Hi guys, We have two great films for you this week, in fact my two favorite films of the summer: "Hero" and "The Motorcycle diaries". Then next week we have a special treat our All-Nighter which will take place from 18:00 on Tuesday 14th of December till 07:17 on Wednesday 15th of December, see the bottom of the email for a full lineup. Qin, the king of the northern province, is under permanent threat of assassination attempts. His greatest fears are the warriors "Broken Sword", "Flying Snow" and "Sky". One day one of the magistrates of his kingdom enters the palace, claims that he defeated all three of the emperor's adversaries and tells his story; how he beat "Sky" in a duel and used the love between "Broken Sword" and "Flying Snow" to subdue them. The Motorcycle Diaries: The Motorcycle Diaries is an adaptation of a journal written by Ernesto "Che" Guevara (Bernal) when he was 23 years old. He and his friend, Alberto Granado (de la Serna) are typical college students who, seeking fun and adventure before graduation, decide to travel across Argentina, Chile, Brazil and Peru in order to do their medical residency at a leper colony. Beginning as a buddy/road movie in which Ernesto and Alberto are looking for chicks, fun and adventure before they must grow up and have a more serious life. As is said in the film itself, it's about "two lives running parallel for a while." The two best friends start off with the same goals and aspirations, but by the time the film is over, it's clear what each man's destiny has become. Hi guys, We have another two films for your viewing pleasure this week. "The Chronicles of Riddick" and "The Terminal". Tue, 23 Nov 18:00 - The Terminal Tue, 23 Nov 20:45 - The Chronicles of Riddick Thu, 25 Nov 18:00 - The Chronicles of Riddick Thu, 25 Nov 20:45 - The Terminal And here are the obligatory descriptions: The Terminal Viktor Navorski, a man from an Eastern European country arrives in New York but after he left his country; war broke out and because of that Navorski is a man without a country that the U.S. can recognize, thus he is denied entrance to the U.S. However, he also can't be deported so he is told by the Security Manager that he has to remain in the airport until his status can be fixed. And also Navorski doesn't speak English well, so no one can talk to him and he can't talk to anyone. But he somehow adapts and sets up residence in the airport, which makes the man who placed him there unhappy cause, it seems he is line for a promotion but Navroski's presence might complicate that. So he tries to get Navorski to leave but Navorski remains where he is. Navorski makes friends with some of the people who work in the airport and is attracted to a flight attendant he runs into whenever she comes in. The Chronicles of Riddick Riddick, now a hunted man, finds himself in the middle of two opposing forces in a major crusade. Colm Feore plays Lord Marshal, a warrior priest who is the leader of a sect that is waging the tenth and perhaps final crusade 500 years in the future. Judi Dench is Aereon, an ambassador from the Elemental race. She is an ethereal being who helps Riddick unearth his origins. After this week we have 1 week off as Dramsoc are using the concert hall for a play... And then we will hopefully having an independent film week with my two favorite films of the summer "Hero" and "The Motorcycle Diaries" which are both incredibly good films. Also as ever we will be having our customary all-nighter at the end of term. Hi guys, We have two very different films for you this week, Dodgeball and The Village. The first thing I have to do is warn you all that the first two showings are on Monday this week and not Tuesday. The second is to tell you that unfortunately for the first two weeks of November there will be no showings as the concert hall is being used by other people. Without further delay here is our timetable for this week: Mon, 25 Oct 18:00 - Dodgeball: A true underdog story Mon, 25 Oct 20:15 - The Village Thu, 28 Oct 18:00 - The Village Thu, 28 Oct 20:30 - Dodgeball: A true underdog story And here are some descriptions for those who what them: The Village: The latest film by M. Night Shymalan (Sixth Sense) In a quiet, isolated village in old Pennsylvania, there lies a pact between the people of the village and the creatures who reside in the surrounding woods: the townspeople do not enter the woods, and the creatures do not enter the village. The pact stays true for many years, but when Lucius Hunt seeks medical supplies from the towns beyond the wood, the pact is challenged. Animal carcasses, devoid of fur, begin to appear around the village, causing the council of elders to fear for the safety of the village, the pact, and so much more. Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story: Peter LaFleur is a charismatic underachiever and proprietor of a rundown gym called Average Joe's. The facility's eclectic clientele of decidedly less-than-average Joes is comprised of: a self-styled pirate; a scrawny nerd who dreams of impressing an unattainable cheerleader; an obsessive aficionado of obscure sports; a dim-witted young man; and a cocky know-it-all who, of course, really knows nothing. Peter's humble gym catches the eye of White Goodman, the power-mullet-sporting, Fu-Manchu-d, egomaniacal owner of Globo Gym, a gleaming monolith of fitness. White intends to take over Average Joe's, and Peter's non-existent bookkeeping is making it all too easy for him. A foreclosing bank has stationed attorney Kate Veatch inside Average Joe's to finalize Globo's takeover of the gym. But Peter's boyish charms win her over and Kate joins his team of social rejects to beat the odds--and their own ineptitude--to try to save Average Joe's. How? Hi guys, We have two great films for you this week, Fahrenheit 9/11 and The Bourne Supremacy. Times and dates are as follows: Tue, 19 Oct 18:00 - Fahrenheit 9/11 Tue, 19 Oct 20:45 - The Bourne Supremacy Thu, 21 Oct 18:00 - The Bourne Supremacy Thu, 21 Oct 20:30 - Fahrenheit 9/11 Here are some discriptions for you who do not know what these films are about: Fahrenheit 9/11 Michael Moore's famous (or should that be infamous) documentary probing into what happened in America after the September the 11th tragedy. Michael Moore takes a very anti-Bush viewpoint in this film and exposes many little known facts about the Bush Administration. The Bourne Supremacy Jason Bourne is back. After melting into the background at the end of The Bourne Identity he is a wanted man after being framed for an assanation attempt. When his girlfriend is killed he goes on a rampage to find those responsible. That is it for this week folks but next week we will have Dodgeball and The Village for your viewing pleasure. Hi guys, Welcome to all the freshers and the other new subscribers to the list. We have a great schedule lined up for you this term. This week we have Spiderman 2 and Shrek 2. The times and dates are as follows: Tuesday 12/10/04 18:00 Spiderman 2 Tuesday 12/10/04 20:45 Shrek 2 Thursday 14/10/04 18:00 Shrek 2 Thursday 14/10/04 20:15 Spiderman 2 I'm not sure if either of these films need a description but for those of you that need one here they are: Spiderman 2 Peter Parker (Tobey McGuire) can't seem to catch any kind of break. Being Spiderman has brought him nothing but problems as far as his personal life is concerned. Not only that, Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) is engaged to astronaut John Jameson, and Peter may lose her forever. Things are so bad for him that he is pushed past his breaking point, so he decides that he doesn't want to be Spiderman anymore, until a freak accident transforms Dr. Otto Octavius into Dr. Octopus, a super-villain with four metal tentacles coming out of him. Peter realizes that only Spiderman can stop him, but of course, problems arise. Mary Jane gets caught in the middle, and Harry Osborn, who still blames Spiderman for the death of his father, Norman Osborn, also the Green Goblin, wants him dead. Spiderman will have to push himself past his limits if he's going to survive. Shrek 2 Right after their honeymoon the newly wed couple goes to Princess Fiona's parents for dinner. When a Fairy God Mother discovers Fiona and Shrek are married she reminds the king about a deal they agreed on years ago that Fiona should have married Prince Charming (her son). The king then hires a cat named Puss-in-Boots (a sword fighting cat and ogre slayer) to kill Shrek. Hi Guys, We are nearing the end of term and you must all know what that means, yes it is the famous (or should that be infamous) iCU Cinema All Nighter. As usual we have a total of six films for your viewing pleasure on Tuesday Night/Wednesday Morning. The lineup is as follows: 18:00 - Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 20:30 - Taking Lives 22:30 - Kill Bill: Vol. 2 01:00 - The Station Agent 02:45 - Secret Window 04:45 - Van Helsing Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Joel (Jim Carrey) is stunned to discover that his girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) has had her memories of their tumultuous relationship erased. Out of desperation, he contracts the inventor of the process, Dr. Howard Mierzwaik (Tom Wilkinson), to have Clementine removed from his own memory. But as Joel's memories progressively disappear, he begins to rediscover their earlier passion. From deep within the recesses of his brain, Joel attempts to escape the procedure. As Dr. Mierzwiak and his crew (Kristen Dunst, Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood) chase him through the maze of his memories, it's clear that Joel just can't get her out of his head. Taking Lives A successful FBI profiler, Illeana Scott (Jolie), is summoned to help out Canadian law enforcement in Montreal, to hunt down a serial killer who assumes the lives and identities (hence the title) of the people he kills as he travels across North America, which forces Illeana to adjust to working in a strange city with a police team with which she doesn't really fit in with. (Ethan Hawke plays a museum employee "deputized" into acting as bait to lure the killer into a trap.) Kill Bill: Volume 2 There were five on her list. Now it's three. O-Ren Ishii and Vernita Green were the first to fall, now The Bride (Uma Thurman) is out to finish the job by killing Elle Driver, Budd, and last of all, Bill (David Carradine). If the final three aren't