Hi Rich, Thanks for this.
A list of Departmental computing resources would be helpful, in particular things like: - storage space available/provided to staff / postdocs / students and how to apply for more storage (e.g. the 'H' drive)
The only problem that I can see is that I have to approve every increase in people's H drives regardless of whether I know them or not ;-)
- Departmental printing facilities (e.g. Neal Powell in Blackett 206) for poster printing (maybe this is already listed on the Physics web pages?) - any other Departmental IT resources (e.g. server rooms, printer rooms run by ICT, etc.)
Something possibly more contentious, but it would be useful (to me at least) to know if there are any other groups in the Department still running SOLARIS (SPARC) systems - so a brief summary of computing facilities in each Group might be useful: e.g. SPAT - variety of Sun SOLARIS (SPARC), Linux-based NAS devices (total approx. 0.75PB), DAS devices, and desktop PCs running Windows/Linux.
What do others think about this? I can see that it could be useful, but that it must be kept up to date to remain so. Best, david
Feel free to disagree with my suggestions of course.
Rich

Dear All,
Something that has been on my (low priority) list of things to do for about a year is the restructuring of Physics Departmental Computing pages. Caroline Jackson has offered to do the work and she is waiting on me (and has been for the best part of a year). So now I am trying to think of useful content. so far I have:
- A list of group representatives - minutes of our meetings - Licensing information for things for which we have site/faculty licenses (often just a statement and link to the ICT shop) - Links to ICT general support pages.
What else would be useful?
Best, david
