Re: EU Behavioural interventions proposal: admin request
Hello Krystle Thank you for your email. I’m sorry I don’t have a complete answer for you at the moment. The proposal is still in its very early draft and input from partners has yet to be defined, particularly because the team is still working out what interventions are suitable and who might be able to run these. I think the aim is to circulate a draft proposal before the Consortium’s next meeting on 10 March, although I appreciate that may be too late for your budget deadlines. Is this sufficient on the aim of the project? Please note – this is very much a draft and the wording is likely to change as the proposal develops. “Z-HEALTH — Health in the Digital Generation — is a multi-country Research and Innovation Action that will evaluate, at scale and across diverse European contexts, the effectiveness of evidence-based behavioural interventions for preventing and reducing the burden of obesity, mental health diseases, and addictions in young people aged 12 to 25. It does so by targeting the shared modifiable causal pathway — the digital habit-formation process — through a pre-specified architecture of four complementary intervention families. Interventions enter at different points in this causal chain, constituting four complementary families: (G1) Exposure shaping — preventing habit formation by reducing harmful digital cues (defaults, marketing restrictions); (G2) Friction and interruption — slowing automatic repetition through speed bumps (quiet hours, age gates, cool-off periods); (G3) Agency scaffolding — rebuilding routines via self-regulation supports and feedback (wearables, goal-setting, commitment devices); (G4) Identity and norm stabilisation — locking in gains through peer norms, co-created identities and autonomy-framed inoculation. No single family is sufficient. Z-HEALTH will be the first project to implement all four families simultaneously within the same theoretical framework, across multiple countries and NCD domains.” I’m copying in my colleagues in case they can provide further detail. Sorry not to be of more help here. Giulia, together with Heather, is indeed the right person in case you need support for the administrative aspects. Just let me clarify few general points: * if you confirm the PIC provided by ICL (999437561) no need to provide further administrative documents as you are already registered on the European Commission system. Heather will then use the PIC to register NYU as partner of our proposal and you’ll receive an invitation to log in and complete some information online (contact person, department names, etc.). Regarding the contributions to scientific aspects, ICL will circulate further instructions (probably directly Marie) * the proposal is composed of several sections: some administrative forms filled in directly on the Participant Portal (including the budget which will be managed by the coordinator) and a technical annex which will be 40 pages. As I said, early next week ICL will circulate the commented template asking for contributions to all partners. Hope this can help to clarify some general aspects. Dear Krystle, On your second and third questions: 2. we envisage Marie's role to be leading, or co-leading, the design, and supporting the implementation, of interventions aimed at reducing young people's exposure to digital media use and contents that may lead to obesity, mental health conditions and addictions. 3. We do not plan to run human subject studies in the US. All interventions will be deployed in European countries. Please, let me know if you need anything else for your submission. She asked that I reach out to you because our internal sponsored research/grants team needs us to submit a budget justification and scope of work this week for her involvement on ICL's "Z-health: health in the digital generation" proposal. Could you please provide the following information that we need fo these documents: 1. A brief description of the major goals of the proposal 1. A description of Marie's proposed contributions to the science/project 1. Will Marie be running a human subjects study at NYUSOM in the US? If so, will we be sharing human subjects data with other sites/countries? We look forward to working with you and appreciate your assistance! In case you’ll need support for this feel free to contact my colleague; * NYU will be a formal partner of the consortium (no subcontract) carrying out activities in the workplan. We’re happy to help if you need anything else. We are preparing this bid in conjunction with Isinnova. I am copying in my colleagues, Giovanna and Giulia, to see if they are able to advise you on the documentation that will be needed from New York University. In the meantime, the provisional working title for the proposal is: Z-health: health in the digital generation The proposal is still in the early stages and I don’t think I’ve seen any estimates of the project length but Giovanna may have a better idea. The most pressing details we need at the moment are: 1. the Participant Identification Code<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/ec.europa.eu/info/funding-tenders/opportunities/portal/screen/how-to-participate/participant-register__;!!Cs6gcNsejA!FuBFAPnO3cY42ac_rygHoQ3p5D2GkuuB9mf0aswLDYP7NdNKLkX0jssQAqT6_L5d6IjJv9M8Br4773XVkqYjW9Gfp2s$> (PIC). I did find a number of 999437561 but if you could confirm whether this is correct that would be great. 2. The average monthly rate – this is based on a weighted mix of staff who are likely to be involved in the project.