afraid now, they better start, because she's coming for them. However, something has thrown off her plans a bit. Her daughter (whom she was pregnant with as she was getting married) is still alive. What affect this will have on her quest for vengeance is unclear, but the question is, will The Bride have actually succeeded in completing her ultimate goal, to kill Bill? The Station Agent When his only friend and co-worker dies, a young man born with dwarfism moves to an abandoned train depot in rural New Jersey. Though he tried to maintain a life of solitude, he is soon entangled with an artist who is struggling with a personal tragedy and an overly-friendly Cuban hot dog vendor. Secret Window Mort Rainey(Johnny Depp), a successful author, is passing through a hard period in his life. After catching his wife sleeping with another man, he divorces and moves away from the city to somewhere in the country. One day a man appears at his door, presenting himself as John Shooter, and accuses Mort of copying a story from him. Although Mort believes things can be solved once he shows Shooter the original version, which had appeared two years before Shooter's version [Shooter wrote his in 1997. Rainey's was published in early 1995.], he can't seem to be able to get an original copy in the time limit set by Shooter. Strange things start happening which prevent him from receiving the needed original and Mort tries to find out who Shooter really is and if he is responsible for the things which happen. Van Helsing During the late 19th century, famed monster hunter Dr. Gabriel Van Helsing (Jackman) heads to Eastern Europe to battle with Count Dracula (Roxburgh), the Wolf Man (Kemp), and Frankenstein's Monster (Hensley). By his side is the ravishing Anna (Beckinsale), a member of a family committed to ridding the world of evil. This week we have Starsky & Hutch and 50 First Dates for your viewing pleasure. Then it's All-Nighter time (oh, and the last week of term...) We've fixed the times of all the films and they are posted below. Films will be Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Taking Lives, Kill Bill: Vol. 2, The Station Agent, Secret Window, and Van Helsing. Tickets are sold on the door (about 15mins. before) and will cost £3 for 1, £5 for 2, £7 for 3 and £10 for 4-6. Starsky & Hutch is a movie based on the TV series of the same name. Set in the 1970s in a metropolis called "Bay City," this is the tale of two police detective partners, Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson (Owen Wilson), and Dave Starsky (Ben Stiller), who always seem to get the toughest cases from their boss, Captain Dobey, rely on omniscient street informer Huggy Bear (Snoop Dogg) and race to the scene of the crimes in their souped-up 1974 Ford Torino hot rod. This story tells the story of their first big case (as a prequel to the TV show), which involved a former college campus drug dealer (Vince Vaughn) who went on to become a white collar criminal. --imdb In 50 First Dates Henry Roth (Adam Sandler) is a veterinarian living in Hawaii who enjoys the company of vacationing women. He leaves the playboy life behind after he falls for Lucy (Drew Barrymore), who suffers from short-term memory loss. Hi everyone This week is the Week of the Dead (or Undead, rather). Tuesday, 08 June 18:00 - Dawn of the Dead 20:15 - Shaun of the Dead Thursday, 10 June 18:00 - Shaun of the Dead 20:15 - Dawn of the Dead The first, Dawn of the Dead, is a remake of the 1978 George A. Romero classic, and a "straight" Zombie film. A young female nurse, named Anna, is caught in the middle of a world-wide chaos as flesh-eating zombies begin rising up and taking over the world and attacking the living. She escapes into the streets and is rescued by a black police officer, named Kenneth. Together they find shelter in a mall along with a group of other survivors. For a while everything is ok, but pretty soon, they start running out of food, the power goes out, and the dead keep finding ways to break through their defenses. Realizing they're sitting ducks, they make a plan to head for an island by using two armored mall shuttle buses to get across the sea of zombies. (imdb) Shaun of the Dead is a romantic-zombie-comedy from the UK, and as you can guess, not quite so serious as Dawn of the Dead. Shaun (Simon Pegg) is your below average thirty something who it seems has no real goal in life. Lacking any real ambition. He drives his long suffering girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield) around the bend. He seems to pay more attention to his fellow loser pals and housemates Ed (Nick Frost)and Pete (Peter Serafinowicz). Other than his basic faults. Shaun is other wise a decent enough sort. But soon realises how much Liz means to him when with out warning. The undead begin to walk the earth (or to shorten it down, Crouch End in London). Now it's a race against time for Shaun to not only spring to the rescue of the girl he loves. But his dear sweet Mum as well. After watching this. You'll never look at 'Dawn of the Dead' the same way again. (imdb) As you can see, 2 films that complement each other. Also, don't forget next week, and our All-Nighter in the final week of term.
