About the smooth artificial viscosity model
Dear all, I find a smooth artificial viscosity model implemented in the Compressible Flow Solver. However, I haven't find a sample xml file on this. So would someone please send me a xml file using this model such as the NACA0012 transonic flow case? Thank you in advance! Best, Jian Yu
Dear Jian, Here is an example xml file for transonic inviscid flow (M=0.8) past a NACA 0012 at alpha = 1.25 deg using the smooth artificial viscosity model. Please let me know if you run into problems running this case. Kind regards, Dirk

Dear Jian, In addition to my previous email I would like to state that it is advisable to perhaps first run to steady state with the normal Persson and Peraire model by changing the ShockCaptureType to NonSmooth so: <I PROPERTY="ShockCaptureType" VALUE=“NonSmooth" /> Once the steady state solution is obtained you can use the obtained sensor distribution as an initial condition for the smooth viscosity variable "eps” and restart the simulation with the smooth artificial viscosity model switched on. Using the smooth artificial viscosity model is relatively expensive since you are adding an extra PDE to your system of equations and furthermore, you will notice that the system becomes rather stiff which results in a more restricted CFL. Kind regards, Dirk
