to everyone who has made my journey so
unforgettable – provided my memory doesn’t fail me.
*To the 34th Exco*
Thank you for the wonderful experience. I couldn’t ask for a better team.
We all started this journey knowing almost nothing about each other but I’m
glad we’ve become close friends after everything. *Si Ci*, thank you for
always looking out for me. I know I’m a sotong, more blur than the one on
the sotong guide, but you always remind me of the things I forget and put
me back on track. Thank you for reminding me to do things in the best
interest for SingSoc and never lose focus. *Jun Rui*, thank you for being
the bedrock of this exco. You’re like the dad the exco didn’t expect to
have… someone who is sensible and can always count on to be there through
it all. *Jun Da*, thank you for hosting the exco meetings in Singapore… Oh,
and thank you for helping me with the finances of ME. Finances and sales
are not my strongest suit and I can always count on you to ensure that
everything is accounted for! *Hui Chiang*, thank you for being the most
selfless person in the exco. You’re always there whenever I need help.
However, I hope that you have grown to be a more selfish person cause, and
I quote, “selfish people live longer”. *Yan Tong*, thank you for being my
go-to point of advice regardless of how tragic I make up the situation to
be. Whenever I have a tragic dilemma or feel like everything is spiraling
towards a tragedy, I could always turn to you for advice. *Yuan Rong*,
thank you for being the calm amidst the chaos. When sh*t hits the fan, I
just look at your composed façade and I know everything is going to be all
right. *JJ*, thank you for bringing the fun – and the alcohol – to this
exco. Somehow, I feel that without you, the exco wouldn’t have been as
bonded as we are today. So, to you I say – SOLARBEAM! *Nat*, you have done
so much to Singsoc and ME but I have never once heard you complain.
Sometimes I really wonder how do you do all that and remain sane. You are a
role model and I always look up to you to keep my sanity in check. Thank
you for your support, reassurance and encouragement!
*To my Creative Team*
You guys are the most talented bunch of people I have ever met and I am so
grateful that all of you poured out your heart and soul for ME and your
teams. Thank you for coming on this Major Event journey with me and thank
you for putting your trust and faith in me. *Guan Ming*, words cannot
describe how grateful I am to have you as our director. You’ve not only
managed to do a two-man job but you are also there to provide me with
emotional support. Thank you for being a great friend through this process.
*Eugene*, thank you for writing Getai, I cannot ask for a more well-written
script! And thanks for helping in cast, your inputs are invaluable and your
eloquently animated persona really made rehearsals enjoyable. *Mag *and
*Sab*, thank you for leading the Dance team through the most ambItious
dAnce rOutines I have ever seen. Having no knowledge in Dance, I really
have a much greAter appreciatiOn for Dance after thIs. So, thAnk you to the
bOth of you! *Teun Yee* and *Hao Yang*, thank you for your unwavering
dedication to the chorale team. I also really enjoyed jamming to Hamilton
during rehearsals, they were my little moments of destressing. *Joejyn* and
*Carys*, you guys lead the props team so well I didn’t even have to worry
about you guys – well except for that moment with the breakable tables –
but that ambition paid off! *Ian*, thank you for all the valuable insights
you have provided. It’s true that the quietest people have the loudest
minds. *Maurice*, thank you for everything! I knew musically the show is in
good hands under your control. We couldn’t have been like a *sky bird
soaring through the sky touching the stars* without you. #IMWT
To the incredible choreographers, *Mi Qi*, *Jie Ying*, *Yong Shen*, *Tyler*
, *Kuang Wen*, *Sab* and *Mag* I have experience firsthand how difficult
and tiring dancing can be. It’s a lot more than twerking – more like
shaking – dat ass which is all I know how to do. I am amazed by your
passion and talent in dance and thankful for being so pro-active in keeping
the dance scene in SingSoc alive!
To all the talented songwriters, *Daren*, *Johnny*, *Shi Yao*, *Jia Le*,
*Lincoln*, *Shi Jia*, *Mary Grace*, *Hao Yang*, *Shang*, *Han Yung*, *Trina*
and *Maurice* you guys wrote the most amazing songs ME has ever heard.
Period. I honestly wish that I have half the amount of talent you guys
have. Songwriting is not easy, but you guys do it with so much care and
flavor.
To the photography team who has often been neglected in the shadows.
*Nat*,* Nic
Sim*,* Yu Jie*,* Kai Liang*,* Ze Guang*,* Ben Ng*,* Ben Aw* and the entire
SingSoc photography team. Thank you for capturing the incredible memories
and sharing them with us. I am amazed by the quality of the photos and how
you guys managed to keep the style so consistent! Because of you, the
memories of ME2017 will forever live on!!
