Hey All, I hope everyone had a good weekend! On Saturday, Imperial A and B took on LSE A and B. I hear that Imperial A convincingly won 89-13 and Imperial B narrowly lost 46-31, so congratulations to those that played! Tomorrow, the advanced group will be in Union Meeting Room 3 again. Match against LSE

Hey, The match against LSE is on Saturday from 2pm to 6pm. It is at LSE in the New Academic Building on the 2nd floor. I'll be waiting at the South Kensington tube station and heading that way at 1.30pm in case some of you are not sure how to get there. LSE will be fielding two teams, we will too if we have 8-10 people playing. On monday some of you said they would play depending on what time the match is. Could you please confirm as soon as possible whether you will be there or not so we know how many players we have. That way Rohan can confirm it with the LSE president. Bridge Club 5th Meeting

Hi All, This week, the advanced group are in Union Meeting Room 3 again and the beginners' group are in Union Meeting Room 1 (for the full two hours, we don't need to start off in the JCR this week). Straight after practice, we'll be heading over to Brick Lane to get a curry. If you can't make it to Bridge but would still like to grab a curry, you can meet us at approximately 7:45 at Aldgate East tube station, Brick Lane exit. If you have any problems, give me a call (07595 822 009). Please remember that you have to be a member of Bridge Club to come along to Brick Lane. From next week, you will also have to be a member to attend weekly meetings. Last chance to sign up: http://www.imperialcollegeunion.org/bridge-443/bridge-membership-2213/produ… One more thing - I need to book rooms for next term so that we can hopefully get two fixed rooms and avoid faffing around with different rooms every week and moving halfway through. For this term, we were forced to book rooms from 5-7 because that was the only two hour slot available. However, for next term, I am considering changing the weekly meeting time to 6-8. Although this may mean that some of you will have to wait around for an extra hour on Mondays, it will have the advantage that more people will be able to attend because it doesn't clash with their lectures and we will also get a much wider choice of room bookings because it's after departmental room hours. If anyone has any serious issues with changing from 5-7 to 6-8 for next term, please send me an e-mail before midnight on Monday. Hey everyone! Remember there is a Juniors (U25) tournament this Sunday at the Young Chelsea Bridge Club! It would be nice if we could send a couple of teams from Imperial College =) Some people in my group that have already told me they are going to come but I haven't had a chance to talk to people in the beginners group yet. The entry fee is £5 per person including refreshments (details attached). If anyone is interested, please let me know as soon as you can. If you don't have a partner that isn't a problem at all, we'll try to pair people up. It should be a fun afternoon! On a separate note, I've contacted the EBU and they have agreed to pay us £300 worth of bridge tuition as well as provide us with bridge equipment and teaching material. We'll try to find a teacher during the course of the week and hopefully get one by Monday 15th November. For the people in my group, I'll get some tricky defensive problems on slides for Monday! Bridge Club 4th Meeting

Hi All, Bridge Club this week will be exactly the same as last week - Jorrit's group will be in Union Meeting Room 3 between 5-7 and my group will be in the JCR between 5-6 and in Physics LT2 between 6-7. I am also pleased to announce the first Bridge Club social event of the year: Curry on Brick Lane! We'll be heading over after practice on Monday the 8th of November. Please note, however, that if you want to come along, you will need to be a paid-up member of Bridge Club. 28 of you turned up in total last week but there are only 16 that have paid their membership fee. Hey all, Some of you have asked me about tournaments, duplicate sessions and lessons so I'm sending round an email to everyone with some further information if you are keen to get in some practice: 1) There will be a Junior Teams event at the Young Chelsea Bridge Club next week Sunday (7th Nov). The lady organising the event has told me the level will probably be not especially high, so if you are still a beginner that is not a problem at all and you are more than welcome. This will be held at the Young Chelsea Bridge Club in Earl's Court which is about 15 mins walk from South Kensington. 2) If any of you are under 19, there is also a Pairs competition on Sunday 28th November (£2 entrace fee). 3) The Young Chelsea Bridge Club also offer free beginners lessons for students. They have sessions on Monday evenings (7.30pm, so right after we finish), Wednesday afternoons and Sunday afternoons. They also have a beginners session on the first Thursday of every month where they serve wine and cheese (£5 for the evening). 4) Besides providing lessons and hosting events the Young Chelsea Bridge Club also runs regular club nights of varying levels (http://www.ycbc.co.uk/timetable.htm) These are all free for students and would be a great opportunity to have a few games and see what it is like. 5) If going to the Young Chelsea Bridge Club is not an option for whatever reason, a very popular bridge site is: http://www.bridgebase.com/ It is a free site with over 5000 members online at any time. It is useful if you would like to just play for a couple of minutes or want to do bidding practise with a friend. They also have live broadcasts with commentary of all major bridge tournaments around the world. Hi All, If you have signed up to this mailing list but haven't been able to attend Bridge Club yet, don't worry, it's not too late to start! Several of you have been asking about buying membership for Bridge Club. I'm pleased to say that the online payment system has finally been set up for Bridge Club - here's the link: http://www.imperialcollegeunion.org/clubs-and-societies/a-to-z/b/bridge/. If the link doesn't work, just go to the clubs & societies page on the Imperial College Union website, click on A-Z and then select "Bridge". Once there, you should click on "shop" on the left-hand side and then follow the on-screen instructions. Please buy your membership soon - it's only £2 and you will need to buy it fairly soon to continue attending Bridge Club. With regards to next week's meeting, I've taken on board the two main problems that you had (the lack of space and too much theory for the beginners' group). The advanced group will continue to be in Meeting Room 3 (where we were last week) from 5-7. The beginners' group will be in the JCR from 5-6 and then in Physics Lecture Room 2 from 6-7 (we'll take you there from the JCR, so you don't need to worry about getting in by yourself). Sorry about the half-time change but it's all I could book at short notice. In addition, the beginners' group will be playing No Trump contracts for the next two weeks, so hopefully a bit of a break from my dull theory lessons.
