Hi everyone, It's that time of the term again where I have the pleasure of nagging you all to *buy mat fees!!!!* So, here it goes, nicely this time: please buy mat fees :) We really need everyone to pay their fair share so we can afford to keep running all the sessions and maintain Glenn as our excellent coach. The judo products page is a bit confusing as there are many different products depending on when you joined and if you are a beginner or not. So to make everything simpler for you (and to give you no excuse not to buy mat fees!), the links are provided below. I have also noticed that a few people still haven't bought membership. It's vital that you buy membership as it reflects our statistics as a club and can influence how much money we get given from the Union for next year. Hoodies

Hey guys! Just wanted to re ensure the numbers for the judo hoodie order. To all of those who do not know, we are planning to place an order for personalized IC Judo hoodies so you can brag about the club in campus :). The issue is that I need to know an exact number to take care of placing the order, therefore if anyone who is interested could reply to this e mail by the end of this week with their size and maybe with a design preference I would be very grateful. Warwick Open 9th Feb

Hello all, Its been a while since you have had any news on the competition front so here goes. The next uni competition is up in Warwick on the 9th Feb. As of yet, Imperial are yet to grace these country bumpkins with our presence but this year will be different! Apologies for the late notice, but if you're at all interested, please reply asap to philip.rudden09(a)imperial.ac.uk- entries need to be in by the 28th Jan if we want to pay a lower fee (£15 rather than £20, possible as low as £12 if we get enough players). If you feel that aggrieved by the lack of time, I will even let you throw me at training, although this is no hard task at the moment! They also have the options of accommodation on the Friday and Saturday nights as well as post-competition meal/social on the Saturday (see attached file). Regarding the competition itself, there are 5 categories. For men there is a novice individual competition (yellow belt and bellow); an ideal opportunity for our beginners to have a crack at their first competition so it would be great to hear from you guys. The men's intermediate (blue and green) and advanced (brown and higher) will be run as a team competition. This will be great fun and always has a great atmosphere so I would really encourage those interested to get involved. In the women's categories, it is all individual competitions split into intermediate (green and below) and advanced (blue and higher). Promises to be a great day even if you just want to come and support, especially with the team format! As I said, we have never been to this competition before so any feedback is welcome to gauge peoples interest and preferences regarding accommodation, travel etc. I look forward to hearing from you all, even if it it just to compliment my colour coding. There is also a competition being run on Sunday 10th Feb in High Wycombe (http://www.britishjudo.org.uk/sites/default/files/events/documents/10Febsen…) This competition looks to be more targeted at the slightly more experienced players as there is no minimum or maximum grade boundaries. Anyone on S&C who wants to do the programme tomorrow please find attached. Apparently we can't get the duty manager to open the squash court, so you'll have to do it in the normal gym. New rule changes for Judo

Hi everyone, This is particularly relevant to anyone who competes. Please see the *new rules*, which can be found on www.ijf.org (click on 'Refereeing & Organization Rules Changes - Explanations') Among these are: - No leg grabbing whatsoever (no grabbing under the belt) - Hansoku-make - No breaking the opponent's grip with both hands - No hand shake at the start of the match (Shido) - Seniors begins at 21 years now - Any immobilisation, strangles, arm-bars, chokes starting within the mat area will be continued even if you both move outside the area - Timings for immobilisation are now: 10 seconds Yuko, 15 seconds Waza-ari, 20 seconds Ippon - Shidos do not count for score now. 4 Shidos still equates to Hansoku-make. If both opponents at the end of the match have the same score, but one opponent has a greater number of Shidos than the other, that opponent will win. A Shido in Golden Score will also give rise to a win, as well as the first throw - Golden score will not be limited to 3 minutes now; it is unlimited time until one opponent throws the other (or wins in groundwork). There is no flags decision These are the main changes, but for the complete list and reasons why these changes are being made, check out the website at the top of the email. A quick note for anyone who is unsure: this FRIDAY is the last session of term. Beginners competition tomorrow

Hi all, A quick message from Glenn about the *beginner competition tomorrow *It will take place at *1.30pm *at Feltham Community College, TW13 7EF. This competition is for beginners - yellow belt and will be a team competition consisting of: *u60*, *u70*, *u80*, *u90* and *u100* categories. Entry is £50/team, so a tenner each. I've had a number of people say they're interested in this, but if you have already registered your interest, please email back to this just to confirm you will be going tomorrow. Training tomorrow and final training dates

A quick reminder for everyone who went to the London Open to bring their medals to training tomorrow for a team picture! :) Last training of the year will be on Friday 14th December, and training will recommence Weds January 9th.
