Hello hello, It's time to start thinking about Winter Tour! *Overview* - From 15th - 22nd December - You don't have to attend the whole thing - SRT required - Very good value for money - E-mail to sign up *What is it?* Winter tour is a week spent caving in the Yorkshire Dales.This is a great way to practice your SRT in the best vertical caves the UK has to offer. There'll be 5-6 possible trips including the classic Gaping Gill which features the highest unbroken waterfall in the UK and a massive main chamber - a real must see! The tour is a great opportunity to put your advanced tree training to practice, and even learn to navigate your way through a cave. *Logistics* We will be staying at the Northern Pennine Club's Greenclose Cottage in North Yorkshire. If you haven't been then you'll be glad to know that there's a great kitchen, wood fire, warm showers, cosy bunk rooms, and a great drying room so you aren't caving in wet gear all week! We'll drive up on Saturday 15th December, aiming to leave as early as possible - likely around 12:00. The bus will be driving back sometime (~afternoon) on the 22nd December so you can hopefully all get back home in time for Christmas! *Transport* *Minibus *- There will be *12 spaces* in the 15 seater minibus, the rest of the space for all the rope, food and caving gear. Please get in touch if you would like a space there or back. *Train *- The closest train station is Clapham, North Yorkshire. The station is about 30 minutes walk away but if you arrive in the evening or early morning we can arrange to pick you up. *Train expenses are your own.* *Kit* You will need to bring a sleeping bag, kit will be packed the Tuesday before hand. Some things that come in handy will be some hiking boots, a synthetic (non-cotton) set of thermals/just a top and a buff or balaclava. I personally really like the Uniqlo Heattech thermals - there's a Uniqlo on High Street Ken where you can get a thermal top for ~£15. I use the extra warm one but there is also an ultrawarm one if you're an especially cold person! Chat to us in the bar on a Tuesday or email here for some more advice on what to buy. *Cost* Trip fee's are worked out per person, but the minibus costs will be split equally because we need it to bring all the gear to Yorkshire that everyone will be using. Previously the trip has cost *£90-£110 for the full week* and *£50-£60 for half a week* *Sign Up* If you want to sign up then please reply to this email. Yorkshire 3 Trip

Hey humans, Our next Yorkshire trip will be on the 30th-2nd November/December. If you want to come, please make sure you've been to Tree Training before you ask for a space! We'll be caving in the Penyghent area of the Yorkshire Daes and staying at the Craven caving hut in Horton-in-Ribblesdale which is next to a pub (woop). CHECC Forum

Hello hello, We managed to get a bigger bus for the CHECC weekend (23rd-25th Nov) so there are a few spaces left! If you missed the original email - here's some info. "The CHECC forum is basically a weekend where university caving clubs from around the UK meet up for lots of drinking, dancing and general socialising. There are also training sessions held on the Saturday and Sunday which can be really interesting and useful. There will be caving game competitions on the Saturday night featuring Pot and Sling, Squeeze Machine, Knot tying and more! There'll be some gentle caving but a lot of us plan to do training sessions instead, so think of this as more of a social weekend than a full on caving trip. This trip will cost more than a normal caving trip as we have to pay for tickets but the exact price is TBC. Let me know if you want to come as soon as you can so we have time to book tickets. Hey humans, *tldr;* *- COME TO TREE TRAINING every Weds 1-5 pm* *- Yorkshire II 16th-18th Nov* *- CHECC Forum (read: get drunk for a weekend) 23rd-25th Nov* *- Respond to this email if you wan't to come to either* *Yorkshire II* Our next Yorkshire trip will be on the weekend of the 16th-18th November. If you want to come, please make sure you've been to at least one Tree Training session before you ask for a space! You can sign up to the trip in person on Wednesday at tree training pr reply to this email and we'll let you know if you can come. As our previous trips have been so popular (i.e. oversubscribed), people who have been to tree training will take priority over those who haven't so make sure you come this Wednesday. Spaces won't be allocated until after tree training on Wednesday so don't be too worried if you haven't been before. *CHECC Forum * *Just a heads up - this is not a trip! If you want to go caving, come to one of our Yorkshire trips!* CHECC = The Council of Higher Education Caving Clubs The CHECC forum is basically a weekend where university caving clubs from around the UK meet up for lots of drinking, dancing and general socialising. Halloween Climbing Social

