Dear All, There will be a FoNS Research Computing Meeting next week and I would like us to have a Physics Departmental Computing meeting before this if at all possible. As we normally have these at lunch time I have set up a doodle poll with 12:00->13:00 and 13:00->14:00 for the rest of this week. You can find the poll at: https://doodle.com/meeting/participate/id/7axxy0ra Two of the things that I would like to discuss in particular (as well as several other things) are: - Research software engineers - how many people in your research groups spend more of their time writing code, often for more than one research area than anything else? If there was a way of pooling this effort that provided employment continuity and a promotion stucture would this be of interest to groups? - FAIR data - how are groups fulfilling their commitments to FAIR data? We mentioned this last time but there is a college wide discussion being had here and I want to make sure that physics' needs are catered for. Best, david

Outstanding ICT tickets

Dear All, Firstly my apologies to those of you who may get two copies of this email - I am sending it to the group representatives to the Departmental Computing Committee and the staff list. I have become very aware that a number of people have had problems with ICT tickets over the past several months - tickets getting lost, long delays etc. I know that there is a strong desire to improve this service in ICT and a strong incentive for us have these tickets resolved and so I would to put a list together of all outstanding tickets from physics. So please can you send me the numbers and any short appropriate narrative of tickets that you are having problems with. I am also aware that some of the people who file most tickets may not be on either list, so please can you forward this email to people who might be in that position. Best, david

Dear Physics Computing People, I have been meaning to organise a meeting at some point during this term as there is quite a lot going on but - partly because there is so much going on - it has never reached the top of my "must do now" list.
