Question regarding HPC governance at Imperial

Dear All, I was preparing thoughts for the review this afternoon and I realised that I didn't know how the HPC resources were allocated at college. It seemed to me that apart from where special arrangements had been made with equipment being bought on grants, it was essentially up to Simon. Was there more to it? Any information from users or ICT people would be very useful. Best, david

Yandex Course on Machine Learning

Dear All, I hope that you are all enjoying the festive season and that you have a wonderful New Year. For a number of years we have given our PhD student an intensive two week course on machine learning given by Yandex. Last year we opened this up to other members of college and we had about 25 people from different departments (including our own PhD students). As last year was a success we have decided to invite people from other groups and departments take the course again this year. The course is a mixture of the theoretical and the practical and we think that it is very good indeed. The dates for next year's course are 23 Jan-06 Feb 2017. This is to help cover the costs of the Yandex instructors (Yandex only charge us for the expenses of the instructors in London and nothing else). Who represents which group/course?

Hi All, I have just had a look at the list of people listed on the web pages as to who represents which group and some of these people have left or in significant roles that means that they specifically don't do this any more. So it would be good to update this list so please could you tell me which group/course you represent. Urgentish (scientific) software licences

I would like to get a list from this group as quickly as possible (ideally today) and then send that list to the staff lists for any additions, ideally over the weekend. I would like somebody from ICT to correct me but my understanding is that we have site/faulty/departmental licenses for: Mathematica Maple Matlab Labview Origin Intel Compilers NAG Libraries (some varient of) SPICE? (what else) What other things do we need/would benefit from? To get things started, I would suggest the following have multiple users: LabView MATLAB Mathematica Maple Origin Equation Editor Volocity Bitplane - Imaris Definiens Huygens Metamorph FEE Amira We have or have had site licenses for some of these packages but I am not sure of the current situation. In some cases site licences are restricted to specific Departments or Faculties. If you can help us generate a list of the software tools that we need to use as a community in our research, we can explore opportunities for further consolidated purchasing of licences.
