JUDO THIS SATURDAY The 1st session judo of the year will be this Saturday 1.30-4. So its time to unrust your judo skills and work off the Christmas Bulge! The session is open to everyone so I hope to see you there. COMPETITIONS We’ve got a several competitions lined up this term. If you want to take part please read on and you must get back to me by next Tuesday 20/01/04. There are Kyu and Dan grade events. USIST Saturday 29th of Feb (traveling there on Friday night and back on Sunday morning) In Sheffield University. This is a team competition and attracts teams from overseas. It’s intended as a warm up to BUSA. The standard is good and so is the socializing! We have funding for a teams entry fees and 40% of travel. Accommodation is provided but you’ll need a sleeping bag….. We can enter as many teams as we want For a team we need: Men 2 under 73kg 1 under 90kg 1 over 90kg Women 1 under 57kg 1 over 57kg Up to 4 reserves For more information go to http://www.shef.ac.uk/~jc/index.html BUSA 19th – 21st March in Stoke on Trent This is the big student judo competition of the year. Practically all student university clubs in the UK compete. The individual events are on Saturday. There are separate Kuy and Dan grade competitions. Minimum grade requirements of 7th Kyu (upper orange) for Women and 6th Kyu (lower green) for Men. The team competition takes place on Sunday. There is a womens team of 3 and a mens team of 5. The teams will be decided upon the Saturday from the individual entries. We got Silver last year so we’ll see if we can go one better this year. There is a Kyu and Dan grade competition. There is no minimum grade requirement for the kyu grade competition. The however the Dan grade competition did attract the likes of Eric Bonti last year. The Kyu grade competition will be on the 14th and the Dan grade on the 15th. It costs 14 pounds to enter. It takes place in excel in the docklands so its nice and close by. Make sure you tell me your weight (or at least the weight you intend to compete at). The weight categories are: Women’s Men’s -48 Kg -60 Kg -52 Kg -66 Kg -57 Kg -73 Kg -63 Kg -81 Kg -70 Kg -90 Kg -78 Kg -100 Kg +78 Kg + 100 Kg To compete in USIST and BUSA you will need an up to date BJA licence. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have one when entering you just need one on the day of the competition. Mellenium International requires a licence from a judo organisation (which has an organised insurance policy). Of course anyone who wants to spectate at these events is also welcome.