*To the Major Event Team*
ME HUAT AHH!!! Thank you for tolerating my cheerleading and my crazy
antics. Also, thank you for asking me if I am alright when you guys see my
resting shag face. I really appreciate all your care and concern for me.
You guys are all so special in your own way and seeing all of you working
so closely together to put up this show makes me so proud! I really hope
many of you will come back or ME2018!
*To my Aero Buddies*
Thank you for helping me with my studies through the course of ME. *Xinyi*,
*Amanda*, *Shin Yee* and *Jean *thank you for not doing tutorials on time
so that I don’t feel like I’m the only one lagging behind. *Chris*, *Han
Hao*, *Xin Kai*, *Dennis*, thank you for teaching me the stuff I do not
understand and thank you for all the intellectual discussion I can barely
keep up with. *Hendrick*, thank you for striving for “adequacy” with me.
*Maurice*, thanks for reminding me we have a progress test 2 minutes before
the test itself. Also, thank you for pulling through Aero and ME together
with me!
*To Nic*
Thank you for all the help you have given me over the past year and giving
me all the tips of doing my job well. Thank for replying all my questions
about the job regardless of how trivial, little or stupid they can be. I
feel like the Bucky to your Captain America, the Luke Skywalker to your
Obi-Wan Kenobi. I don’t know how I would have taken over the role of MEO
without your guidance so thank you so much!!
*To Rasika *
This is the most demanding but most rewarding role. Take it in stride and
in confidence. Everyone will look up to you throughout this whole journey
so be optimistic, be fair and be kind. Most importantly, find the joy in
ME, it will motivate you to push on even in your most difficult times. Find
support among your friends and within your exco. No one can do this job
alone. Lastly, remember that I will always be there whenever you need a
helping hand.
*To the 35th Exco*
Your amazing journey begins now and I am grateful that all of you have the
passion to make SingSoc the best *Home Away From Home*. Remember that
you’re in it together through thick and thin, so help one another and make
the best out of all your skills. This one year will fly by very quickly, so
treasure every moment of it!
*To SingSoc*
Thank you for giving me this opportunity to serve you. I hope that I have
not let all of you guys down!
“*I want to sit under my own vine and fig tree. A moment alone in the
shade. At home in this nation we’ve made. One last time.*” – Hamilton

7. Final Address by Liaisons Officer, Nathanael
During my QnA for the 34th, my favourite sergeant (2SG Lee) pointed out
that I was a quiet recruit in BMT and asked if I felt I had what it takes
to lead and be in exco. I remembered telling him that our quirks,
weaknesses and mistakes do no define who we are but instead shape who we
become as long as one chooses to learn. Thank you ICSS for bearing my bare
weaknesses over the past year and affording me this opportunity to
challenge myself and learn. Singsoc has truly been a home away from home in
ways and measures I'd never be able to put into words. The privilege to
serve everyone's been a humbling one filled with many moments of inadequacy
and insecurity but with many more memories of support and encouragement
from everyone all around. The greatest fulfillment comes from knowing that
this exco's made a difference in people's uni lives and we've continued the
good work of our predecessors in cultivating a strong Singaporean community
and identity, so thank you for engaging in a dialogue with us for the past
year, it has truly been my pleasure as your #icsingsoc Liaisons Officer(:
To the photokakis, thanks for always being so willing to serve the society
and for being so dedicated despite being so under appreciated and
unnoticed. I appreciate all of you deep deep and I would not have been able
to fulfill my duties without all of you(:
To Yujie, the road ahead's going to be a challenge but I have utmost faith
that limyujie photography+design+mediamanager will only bring our society
closer together and leave even bigger shoes to stress the next LO out.
Believe in yourself, trust in the other 8 exco members and above all, care
for, listen to and love this society with all you've got. 12 months will
pass by in a flash so do your very best(as an exco member first, LO second)
and leave no regrets.
To the 34th, thank you for the past 12 months of (endless) meetings, over
ambition, sandwiches with extra pepper, sashimi and other awesome ups and
downs mixed with a healthy dose of retard sauce - I couldn't have asked for
a better team to journey with. Through the good and bad I've looked up to
everyone at some point in time so thank you for being role models for me by
being yourselves. Our collective stubbornness and heart for singsoc is
something that I'll always remember fondly and I know we'll carry these
friendships (/circles of trust) with us going forward. ORDLO! we can
finally go to the relaxing park in France (wew squeeze in one last nat
joke) (;
Your la la Liaisons Officer,
nat.tan
8. Final Address by Events Officer, Yuan Rong
A year has flown by so quickly and looking back, this has been a pretty
kickass exco journey. I would like to take this opportunity to thank a
special group of people who have made this journey so enjoyable and
memorable.
