FW: 2012-13 London University Judo League Proposal
If any of the more experienced Judokas are available on 26th July and would like to help out with the Olympic Torch event by aiding a taster session, please let me know and I will pass your details onto Luke. Thanks, Alice ________________________________________ From: Luke Farrugia [luke.farrugia@britishjudo.org.uk] Sent: 15 June 2012 11:41 To: Mitchell, Alice Cc: Hennelly, Anthony J P Subject: RE: 2012-13 London University Judo League Proposal Hi Alice, Would you and Imperial Judo Club be interested in supporting the Olympic Torch event in Holland Park on Thursday 26th July? The Budokwai are organising a demonstration with some of their junior members, and Nick Shepherd, BJA Development Coach will be facilitating a taster session which maybe Thalia, Bronwyn or any of your more experienced Judokas could support him with? Let me know your thoughts and I will include you in the email detailing more about the event. Many thanks, Luke. -----Original Message----- From: Mitchell, Alice [mailto:alice.mitchell09@imperial.ac.uk] Sent: 10 June 2012 13:17 To: Luke Farrugia Subject: RE: 2012-13 London University Judo League Proposal Hi Luke, Thanks for organising all of this! We are having a lot of trouble with your proposed dates for a meeting about this. Neither me or Guillermo (Secretary) are in the country for any of the dates proposed. I have asked around all of the other members of the Judo club, and only Phil, the Competition Secretary, is possibly available, however he is currently searching for placements so may not be able to make it in the end either. Are there any other possible dates that we could work around? Having now spoken to each of the existing University Judo Clubs about such a proposal, everyone is in agreement that this is the next desirable and necessary step for our sport if we are to continue developing University Judo in London, especially with regards to recruiting and retaining our student members. Competitive opportunities aligned with an organised social calendar, will provide us with an invaluable promotional tool when we enter the recruitment phase during Freshers. Furthermore, with students now paying more for their University careers, they will be looking for activities which offer value for money and additionality, which an organised league and intra-University social calendar would indeed offer. The Judo specific benefits from such a proposal speak for themselves, with you all I am sure agreeing that competing more regularly would enhance all of your respective Judo experience and abilities. This said, Glenn Spiers, Imperial Judo Club Head Coach has kindly drafted an Intra-London University Judo League proposal, modelling a structure which was successfully implemented for Scottish Universities, and which I have attached to this email. Although the BJA will of course do our utmost to support such a competition framework, it is imperative that we have the full-support of each University Judo Club, and that you each take some responsibility for ensuring that the league is organised and administered in accordance to the guidelines and rules which we all eventually agree upon. The time has also come for Universities to take responsibility for up-skilling certain members of their club to become referees and table officials, with the BJA able to facilitate a Technical Officials Course for students, in preparation for the League. The next step in furthering this proposal is for each University to provide at least two representatives at a proposed 2012-13 London University Judo League Proposal planning meeting, preferably members of next year's committee and desirably, a Club Secretary, who I would recommend take responsibility for the administration and organisation of fixtures, teams etc., and the Club Captain/Chairman, who would be responsible for the team selection etc., in addition to the Head Coach. Please review the dates below and advise on which date and whether morning or afternoon would be preferential, and I will be sure to finalise the date and time in accordance with the majority's availability. The meeting will take place at the BJA London Office, located in London South Bank University, next to Elephant and Castle Tube. Thursday 12th July Morning / Afternoon Tuesday 17th July Morning / Afternoon Wednesday 18th July Morning / Afternoon I look forward to hearing from you in due course. Best Regards, Luke.
