Hello all,
Happy New Year!
In the theme of starting afresh, please let me know if you are on this mailing list and don’t want to be. I know there are still many names from past members and I don’t think the link to remove yourself works. Let me know and I can remove you.
Sessions
We will confirm the date we start sessions back up when we’re sure of it, hopefully as soon as possible.
In the meantime, Glenn’s Budokwai morning sessions on Mondays and Wednesdays 7:00-8:00am will be starting this Wednesday 5th of January.
This will be of interest to anyone who wanted to grade last year, couldn’t, and still wants to ahead of the entry deadlines listed below. Let me know.
Calendar
There are two competitions that can be entered this month:
Kent Kyu Grade Open
January 23rd (Sunday)
Deadline for entry: January 16th (Sunday)
Note: this one has only kyu grades, no black belts

University of Warwick Invitational Tournament
January 29th (Saturday)
Deadline for entry: January 14th (Friday)

If you go to the BJA events page you’ll see that the Scottish Open is also this month. However, this event was, according to the JudoScotland facebook page, cancelled due to COVID regulations.
The Warwick tournament will have a pretty big university presence since they directly invite other uni clubs. It’s a very well organised club, so the event will be a great experience. Both the events can be entered by all Kyu grades from 6th to 1st, and I think even ungraded but licensed white belts can enter the Warwick one.
Travel and Whatsapp Chat
Both of these events are close enough to London that you could travel the morning of but you could also travel the night before and stay at a hotel. As we did for the Sheffield competition last month, we have a whatsapp chat for anyone competing so that joint travel/accommodation can be coordinated.

Spreadsheet
For the sake of record keeping, we ask that you log your interest on this spreadsheet. Note: entering your name on this spreadsheet does not mean we are signing you up it just means we know you’re going. You’ll have to sign up yourself.

Deadlines etc
Please do not wait until the deadline for entry to raise any questions or problems or whatever. Try and hash out absolutely any query you have as soon as possible. You can email us, or alternatively you can contact the event organisers themselves using the contact info they’ve provided.
Money
If you owe money for last term’s fees, please pay up as soon as possible. I will be chasing you up on it. If you have paid and you haven’t told me, please do so I can log you as having paid.
Regards,
Nicolas
