Hi Shan,

Certainly with continuous Galerkin method you can avoid the checker boarding effect by using a Taylor Hood element where the pressure space is one order lower than the velocity space. I think there is an example of how to set this up in the user-guide. We tend to use this combination at higher Re numbers where we do otherwise observe problems.

For DG spaces I think you might need to use a P - (P-2) space where the pressure is two orders lower than the velocity.

Cheers,
Spencer.

Dear all:

When the continuous or discontinuous Galerkin method is used to solve the incompressible N-S equation, can the “checkerboarding” of the pressure field be avoided if the LBB (or inf-sup) condition is satisfied?

Can anyone help me? Thank you very much.

Best regards,
Shan
