Physics Computing Meeting - short notice - please fill in by end of Thursday.
Dear All, My apologies for the short notice. I had taken my eye off the timings and was reminded today that we have an FCC a week from today. As you know I like to have the Physics meeting in the run up to the FCC and so we have little time. I also have an other computing meeting in our lunchtime slot on Monday. So I have created a doodle poll at: https://doodle.com/group-poll/participate/e9GvZZJb If none of these days work then we will just have to meet after the FCC but let's see if there is a date. As well as the usual updates from RCS and the rest of ICT, the major thing that I want to discuss is cyber security as there is a lot going on in that space. There are also a couple of other smaller items that I will add. I have explicitly added Tom WIllson (not sure if Tom is on our list) and James Toner to cover different aspects of the security brief. Please tell me of anything else that you would like to add. Best, david
Hi David, Can we add what (if any) software licences the Department pays for in 2025 please. Hopefully a short item but it has been difficult to determine what's what with a lot of change in the Department over the past 12 months or so. Hi Rich, That is a good point. I have cc'ed Liz as this is something that he DOM used to keep a detailed record of and ICT administered so may be Okan can also comment. My knowledge is a little ropey here but the ones that I know that we used have included: - Mathematica - LabView - Intel compilers (shared with Maths?) as well as college wide ones such MatLab etc. Any comments Liz and Okan? Maths as a department has not used Mathematica since 2004 although one or two staff members did have personal licenses until they left Imperial about 10 years later. One member of staff sometimes uses an old version of the Intel Fortran compiler but I'm not sure of the licensing status now, will find out & get back to you. HI Andy, Indeed when Physics acquired a departmental license we asked Maths but there were few takers so this was just physics. Th only license that we shared with Maths used to the Intel compilers but I have no idea if that is still the case. Best, david On 06/02/2025 19:25, andy thomas wrote:

Another that is being asked about at the moment is MathType - does anybody have any knowledge about this one. Again I know that we used to have it but I don't know about the current status. Best, david On 06/02/2025 19:32, David Colling wrote:

Hi On Intel compilers, as of 2023 onwards no departments should be paying for Intel compilers as we brought them all together into an agreement under RCS with Intel and anyone who needs access to updates, older versions, support etc we can get you setup. We did contact all known Intel users at the time but just in case any are slipping through the net! Hi All, By far the most popular day was Tuesday the 11th (sorry Ruth, do you want to send a deputy?). I have booked 532 for those in college and a teams invite will follow. If you have more agenda items then please send them to me tomorrow so that I can send out an agenda tomorrow evening. Best, david On 05/02/2025 20:46, David Colling wrote:
