Winter Tour!

Hi humans, We are rapidly approaching Winter Tour! *Overview* - From 13th - 20th December - You don't have to attend the whole thing - SRT knowledge required - Very good value for money - E-mail to sign up *What is it?* Winter tour is a week spent caving in the Yorkshire Dales.This is a great way to practice your SRT in the best vertical caves the UK has to offer. There'll be 5-6 possible trips including the classic Gaping Gill which features the highest unbroken waterfall in the UK and a massive main chamber - a real must see! The tour is a great opportunity to put your advanced tree training to practice, and even learn to navigate your way through a cave. You may even be honoured by the gift of a bag of wet rope to drag through the cave! *Logistics* We will be staying at the Northern Pennine Club's Greenclose Cottage in North Yorkshire. If you haven't been then you'll be glad to know that there's a great kitchen, wood fire, warm showers, cosy bunk rooms, and a great drying room so you aren't caving in wet gear all week! We'll drive up on Friday 13th December. The bus will be driving back sometime (~afternoon) on the 20th December so you can hopefully all get back home in time for Christmas! *Transport* *Minibus* - There will be 12 spaces in the 15 seater minibus, the rest of the space is used for all the rope, food and caving gear. Please get in touch if you would like a space there or back. *Train* - The closest train station is Clapham, North Yorkshire. The station is about 30 minutes walk away but if you arrive in the evening or early morning we can arrange to pick you up. Train expenses are your own. It is likely worth checking with us if anyone is driving on the same days as you as cheaper trains may be possible. *Kit* You will need to bring a sleeping bag, kit will be packed the Tuesday before hand. Some things that come in handy will be some hiking boots, a synthetic (non-cotton) set of thermals/just a top and a buff (highly useful especially for long hair) or balaclava. Uniqlo Heattech thermals have a good reputation in the club - there's a Uniqlo on High Street Ken where you can get a thermal top for ~£15. Chat to us in the bar on a Tuesday or email here for some more advice on what to buy. *Cost* Trip fee's are worked out per person, but the minibus costs will be split equally because we need it to bring all the gear to Yorkshire that everyone will be using. Previously the trip has cost £90-£110 for the full week and £50-£60 for half a week *Sign Up* If you want to sign up then please reply to this email. Yorkshire 2 Trip

Hiya Cavers, *tldr*; - Trip to Yorkshire 29th-31st November (£37) - Planned caves are Notts 1 & 2 - You need to come to tree training if you want to go on the trip - Email to ask for a place before buying the trip fee - Join our Facebook group It's time to think about Yorkshire! We'll be leaving on Friday 8th November and getting back late on the Sunday. *Tree Training* If you want to come on this trip, or any of our trips to Yorkshire or Derbyshire, you'll need to come along to tree training to learn how to use ropes in the caves! We'll be in Princes' Gardens on Wednesdays from 1 - 5 pm to teach you all you need to know. *Yorkshire* "North Yorkshire is the classic caving region in Britain for vertical caving, including probably the most famous cave entrance Gaping Gill a massive 110m shaft. The rugged beauty of the moors provides a stunning backdrop to an enormous choice of exciting potholes. A favourite with existing members for practising rope skills." *The Trip* The trip will cost £37 and this covers all accommodation, travel, equipment hire and food for the weekend! If you haven't already bought membership for the club, you'll also need to buy that on the union shop before you can purchase the trip fee. The trip fee will appear sometime before the trip, I'll send out another email when that occurs, please don't buy it until we have confirmed you have a place. We'll set off in one of the union minibuses after lectures on Friday and stop at a supermarket to buy food and booze for the weekend. The drive is long but there'll be bangin' tunes and good company to make the time fly. We'll be staying at the NPC caving hut (a cottage for cavers) in North Yorkshire. The caving cottages have bunk rooms, toilets, a kitchen and showers, as well as somewhere to dry your caving kit. This hut is a second home to many of us and we love it dearly. The cave on Saturday will be Notts 1! This is a classic Yorkshire cave with multiple routes down and opportunities to take a different route on the way out. Apparently its "well social" as you can hear the different groups. On Sunday we shall be going to Notts 2 which I am told is very fun and involves scaffolding; a "playground for adults". All trips do tend to Kingsdale however so there is chance you may end up at one of the many fantastic caves there. Hi all, *Tldr:* - *CHECC Forum - 22nd - 24th November * - *T-shirts <https://checc.org/reserve-a-t-shirt/>, I'm happy to collect for people* - *reply to this email to come / tell me to pick up a t-shirt* CHECC = The Council of Higher Education Caving Clubs The CHECC forum is basically a weekend where university caving clubs from around the UK meet up for lots of drinking, dancing and general socialising. I do also plan on trying to get a small group together for caving on Saturday. There are also training sessions held on the Saturday and Sunday which can be really interesting and useful. There will be caving game competitions on the Saturday night featuring Pot and Sling, Squeeze Machine, Knot tying and more! Tickets for CHECC are £27 each so this trip will be more expensive than usual at £42. I'll be booking the tickets Thursday evening next week so dropping out after that point will be charged unless someone takes your place. *Info from the CHECC website:* "This year CHECC will take place at Parkwood outdoors (Dolygaer), we will have access to the Lodge which will be our main indoor space with 44 beds and 2 communal spaces. Wales 2 - SPACES

