Dear All, SPAT are looking at purchasing the following software: ISE System Edition/Vivado Design Suite http://www.europractice.stfc.ac.uk/software/xilinx.html#software The minimum license volume is a 25 license Bundle UEF-ISE-SYSTEM-25 costing €775 (EURO) http://www.europractice.stfc.ac.uk/software/software_price.html#xilinx Please can you let me know if there are any other groups within the Department that might be interested in this software so that the cost (not huge anyway) might be shared? My understanding is that each licence will be node-locked to a specific system. We are aware of other licence holders within the College, but not in the Department. Thanks, Rich

From 1st August the Department is taking up a Departmental license to cover all copies of LabView running in the Department. With the number of copies we have in the Department this is more cost-effective (on current numbers this will mean a saving of around 40% per copy). To renew your license under the Departmental License please contact the ICT Shop (ict-shop(a)imperial.ac.uk <mailto:ict-shop@imperial.ac.uk>) confirming that you are a member of the department and that you wish to renew your license under the Departmental License. Dear All, Something that has been on my (low priority) list of things to do for about a year is the restructuring of Physics Departmental Computing pages. Caroline Jackson has offered to do the work and she is waiting on me (and has been for the best part of a year). So now I am trying to think of useful content. so far I have: - A list of group representatives - minutes of our meetings - Licensing information for things for which we have site/faculty licenses (often just a statement and link to the ICT shop) - Links to ICT general support pages. What else would be useful? Best, david

Is enthought python part of a standard desktop?

Hi, I guess that the question is in the subject line. If it isn't please could we add it to at least the machines installed in physics. With python becoming part of the overall teaching armoury it would be very useful to have it installed on people's desktops. People who don't have standard desktops presumably know enough about computers to install it themselves. best, david

DELL Client and Server roadmap

All, Whilst DELL are not the preferred supplier for desktops, workstations and laptops, there is still a considerable college spend with DELL each year. This is made up predominantly of servers and storage, with a smaller level of laptops and desktops for research use. As such DELL are keen to keep you updated with information on new products and the roadmap for the coming year or so. DELL have proposed an opportunity to come in to College in mid to late September and provide an overview of recent changes and new innovations in the client and server areas and as such I wanted to gauge your level of interest in attending such an event. Please could you reply to me letting me know if this is of interest to you and whether there are any preferred dates for such a session.
