Dear David & all, I'm afraid I'm travelling tomorrow (hopefully!), so won't be able to make the meeting. I would like to add the following to the agenda:- Anecdotally, CX1 (the main college HPC facility) has been extremely and increasingly unstable during the autumn term. I've spoken to PhD students in EXSS who are struggling to make any progress in their computational research, after having made CX1 an essential part of their projects. I understand there's some technical issues that may be resolved in the medium term (new hardware, issues with the file system configuration etc.), but what is being done to ensure it's a reliable facility in the future? Physics declined to put some money in 'Young' (the 'Tier 2' EPSRC Computational resource, administered by UCL and shared with 8 other institutions), and so as a result we don't have access. (Physics had access to the previous 'Thomas' computer.) I think this decision should be revisited in the light of the local facility instability. Best wishes, Jarv On Mon, 13 Dec 2021 at 18:25, David Colling <d.colling@imperial.ac.uk> wrote:
Dear All,
It looks like we do have enough availability to make it worth having a meeting this week, so we will meet on Thursday [teams link at the end of the email].
I will circulate an agenda on Wednesday. Please send me any items that you would like discussed. Ellen, would you be able to give an update from ICT? I know that at the faculty computing meeting the poor answering of tickets was a significant issue. As were the different papers from the RCS.
Best, david

Dear Physics Computing People,
I have been meaning to organise a meeting at some point during this term as there is quite a lot going on but - partly because there is so much going on - it has never reached the top of my "must do now" list. I think that it would be good if we could meet one lunch time in this lst week of term and so I have made a doodle poll.

If, because of the short notice, there are too many constraints on people's time then I suggest that we meet very early on next term - but let's see if we can meet this week.
Best, david
