Hi David, Given the number of operating clusters/rack - (I make it 1 19" rack computer 1/2 full, 1 cabinet, 1 ~server on a 19" rack about 6-10u high; and one cluster on racking that could readily be rebuilt onto 19" racks) = room for ~3 19" racks with cooling. So more like 1/6 present size or smaller. I think I have such a room (an old darkroom) though it needs cooling and probably a new ring mains. Kindest regards Simon -----Original Message----- From: physics-departmental-computing-bounces@imperial.ac.uk [mailto:physics-departmental-computing-bounces@imperial.ac.uk] On Behalf Of David Colling Sent: 15 December 2011 12:06 To: physics-departmental-computing; Weir, Kenny; Burns, Roy G Subject: [Physics-Departmental-Computing] Move out of Huxley machine room Dear All, I was slightly concerned at yesterday's meeting about the proposed proliferation of small machine rooms. I feel that it would be much better, for many reasons, if we could have one medium sized room - perhaps half or a third of the size the current machine room. The problem then (obviously) is finding such a room. Surely there must a student common room that we haven't shutdown already that we can use?
