Dear Users, See below an opportunity to communicate Science via your beautiful images. Deadline for application: 27th of May. Cheers Debbi Dear Prof. Magee and Dr. Keller, Being aware of the activity related to microscopy at FILM, I would like to introduce an initiative that the users of your facilities could find interesting. Due to 2015 being the International Year of Light, Heriot-Watt University is organising Spot-On-Micro, a new micrograph image contest that aims to create spaces for sharing microscopy images and the science and art behind them via public exhibition. The main target is to use the images as a powerful resource to share Science with the general public and raise awareness of the importance of research in such small universes. For this, a selection of the best images will be publicly exhibited. If you, or anybody in your institution, have artistic micrographs obtained through any microscopy technique, don't hesitate to submit them to win cash awards and publicise your research. The contest has the following awards: 1st Award: £250 2nd Award: £150 3rd Award: £100 People's Award: £200 The period for submission of images is now open until the 27th May 2015. Entries can be submitted at: www.spot-on-micro.eps.hw.ac.uk<http://www.spot-on-micro.eps.hw.ac.uk> The participation is open to any UK resident for work carried out in the national territory. The requisites for the images and accompanying texts can be found on the webpage. The Respiratory Biomedical Research Unit (RBRU) Histopathology Core Facility (HCF) is equipped to provide a histology service for researchers and students alike, who are looking into the aetiology, diagnosis, prevention and/or treatment of various diseases relating to the respiratory system. Working with the Biobank team, researchers are able to access the diagnostic tissue archive which contains a broad range of lung pathology samples that may be used for their research. In-house consultants specialising in lung pathology are also available to provide their expert advice and knowledge at various stages of research such as the interpretation of results and the selection of the most appropriate samples to be used in relation to the research project. Dear users, The Nikon Small World Competition is open again (closing Friday May 1st), so if you have any beautiful images that you want to share to the world (and we know you have beautiful images) don't hesitate! The images don't need to be taken on a Nikon!! You can enter up to 3 images or videos in each competition.