Firstly, thank you Team Sojourn and OGLs for all your support, hard work
and dedication! Despite work/family/other commitments, you guys always gave
your best and never failed to make time for all our meetings/dry runs!
Special thanks to the OGHs (*Aaheli, J Low, Joel, Sang Ju, Synth-Di* and *Zhang
Wen*) and the various comm ICs (*Amanda, Bong, Jean, Linna, Shaun, TP* and
*Yiming*). Sojourn wouldn't have been as manageable and smooth-sailing if
not for you guys! Y'all are the true heroes!
Secondly, a big thank you to the seniors and 33rds (esp *Wan Qing, Beng,
Gao Ming* and *Wei Yan*) Really appreciate all the valuable words of
advice, support and encouragement that you all gave from the start till the
end :D Couldn't have done this without y'all and I hope we've done y'all
proud!
Thirdly, thank you *Maumau* and Music Team for being the loveliest and the
most fun bunch ever (: You guys always make me #FTF and #GDLL. ME'17 was
such a gr8 experience because of y'all and I feel so glad and privileged to
be part of this mega-talented group despite my (lack of) talents. Wouldn't
have done this with anyone else! You guys are #AIMH!!
Last but not least, thank you 34ths for being the dream team and for
running this race together (: special shoutout to my partner-in-crime YT
for all the bs and nonsense you give. hahaha jk la but it has been awesome
working with you and it's finally time for us to sit back, relax and watch
HC and HG suffer :D
To the 35ths (esp *Hua Chong* and *Huang Guan*) : Hahaha, it's your turn
now to shine! (: time really flies so cherish these moments and GLHF! Feel
free to approach YT if y'all have any issues (;
For the last time,
Your 肥bulous Events Officer,
Yuan Rong
9. Final Address by Events Officer, Yan Tong
A year ago, I was inspired and motivated to run, with 10000 ideas for 10000
events. While I may not have achieved everything I promised to (sorry
popiah party fail), I sincerely hope that we have left our legacy as EOs
and hopefully lived up to the crazy high benchmark set by our predecessors.
To the 34th, thank you for being my motivation and constantly offering
help. Thank you for worrying about me and also putting up with me. Beyond
just working together so seamlessly I'm most grateful that I've found a
group of friends I can be comfortable around (altho maybe not 8/10 like SC)
& I'm going to miss not seeing y'all all the damn time. But I'm also
looking forward to finally chilling w everyone again with no stress and no
srsbsns yay (-:
Thanks also to those who helped out with UKBound: Rachee for maybe going
out of your comfort zone to be Moaning Myrtle; Chloe for coming down to
help for shoots / rehearsals; photogs Collin Bingjie Zeguang Rion and Nic
Sim for the late night / long days of shoots; Aaheli for saying yes to our
last minute request of being the sorting hat; Regina and Sok Hian for
helping with the props and making them super beautiful!; Ben Yong for
coming down and helping out a lot; the 33rd who came down to help on the
actual day; predecessors Wei Yan & Sameer who answered my 10000 questions
and provided options / assurance. Thanks also to those who've been a
listening ear for when I was stressed and provided comfort in some way. For
those who came down to support the event, thank you for being a part of
UKB2016 and I sincerely hope you all had a good time; and for the
contestants, I apologize for any part of the journey that was less
pleasant, but hope that you guys took away some friendships and good
memories all the same. Special thanks to JJ who went above and beyond your
role as sports officer to help me out & JasP for chauffeuring me around all
summer (going to miss that) (can reprise role this summer also?)
To my chorale team, thank u for all your super kind notes - it's been a
pleasure being your TA & getting to know all of you! Your enthusiasm is v
heartwarming and I legit love hanging out w all of you (-:
Thanks also to yrtan for being patient and understanding! Thank you for
always doing so much stuff even when you're busy and making me feel guilty
heh; I think we are super compatible and make a great team (HAHA JK)
Lastly, thank you all for the opportunity to serve singsoc - it's been
exhausting but fulfilling, and you've been the reason I've kept my
motivation and also what made all that effort worthwhile. Thank you for
your support and encouragement (:
Your 小touched singsoc member,
小bij Yan Tong
P.S. Contrary to popular belief I am neither as pervy or lame as I might
have come across - hope I have not destroyed my cool chick rep
