We have lots of plans for 2022: Weekend Trips, Easter Tour, Summer Expedition, Tuesdays Pub, Wednesdays Bouldering, and whatever else we want. Weekend Trips We have trips lined up every second weekend of spring term: Date Destination Details 14/01 – 16/01 Yorkshire Y2: NPC Hut 28/01 – 30/01 Yorkshire Y3: Bradford Hut 11/02 – 13/02 Mendips M2: Wessex Hut 25/02 – 27/02 Yorkshire Y4: NPC Hut 11/03 – 13/03 Yorkshire Y5: NPC Hut These trips all require SRT (rope) skills! We plan to do slightly harder caves than in autumn term, but you are still very welcome if you have not caved before. Tuesdays Pub We will continue to meet every Tuesday (from 11/01/21) at the union bar, or one of the other bars on campus. Come by from around 6pm for dinner, drinks, and caving conversation. If you can’t find us, please email or message. Wednesday Bouldering: Cavers Go Climbing Now that tree training is over, we will meet every Wednesday at 3pm at RavensWall climbing centre<https://londonclimbingcentres.co.uk/centre/ravenswall/>. Bouldering is great to build strength and skills for caving. The Student Off-Peak price is £9.00. Don’t worry if you have never climbed or bouldered before, we all teach each other and you can borrow any equipment from RavensWall. Afterwards we will probably head to a Weatherspoons or some other pub. Easter Tour We are currently working on planning our Easter Tour, which traditionally goes abroad. More details will follow soon. Summer Expedition Our expedition to the Julian Alps in Slovenia involves discovering new cave passage, camping underground, and living on top of a mountain in a national park for 5 weeks. We will have a presentation on our expedition, a.k.a. the Slov Talk, on the 20th of January. Current covid restrictions sadly mean that this talk will have to take place online. Tree training only runs in Autumn Term, so this is your last chance to learn SRT. You need SRT to come on most of our trips!!! Exciting! WINTER TOUR to Yorkshire !!! When: Friday 17/12/2021 – Thursday 23/12/2021 You do not have to be there the whole time! Lots of people choose to stay for only a few days. Where: Yorkshire (NPC) Price: The tour cost will be split after the whole tour. Total expected around £100 if you’re staying the whole time, but may vary. Membership: You need membership (£30.00)! SIGN UP: Reply to this email if you want to come!!! Please include how long you would like to stay. (Older members can just put their name and timeframe down on the accounts sheet.) You must have learned all relevant rope skills at tree training. If you have not done so yet, please come along to tree training on Wednesday between 1pm and 5pm in Princes Garden. We will meet in stores on Tuesday (14/12) at 17:00 to pack kit. You do not need any equipment of your own, we will provide everything you could possibly need in a cave. How the tour works: Winter tour is a great opportunity to do longer and more challenging caves, and in general to just do more caving. Yorkshire has a huge number of caves, so there is no risk of running out of new mud to explore. We will set off on Friday evening and return on Thursday evening. On Friday we will leave from outside Beit Halls. If you would like to travel on different days, please sort out your own transport, but we are happy to give advice and to provide lifts to nearby train stations. Because of covid (☹) we ask you to please show us a recent negative covid test before travelling (a photo of a lateral flow test is enough, but a PCR from Imperial is even better). We will stop at a shop/service station on the way to buy dinner and snacks. Most food required for the tour will be delivered to the caving hut. Trip Fee Update

Here is what we have decided (based on a poll): If we don’t have a minibus for a trip: * Everyone pays a £17 deposit (reduced to £13 for hut members as they pay lower hut fees). * Transport is organised by the club, and the total cost of transport is then subsidised and split between everyone who came on the trip (adjusted for distance travelled for those who don’t live in London). * This means that there will be 2 shop products – 1 before the trip and 1 after * The total cost is capped at £45 (reduced to £41 for hut members). * For any drivers carrying club humans or kit, the total amount of petrol can be claimed since you are making our trips possible * If anyone is travelling on their own (no club humans/kit) - £17 + you pay for your own transport cost (i.e. only buy the deposit) (reduced to £13 for hut members) If minibuses become available: * Anyone travelling on the minibus - £45 (reduced to £41 for hut members) * Anyone travelling in their own car - £17 + own transport cost (reduced to £13 for hut members) Please note that we may adjust (possibly reduce) the trip fee amounts next term, based on the amount of loss of the next few trips. Some of us go regularly anyway and going with others is so much more fun and motivating! These socials may not be advertised on the mailing lists but will most likely appear on FB group chats and as FB events. I and Oxmi usually go to West 1, a small (but tall and slightly cheaper) climming+bouldering wall just across Hyde Park from the uni with lots of cheap nice lebanese food shops around. Una and many others are regulars at Ravenswall, a much bigger wall with lots of good bouldering options with cheap Wetherspoons nearby. There may be trips to other walls too.
