Only people who have attended a session of Tree Training (Wednesday's from 1 - 5 pm) are able to go on these trips. This is to ensure that you have some experience with how to navigate on a rope *What is Winter Tour?* *From 17 - 23 December is our Winter Tour!* This is a week long trip and a great way to practice your SRT in the best vertical caves the UK has to offer! 5-6 possible trips, including classics such as Notts Pot and Gaping Gill with plenty more! It's a great opportunity to put your advanced tree training to practice, and even learn to navigate your way through a cave. With all types of cave trips being possible, from relaxed trips that allow you to get comfortable with SRT and see beautiful scenery to more intense trips where you can feel accomplished having navigated through 100's of metres of passage whilst looking at beautiful scenery, there's something for everyone. Weekend Trip to Derbyshire !!! When: Friday 19/11/2021 at 17:00 to Sunday 21/11/2021 at 23:45 Where: Derbyshire Price: We are currently finalising how to cost trips due to lack of minibuses, but it will not exceed £45.00 for the whole weekend (transport, food, accommodation, kit) Membership: you need membership to join weekend trips (£30.00) (membership lasts the entire year) SIGN UP HERE: https://forms.office.com/r/T5m9cSWGVM (older members who have access to our accounts spread sheet do not need to sign up here) This is our first SRT trip. This means that you must have learned all relevant rope skills at tree training. If you have not done so yet, please come along to tree training next Wednesday (10/11 between 1pm and 5pm in Princes Garden). Also have a look at our website<https://www.union.ic.ac.uk/rcc/caving/> for past trip reports to this caving region. We will meet in stores on Tuesday (16/11) at 17:00 to pack kit. You do not need any equipment of your own, we will provide everything you could possibly need in a cave. Please only buy the trip fee once your spot on this trip has been confirmed. We aim to confirm spots by the end of next week and an email with more details will be sent out then. How the trip works: We will set off on Friday evening and return on Sunday evening. On Friday we will leave from outside Beit Halls. Because of covid (☹) we ask you to please show us a recent negative covid test before travelling (a photo of a lateral flow test is enough, but a PCR from Imperial is even better). We will stop at a supermarket on the way to buy all the food we need for the weekend and also for you to buy your own dinner/snacks for Friday. Except for Friday’s and Sunday’s dinner, we cook all of our food together which is included in the trip cost. Accommodation, transport and all equipment are also covered by the trip cost! On Saturday we will have a fairly long caving trip if you feel like it, but sometimes a few of us decide to have a nice day on the surface instead. On Sunday we will have a shorter caving trip before driving back to London. We usually get back around midnight. Because the union is overhauling its minibus fleet we will be using personal cars or hire vehicles. Hi all, just a final reminder we had our caving film night coming up tomorrow at 7:30pm! We are meeting at the Cave House – 55 Norbroke Street, Hammersmith and Fulham, W12 0QX – its next to East Acton station (central line). Please, e-mail us if you get lost. These caves are horizontal (no rope needed) so that everyone can join. This trip is especially aimed at newcomers to caving! So do not worry if you have never set foot in a cave, this is the right trip for you. You also do not need to know any rope skills yet. Before going on this amazing trip, we will meet on Tuesday (26/10/21) at 17:00 to pack some kit. You do not need any equipment of your own, we will provide everything you could possibly need in a cave. We do recommend to bring your own sleeping bag if you have one, but we will of course provide one if needed. We will set off on Friday evening and return on Sunday evening. South Wales is a great caving area with lots of beautiful caves of all sizes. Whether you want to see pretty stalactites, want to walk through a meandering streamway, or see huge chambers, this is the right place for you. This trip will be quite popular so do not worry if you don’t get a spot, there’ll be many more in the future! Our future trip dates are: Date Destination Details 05/11 – 07/11 Mendips Bonfire Night Trip (smaller trip, but also suitable for beginners) 19/11 – 21/11 Yorkshire SRT required 26/11 – 28/11 CHECC (Yorkshire) University club meet up (generally not much caving occurs) _________________________________________________________________________________________ Caving Pub When: every Tuesday from around 18:00 until pubs close Where: FiveSixEight / Union Bar (in Beit Quad) Membership: you do not need membership to join us for a drink and a chat Come join us at the pub tomorrow! This is our weekly social activity. We sit in one of the campus pubs to eat dinner and have a few drinks. (Don’t worry if you don’t drink alcohol, some of us don’t either and we can confirm that the union has some acceptable non-alcoholic drinks.) This is a great opportunity to chat about caving. Look out for a caving helmet to find us! If you have trouble locating us, drop us an email or message our facebook group. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Tree Training When: every Wednesday, 13:00 – 17:00 Where: Prince’s Garden (outside Ethos) Price: FREE Membership: you do not need membership to join tree training Come to Prince’s Garden on Wednesday afternoon! Here we will show you a rope technique for caving called SRT (single rope technique). Due to a lack of caves in London, we practice our rope skills on a tree. So look out for a bunch of people climbing a tree in Prince’s Garden. There is no need to sign up, just show up at any time between 13:00 and 17:00 for however long you want to stay. Tree training will happen every Wednesday in Autumn Term (from now until the end of December). If you already know SRT, we will also rig some more complicated challenges to make sure that everyone has a fun time. You will need to learn SRT if you want to come on one of our later trips to Yorkshire or Derbyshire. _________________________________________________________________________________________ Caving Film Night When: Thursday 28/10/21 Where: 55 Norbroke Street, W12 0QX, East Acton (aka Cave House, where some of us cavers live) Price: FREE Our first film night of the year is coming up. This is the perfect opportunity to watch some classic caving films and to eat loads of popcorn.