Hi all, I've just had three people drop out of this weekend's trip to Wales so there are now spaces on the bus! These spaces are not fresher specific but I will prioritise first time cavers. Trip information below, email me if you want to go :) Hope some of you can come! Jennifer *Trip Logistics* On Friday, we'll be meeting in caving stores at 5 pm. We'll pack the minibus with all of our stuff and then head off to Wales with a stop at a supermarket to buy the food for the weekend. There'll probably be food cooked when we arrive at the hut but it may be quite late (~10-11 pm) so you might want to bring some snacks for the bus or buy them at the shop when we stop. We'll be in Wales for the weekend, caving on Saturday and Sunday and then driving back to London to hopefully be in South Ken by ~10 pm. *Dietary/Medical Issues* If you have any dietary requirements or medical issues, please let me know either in person or by emailing ic.caving(a)gmail.com (all the food we cook will be vegetarian). Nut allergies are particularly important as a lot of our food for in the caves contains nuts. *What to bring* You don't need to bring much in the way of specialist kit - we'll lend you all the stuff you need to wear in the cave. Bring enough general clothes to wear on the weekend (including a warm jumper/jacket/coat), toiletries and a towel in case you get wet/want to shower. Spare underwear is also a good idea in case of getting wet. You'll also need a sleeping bag. We won't be camping but the place we stay has beds without duvets so we need to bring our own bedding. If you haven't got one, we have a few we can lend out but they aren't super clean and so it's probably best if you just pop to Decathlon (there's one in High Street Kensington) or somewhere similar to buy a cheap one before Friday. -- Imperial College Caving Club <http://union.ic.ac.uk/caving>

Yorkshire II - 29th to 1nd Dec It was great seeing all of you at the freshers' fair today! Hopefully we managed to convince you to go caving with us. This email is to give you a bit of info on how the club works and if you do want to sign up to any of our trips you’ll get more details about what they entail when you sign up. Tree Training We will be starting our weekly tree training sessions on Wednesday (2nd) from 1 - 5pm (roughly, we are often there until the light goes). This will take place in Princes Gardens - just look for people tangled in ropes in the trees! There’ll be lots of us there to discuss what we do on our weekend trips and just generally chat and answer any questions you have. We’ll be around all afternoon so feel free to come and leave any time – there may be a bit of a wait to get in the trees if everyone is there at the same time! Don’t worry though, there’ll be snacks to eat and caving games to play if there are a lot of you! The tree training will teach you how to use all the necessary caving equipment to go on our later trips involving rope techniques but is not necessary for our fresher's trips to Wales. Come along, there's no obligation to join the club or even go on a trip, just have fun chatting or climbing and abseiling in the (hopefully) sun! Check the Facebook for updates on the start time and if we are cancelling due to the weather. Pub social meetings As usual we will be meeting at the FiveSixEight or the Union bar from 6pm each Tuesday starting today, it’s a perfect chance to find out more about caving, our club, or sign up for trips. We normally have a muddy caving helmet so you can find us! Trips Our first trip of the year is NEXT WEEKEND (11th-13th Oct)! If you’re interested in coming on the trip you'll need to buy membership and then pay for the trip fee which will go live at 18:00 tomorrow here <https://www.imperialcollegeunion.org/activities/a-to-z/caving>. We'll then email you all the info needed for the trip and arrange for you to come down to caving stores to pack kit, directions to stores will be included.. Trips are every two weeks and the two fresher’s trips to Wales cost just £11 for new members. That includes all food, transport, equipment and accommodation. It may even be cheaper to go caving than staying at home! To come on any of our trips you’ll need to buy membership which is £26.
