Dear radio people, I bring good news! As of this morning show recordings are back in action (fingers crossed). Also, it seems that due to a time difference in our temporary servers people's shows have been scheduled for the wrong slots. This has now been fixed, however please check the schedules to see if it has happened to you. If so, please drop an email to either programming(a)icradio.com or technical(a)icradio.com if you can't cancel your show request and schedule a new broadcast. Dear Radio Members, 1. I've managed to revive a temporary members area (with occasional down time) which can be found at http://www.icradio.com/members . Please note this is not SSL encrypted so unless you use enterprise level password protected wifi (I.e. At college) or log in the college VPN, aspiring hackers could packet sniff for your login details. So don't log on in coffee shops :) Some features might not work (e.g. Speedybox) and show recording is still unavailable but we're slowly getting back to business. 2. We have a phone line! (plus, wanna get to know Alice a bit better?)

Hey y'all, Yes, we have a phone line again! The number's 08451546812 (catchy, huh?) and we might get another one if I find more excuse to procrastinate from my exams. Currently you can only phone into it, but there's a chance we might be able to get some funding for call-outs if enough people want to (and once we've drawn up a set of rules that precludes prank calls to the Royal Family...) If you're one of the cool kinds of people to know how to use it already, it's mapped to the second telco module (last channel on Alice). However, I appreciate most of you won't, so just hold up for a month or so. This is long notice, I know, but once my exams are finished (mid-June) I'm planning to run a trial "Advanced Alice" training workshop for anyone who's interested (maybe spread over a couple of afternoons, maybe just one). Things I'd like to cover include: - recording a show onto Minidisc - using the interview room mics/headphones and monitoring through there - talkback between different studios - monitoring your levels correctly and efficiently etc - how to use the phone lines - how to delay your entire show (like have the whole show 10-20 seconds behind live) and be able to 'dump' to live if someone breaks broadcasting rules. Almost essential if you're going to have phone-ins where people aren't necessarily going to play by the rules and might swear/say something offensive/racist/blah. - creating separate recording or aux mixes - and, probably separately, how to use Rivendell (the touch-screen interface) and set up all your playlists on there to fade-in/out automatically, set up your own jingles etc :) I'd quite like this to be standard fare next year for everyone wanting to run a show (partly so people know how the desk works if something's wrong). Would anyone be interested in coming along to this in the last week of term or thereabouts, so I can see how the format works etc? Or indeed, if anyone knows Alice well (oo-err) then would anyone be interested in helping out? Lastly, sorry again about all the current hoo-hah with servers. We're working on getting new servers, but we anticipate that'll take about a month and a half (when my exams finish, in June) because we need to write documents to apply for funding and spend at least a weekend configuring everything, which none of us have at the moment. Meanwhile, we might try and get automatic show recording happening sooner, but please just hang on in there (and please *don't *bring drinks into the studio - it's really easy to leave them outside in the entrance and have a sip between songs - we can't afford to replace anything else!) We're back!

Hi everyone, The station is back broadcasting! Much much thanks to Joe for getting a solution worked out. However: Whilst we can broadcast, if you look at the site you can see that that's about all it does. This means the members area is down including the scheduling and playlist submission sections. Also down is the listen back and recording features. If you want to do a show, you must email your show playlist to icr(a)imperial.ac.uk<mailto:icr@imperial.ac.uk> with 'Playlist' in the subject. We have to submit playlists to the regulator by law. It is so that the artists whose music we play get their fair share of our license fee. Please don't forget. The easiest way is to write it up as you do the show then email it from the studio machine. Unfortunately the site will stay as it is for the next month at least. We are currently in the state of procuring a new server system, but you can imagine this takes time to get funding for and install especially with exam time. The good news is that when it is fixed we'll have brand new computers and much less down time! Don't forget to vote for our new Head of Music. Hey all! Hope you all had a very decent Easter and exams aren't keepin ya down! As Head of Music, I would be able to widen IC Radio's potential audience and I also have some great ideas to perhaps introduce more social events and club nights to attract more students to our society. All in all, I think I would be a great Head of Music if given the opportunity. Thank You. Ronan McAdam: My passion for music was the main reason for joining ICRadio. During my first year, I hosted the Rock n Roll Happy Hour. Each week I would capture the spirit of the 50s, 60s or 70s to reach out to an audience that were unfamiliar with the music. To prepare, I would sort through thirty years of ever-changing music and genres to pick out the best. I loved, and still do love, finding out the stories behind the music, seeing the changes throughout the years and bringing it to an audience. As Assistant Station Manager during my second year, I became familiar and confident with sustain, Rivendell and the station as a whole. The main task of the Head of Music is to listen to all the cd’s that ICRadio receive, catalogue songs and update sustain. Far from finding them tedious, I would hugely enjoy all of these tasks. Above all, I want to increase the amount of listeners that we have and this task does not belong to head of promotions alone, but to everyone at ICRadio. Having zero listeners for most of the day and sustain playing out songs on repeat is a huge waste of resources and opportunity. I would play my part by uploading themed playlists for slots during which nobody is on air; rave music late on Friday night, a cheeky bit of funk/disco to get people moving on a Saturday evening? There is so much more music we could and should be sharing and we have plenty of free airtime to do it. Let’s use our resources as well as we can, attract more listeners and, something which is close to my heart, play that funky music. Andy Moore: I'm Andy, I run Your Neighbours Will Love This on Mondays at lunchtimes. If you haven't heard it, we basically mix a variety of dance music depending on our moods and tastes from the last week and hope that people listen in! I've loved running a radio show over the last 2 years and definitely want to keep it up and get more involved. The main thing I want to do is run a show playing exclusively tracks from the post that comes to the studio. It sounds like a lot of fun and it would show labels that we are grateful for their contributions as well as giving the audience a truly up-and-coming set of tunes! I'd try to have a look through sustain and weed out the shit nobody wants as well as seeing about the possibility of monitoring the genres/tags so that music of a similar type plays within say, an hour slot. In terms of the music that's already in the studio, I agree that we should digitalise the catalogue for ease of access. Might be a bit of work but surely the kind of thing I can do whilst half watching TV. Eamonn Postlethwaite: My name is Eamonn and I’d like to put myself forward for Head of Music for ICRadio because I love it to bits and would like to offer something back to such a friendly and enthusiastic society. I am only a measly first year but notwithstanding illness/exams I have broadcast every Monday since the beginning of the year and have grown to love being down in the radio suite, so having to spend time down there in a more official capacity won’t be a problem. I would resurrect the music blog on the website and use my position to blag free tickets/samplers for as much music as possible and fill it with reviews [from me and anyone who is interested] of gigs, albums, singles, or anything anyone has a radio-based interest in. IC Radio Technical Troubles

Dear Radio members, I hope you've had a lovely Easter vacation and had plenty of enjoyable revising. Unfortunately as of Sunday morning our web server Firestar has ceased to function due to power supply/voltage regulator issues. Please be aware that this means that both the website (including the listen again feature) and the live streaming capability are out of action in the near future. It may be possible to have a hacked together system running in the next few days and as always I will be working on finding a solution as will the rest of the technical team. I will keep you updated on the situation over the coming days, however if you have any questions you can reach me at technical(a)icradio.com.
