SPAT's existing use of H147 is minimal (2x4U, 1x3U and 1x2U) but we actually have around 2 full cabinet's worth of rackmount equipment. I've not installed any new hardware in H147 recently as I knew it was going to be retired. Whilst a solution of housing our equipment in SAF has been found, it would be preferable to have some equipment still installed in Huxley in addition to the Mech Eng Data Centre and SAF (for ease of access, and also when we have special campaigns we require all networking on the path to be covered with UPS'). With this is mind, it would be good to have a full height rack reserved for SPAT's use at some point. So more like 1/6 present size or smaller. I think I have such a room (an old darkroom) though it needs cooling and probably a new ring mains. Kindest regards Simon -----Original Message----- From: physics-departmental-computing-bounces@imperial.ac.uk [mailto:physics-departmental-computing-bounces@imperial.ac.uk] On Behalf Of David Colling Sent: 15 December 2011 12:06 To: physics-departmental-computing; Weir, Kenny; Burns, Roy G Subject: [Physics-Departmental-Computing] Move out of Huxley machine room Dear All, I was slightly concerned at yesterday's meeting about the proposed proliferation of small machine rooms. I feel that it would be much better, for many reasons, if we could have one medium sized room - perhaps half or a third of the size the current machine room. The problem then (obviously) is finding such a room. Surely there must a student common room that we haven't shutdown already that we can use?
