Subject: ICT Domain Controller replacement work

Dear Colleagues

Please see below for an important piece of information from ICT Technical Operations.  This work was postponed from its original date of September 20th as this was felt to be too close for comfort to the start of the new Academic Year. We do however now need to progress this work so could I please ask you to ensure that this message gets sent to research groups as they may be using the ICADS1 domain controller for authentication and will need to make a change to prevent future disruption to their work.

Thanks

Chris

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ICT has been running a project to upgrade our domain controllers (which are responsible for authentication) from Windows Server 2008 R2 to Windows Server 2012. We are now near the end of this and are looking to remove one of our domain controllers called ICADS1, this is a server that has been around for a long time, and we are aware that some people might be using this in their authentication configuration.

Please can you publicise and communicate that our preferred alternative authentication address is the following;

ICADSLDAP.ic.ac.uk

This is a load balanced address that means which means that once this is configured, it will not need to be changed in the future and it will improve performance as you will not suffer any interruption to your system if an individual server goes down.  If you find that this does not work, then please let us know and we will provide you with an alternative solution.

We plan on powering down ICADS1 at 10am on Wednesday October 30th, to help identify any systems that are using this, if this causes you any issues, then please contact the ICT Service Desk and we will work with you to quickly resolve this.
