Dear Users, We are happy to announce that the registration for the 2nd NEUBIAS conference in Szeged, Hungary, 27th of January to 2nd of February 2018 is open. NEUBIAS is a COST Action which brings together life-scientists, microscopists, image analysts and developers from 34 European, neighboring countries + Australia, Singapore and the USA (www.neubias.org<https://emea01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.neubi…>). NEUBIAS is a forum to exchange the newest findings, applications, and cutting-edge developments in Bioimage Analysis, machine learning, data mining, and storage. European Bioimage Analysts, an emergent group within the bioimaging analysis community, organize this event, bringing together an international, interdisciplinary community of scientists in life and computer sciences. Peter Horvath will be hosting the conference in Szeged, which will include a Training School for Early Career Investigators, a Training School for Bioimage Analysts, a Taggathon to build online resources for the Bioimage Analysis Community and the Bioimage Analysis Symposium from 31st of January to the 2nd of February. The symposium will highlight Keynote speeches from Gaudenz Danuser, Marleen de Bruijne, and Gene Meyers and will include talks from other 14 exciting invited speakers. Also, contributed talks will be selected from abstracts. The NEUBIAS symposium will feature signature sessions: the Call for Help or "image clinics" session (C4H), the Open source Software Lounge (OsSL), panel discussions as well as company workshops. There is an old microscope in SAF which is going to be disposed of. It is an approx.20 years old Leica TCS NT confocal microscope I would think the confocal part is now completely obsolete but the microscope itself or other parts might be useful. Please let Gill Martin g.martin(a)imperial.ac.uk<mailto:g.martin@imperial.ac.uk> know if you are interested, she is back on October 2nd and the microscope will be disposed of shortly afterwards. Please not that this is not a FILM microscope and we cannot assist with setting up or maintaining this equipment. The work will be based on imaging data already available in the host lab coming from cells having multiple random insertions of gene arrays or from CRISPR-edited cell lines with tagged loci at specific genomic positions. In close collaboration with the Heard lab at Institut Curie, our goal is to investigate the multiscale, dynamic architecture of the genome and its relationship to gene regulation, in particular in the context of the inactivation of the X chromosome. A specific focus will be on deciphering the contribution of out-equilibrium processes to chromosome dynamics. Requirements: Applicants are expected to have a training in (bio)physics with a strong background in computational tools (Matlab or equivalent) and a pronounced interested in research at the interface between physics and biology.
