FIRST BAR NIGHT and SRA AWARDS!

Hey all, Hope you're all enjoying this year of ICRADIO so far! I've got a couple of social events to tell you about, in order to help everyone get to know each other and feel a bit more involved with the society: Bar Night So, there will be an ICRADIO bar night on Monday 4th November at 6:30pm in the Union Bar. This is hopefully going to become a regular occurrence and will be a great opportunity for radio-ites to meet up and the society as a whole to get to know each other, rather than everybody just doing their own radio show without getting to see the rest of the people involved in the station! Come along, it'll be a laugh! Student Radio Awards So the Student Radio Awards are coming up on Thursday 7th November at indigO2. Unfortunately icradio hasn't been nominated for anything this year, but this event is a great opportunity to meet and party with like minded radio people and consists of the awards ceremony itself as well as an after party. New Shows, Getting Started and Training

First of all, congratulations to everyone who's started a show recently! We've got loads of great new shows and lots of variety, so take a look at what's on <http://www.icradio.com/schedule/> and have a listen. If you're a new presenter but would still like extra training, or someone to help out with a future show, keep reading. Starting your first show, and getting a show If you have a show slot already and you've been trained, please schedule your show for either this week or next: - To schedule, log in to the members' area<https://secure.icradio.com/members/>. You do not use your normal college login here - you will have been emailed automatically with login details up to 24 hours after buying membership. If you didn't get an email, please contact Stephen at it(a)icradio.com and ask him for an account. I know several associate members have had issues with this and we are looking in to fixing it for future members; for now, please email Stephen. - In the modules menu on the right, click 'Show Request'. There, you will be able to tick future episodes and schedule them. You must schedule each episode for it to appear in the listings and be recorded! An experienced presenter or member of the committee will join you during your first time to show you the ropes and help with any queries. If you've already started but would still like some help, reply to this email and let me know. If you do not have a show yet and would like one, there are just a few things you need to do: - First, make sure you have bought membership from the Union website<https://www.imperialcollegeunion.org/activities/a-to-z/383>. It will take up to 24 hours for your IC Radio account to be created, so please do this as soon as possible. - Take a look at the schedule spreadsheet<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AkH98J2fAtXmdDF6NWtCa016UlhiX1…>to see which slots are free. - Email me at programming(a)icradio.com and let me know which slot you'd like, and what your show's name will be. - Come to a training session: these are usually at noon on Wednesday, but others will be announced. If you can't make any, please email me to let me know, and I'll arrange one at a time that's good for you. - When you're trained, schedule your show and give it a go! An experienced presenter will join you to help with your first time, and if you would like to sit and watch any of the committee's shows to see how we do it, feel free to come along; they're listed below. Training As usual, training will be on *Wednesday at noon*. The IC Radio studio is in the Beit West Basement. Just go down the stairs, turn right, walk to the end of the corridor and you'll see it there. Feel free to come along if you've already been trained and want a refresher: we'll be going over more Rivendell use, and letting everyone have a go at queueing, announcing and playing tracks. Hello everybody! Congratulations to all the Freshers and first-timers who have had a lot to learn and were brave enough to unleash themselves onto the airwaves already. The new shows are sounding mighty fine! The emails are becoming a little less bulky. :o) STATION TOURS (That's radio stations, not train stations). Assistant Manager Aislinn has been in contact with some London-based radio stations in the hope of organising tours of their studios. For those interested, put your name down on the spread sheet so we get an idea of numbers and which station is the most popular. * BBC 6 Music * XFM * BBC Radio 2 * Magic Don't be shy, this will be a fantastic event ALL of you involved in radio. Hi all, Just a quick reminder that our next training session is tomorrow, Wednesday the 16th, meeting at noon outside the doors to the Beit west basement. If you don't have a show yet, please email programming(a)icradio.com - especially if you have reserved a space on the spreadsheet and haven't got in touch yet. I will be removing dormant slots next week to free up space for people who want it. Finally, this Friday we're getting together with STOIC and Music Tech to have a party in the shared studio. Hello everybody and, once again, welcome to our new members! Every weekend I, the Secretary, will send a summary of all the announcements, events and opportunities of the upcoming week. So, unless there is a dire emergency, you fine people will only receive ONE email per week. Sorted. MUSIC TEAM + WEBSITE DEVELOPERS Our automated music system, Sustain, is being upgraded to feature a wide range of quality tunage. Eamonn our Head of Music, is currently doing this on his own! SOUND ENGINEERING COURSE A lot of you have been asking about recording and sound engineering for ICRadio; stay tuned, Max, Technical Manager and Production Manager, will be running a course this term. HOW TO DO A RADIO SHOW I have attached the Guide To Presenting , written by our Head of Programming, Keir. This contains a summary of the training and will set you well on your way to becoming a confident show host. Also, Keir is receiving a ton of emails about training at the moment; he will get around to all of you eventually, be patient please :o) In the meantime, check out the spread-sheet in the link below.