Hey cavers, We're heading to HarroWall this Friday from 6pm for some climbing in fancy dress! It's £5 entry if you dress up and they even have a fake cave which we can crawl around in. What's not to love? We'll be ending the night at The Slug in Fulham, aiming to leave from Harrow around 8ish so we might actually get in this time. Hello Cavers, *tldr;* *- Trip to Yorkshire 2nd-4th November (£37)* *- You need to come to tree training if you want to go on the trip* *- Email to ask for a place before buying the trip fee* *- Join our Facebook group <https://www.facebook.com/groups/imperialcaving/>* Our next trip is to Yorkshire! We'll be leaving on Friday 2nd November and getting back late on the Sunday. *Tree Training* If you want to come on this trip, or any of our trips to Yorkshire or Derbyshire, you'll need to come along to tree training to learn how to use ropes in the caves! We'll be in Princes' Gardens on Wednesdays from 1-5 pm to teach you all you need to know. *Yorkshire* "North Yorkshire is the classic caving region in Britain for vertical caving, including probably the most famous cave entrance Gaping Gill a massive 110m shaft. The rugged beauty of the moors provides a stunning backdrop to an enormous choice of exciting potholes. A favourite with existing members for practising rope skills." *The Trip* The trip will cost £37 and this covers all accommodation, travel, equipment hire and food for the weekend! If you haven't already bought membership for the club, you'll also need to buy that on the union shop before you can purchase the trip fee. We'll set off in one of the union minibuses after lectures on Friday and stop at a supermarket to buy food and booze for the weekend. The drive is long but there'll be bangin' tunes and good company to make the time fly. We'll be staying at a caving hut (a cottage for cavers) in North Yorkshire. The caving cottages have bunk rooms, toilets, a kitchen and showers, as well as somewhere to dry your caving kit. The caving will be in an area called Kingsdale which has lots of caves that are perfect to ease you into using SRT (Single Rope Techniques) underground. There'll also be caving games and other exciting things! Hopefully we managed to convince you to come caving with us. This email is to give you a bit of info on how the club works and if you do want to sign up to any of our trips you’ll get more details about what they entail when you sign up. *COMING UP THIS WEEK* *Tree Training* We will be starting our weekly tree training sessions on Wednesday (3rd) from 12-5pm. This will take place in Princes Gardens - just look for people tangled in ropes in the trees! There’ll be lots of us there to discuss what we do on our weekend trips and just generally chat and answer any questions you have. We’ll be around all afternoon so feel free to come and leave any time – there may be a bit of a wait to get in the trees if everyone is there at the same time! Don’t worry though, there’ll be snacks to eat and caving games to play if there are a lot of you! The tree training will teach you how to use all the necessary caving equipment to go on our later trips involving rope techniques but is not necessary for our fresher's trips to Wales. Come along, there's no obligation to join the club or even go on a trip, just have fun chatting or climbing and abseiling in the (hopefully) sun! *Wales I Sign Ups* Our first trip of the year is THIS WEEKEND (5th-7th Oct)! If you’re interested in coming on the trip you'll need to buy membership here <https://www.imperialcollegeunion.org/activities/a-to-z/caving> and then pay for the trip fee (called W1 5th-7th Fresher's). Once you've done this, please come and see us at tree training so you can pack kit or email ic.caving(a)gmail.com to let us know if you can't make it on Wednesday. We'll then give you all the info needed for the trip and arrange for you to come down to caving stores to pack kit before Friday. *GENERAL STUFF* *Pub social meetings* As usual we will be meeting at the FiveSixEight bar from 6pm each Tuesday starting today, it’s a perfect chance to find out more about caving, our club, or sign up for trips. We normally have a muddy caving helmet so you can find us! *Trips* Trips are every two weeks and the two fresher’s trips to Wales cost just £11 for new members. That includes all food, transport, equipment and accommodation. It may even be cheaper to go caving than staying at home. To come on any of our trips you’ll need to buy membership which is £25.
