Station Technical Updates

Hi Radio Folks, A brief message from your Technical Manager! I've recently implemented a few changes, such as: 1. Changing the live streaming system to make it easier to listen to shows on air. 2. Several people have missed shows lately (or been affected by the recent power cut). If this includes you please use the new "Request Show Deletion" module in the members area to submit a show episode and a reason. If approved this should be dealt with within a few days. 3. Sustain does occasionally have tantrums, so if you see any problems please feel free to email me at "technical(a)icradio.com". These problems can often be easily fixed remotely. Some important updates below: Power-cut and keycard access There's a power cut tomorrow morning across Beit Quad from 10 am to 11:30 am - if this affects your show and you would like a once-off rescheduling to later in the day or over the weekend, let me know! Apologies for not letting you know sooner! Anyone who asked for early-morning/late-night access, this should be now active for you, as is the keycard attached to our key. Let me know if you have any difficulties! DJ kit to rent If you know of anyone looking for a DJ/DJ equipment for a party or event, email our Disco Manager Gio at discos(a)icradio.com. We've got some awesome new speakers and all the gear and plenty of DJs at very reasonable prices, all to be advertised by Head of Promotions Alex soon! RBS Youtube Video I've been bopping around the past few days with a camera filming your antics for this. ICU Cinema The lads over at ICU Cinema are still looking for radio people to throw them a playlist or short 10-20 minute segments to play as people take their seats before the films. Items we discussed as follow: Lifts will be grounded – please ensure notices are used and students informed that they cannot use lifts for 09.30 to 11.30 hours. I understand that you will be making arrangements for mobility impaired students to remain outside of the building. Hot and cold water – will not be available, therefore any showers should be completed by 09.00 hours, any abolitions involving the toilet facilities should be completed by 09.30 too. Please ensure that students understand that water taps must be closed and toilets cannot be flushed between these times. Heating – will be affected during this period, however this complies with the agreed Winter period space heating requirements. Laundry Facilities – Not to be used after 09.30 hours. All power will cease – therefore all electrical sockets will not function for lamps, PC’s, electrical appliances, fridges/freezers (please ensure the latter items doors are kept shut in order to maintain the cold temperatures required for food storage). Lighting - will not function other than emergency lighting, therefore the lighting levels will be very low. I would encourage students and occupants not to move around the halls and either depart by 09.30 or stay in their rooms. Kitchens – will be out of bounds for students, however Resource have agreed via Philip Warden to allow the cleaning staff access to clear kitchens and rubbish only, all staff must be briefed regarding the conditions they are working in for this period of time. If there are any concerns then these must be risk assessed by Resource in liaison with ourselves. Access control and the Fire Panel – will be maintained throughout. Jingle boogie

Dear Radio Lovers, Don't excuse the pun, it was wicked. As Aislinn said in her beautifully coloured email, I will be running more jingle sessions in order for you to: * Record some beds which you can talk over and put these up on the touchscreen (so much easier than fiddling with a CD) * Record top-quality (yes we will aim high) jingles that can be played when sustain is on and ones you may just want to play on your show. * Be the voice behind the new,flagship "You're listening to ICRadio" jingle. If you are feeling brave enough.. Bring sound effects, ideas, CDs, ipods, willing friends who have cool accents and anything imaginative you can find (a mandolin!?). Regarding time, just email me and we will set a time to meet in small groups; it is a bit of a mess getting everyone to record at the same time. Hey everyone! Hope you are all having a lovely term! Here are a few updates from your fave/only student radio station: RBS Youtube Video We want to make a YouTube video showcasing IC Radio's activities/facilities to enter into the RBS ESSA Awards (chance to win some moneyyy!). If you want to get involved in the video making feel free to get in touch - I'm probably going to be bopping around the studio with a camera every once in a while. Another idea was to shoot a fake music video, something packed with 80s cheese and smoke machines would be exciting. If you have any ideas let me know! IC Sessions As you may have seen on the Speedybox, our members George and Max are hosting a weekly "live-lounge" every Monday evening at the station. If you'd like to head down to help with production or learn how to plug in cables like a pro, email Max at mlh11(a)ic.ac.uk or just pop down! Student Radio Conference The National Student Radio Conference is being held this year in Leicester at Demon FM, between the 2nd and 4th of April. We have a little bit of grant that we can subsidise the tickets, full-priced conference ticket is £130 (this includes accommodation, breakfast lunch and dinner, and transport to and from the hotel). Let me know if you're thinking about going so that we can get a list of names together and work on subsidisation :) Social/AGM Your committee is busy planning a big social sometime in mid to late Feb. We're emailing some London radio stations to see about getting a tour, LaserQuest is being researched, and pub pub pub is a must. We'll also be having the AGM later in the term, another Beer&Biscuits style event, so stay tuned for details on that. After-hours studio access & show scheduling Anyone needing early morning/post-11pm access to the studio for shows, email me with your CID and I'll request access on your keycards with the Union. Also on shows, make sure you schedule your show in advance so that there's no confusion when people head to the station during an empty slot. Jingles and Radio Masterclass Assistant Station Manager Ronan will be heading up another jingles workshop this term, and we'll be having a refresher course on equipment and how to speak properly into the mikes etc too. Technical update

Hi all! You may or may not have noticed that the website and members area are currently down. Our Technical Manager, Joe, is in the middle of exams at the moment but he said that he'll be able to start working on getting it back up and running by tomorrow afternoon at the earliest. Apologies to those whose shows are affected, we'll keep you updated! Anyway, hope this term is going well for everyone! Your committee is busy working on next year's budget and a few other Union-related activities. If you were wondering about the whiteboard "if you had all the money in the world what would you buy for the station etc" business, the Union is planning a major renovation of the West and East Basements, and have asked us to submit some ideas about improving the media services, so we're working on the most outrageous requests that we can. If you have any ideas or want to contribute at all or get involved, feel free to come along to our committee meeting this Monday at the station at 12pm. Later on this term we'll be having the AGM and elections for next year's committee, so if this is something you might be interested in, feel free to email me with any questions or just come along! Hey radio lovers! Deadlines, coursework, exams - party it all off with the Croc at the radio social this Friday night at the Earl of Lonsdale pub, Portobello Road from 7pm!
