Competition!
The London Universities Open is coming up very soon (November 11th) and a lot of you have expressed interest, which is great! To anyone who is interested in entering the competition please make sure you have signed up to the competition either in class or by email by midnight Wednesday 31st.
We will be bringing the sign-up sheet to the Judo session this Wednesday if there is anyone who still wants to sign up. You can also just reply to this email with the following details:
Name – Group(s) – Weight Group – Grade – BJA Licence No – DOB – M/F
If you’re a new student who hasn’t yet received a licence you can leave that section blank for now. If you don’t already own a gi please also put your gi size down.
The entry fee is £20 for entry to one group, and £30 for entry to both Youth and Senior. We’ll be collecting entry fees later – we’ll send more info out about this at a later date.
Student Voucher Scheme
We will be sending our application in on Thursday so again please sign up by midnight Wednesday 31st for your licence, gi and free grading! This is especially essential if you want to enter the competition. You can sign up on the website here: www.britishjudo.org.uk/svs<http://www.britishjudo.org.uk/svs>
Membership and Mat Fees
Kind reminder to buy your memberships and mat fees! Anyone who is entering the competition needs to be a member of the club.
Membership/ Mat Fees: https://www.imperialcollegeunion.org/shop/club-society-project-products/jud…
For non-Imperial students we have two options as you can’t buy the automatically created membership.
1. To become a member of the Imperial College Union you have to buy the Associate or Life union membership. Once you’ve done that, you can then buy membership like normal. https://www.imperialcollegeunion.org/your-union/how-were-run/membership
2. You can buy our “Mat Fees for Non-ICU members” product from the union shop which is the same price as our usual membership and mat fees combined. However as you’ve not actually bought our membership you are not officially counted as a member of the club, which really just means you can’t vote in elections and other official things like that.
If you have any questions, just reply to this email! 😊
Love,
Mehreen (Judo Secretary)

Hey guys,
Hope you’ve been enjoying Judo so far! I’ve got a long email with lots of important information for you below. If you have any questions about anything just reply to this email or message a committee member.
Election
Our President and Webmaster David will unfortunately not be carrying on with Judo this year ☹ As a result, we are holding an election for these positions next week on Wednesday 24th after Judo. If a current member of committee successfully gets one of the roles, there may also be an election for their previous role.
Anyone is welcome to run for a position, just turn up on the day. Even if you are not running for anything it would be good to have as many people as possible turn up to vote!
We will be meeting after Judo outside the Union Gym at 18:15. The room for the election hasn’t yet been confirmed by the union, but once any information comes through it should be posted on the FB group.
Membership and Mat Fees
As the taster sessions are coming to an end, please make sure to buy membership and pay your mat fees! You can buy Autumn fees, which allow you to come to as many sessions as you like throughout the Autumn term, or get a discount by paying for the whole year at once.
Membership/ Mat Fees: https://www.imperialcollegeunion.org/shop/club-society-project-products/jud…
Student Voucher Scheme
This is a scheme for students that gets you a BJA licence, a gi and your first grading all for £20. You need a licence to take part in competitions, grade to higher belts, and be insured against injuries – it’s basically essential.
You can place your order via this link: www.britishjudo.org.uk/svs<http://www.britishjudo.org.uk/svs>
Competition
Our first competition of the year is coming up – the London Universities and Colleges Open! We’re hoping to see lots of you sign up! Don’t worry if you’re a complete beginner, there are different categories for beginners and higher belts, and there will be lots of other complete beginners there.
The competition is held at the Sports Park at the University of East London on the 11th of November - we will send out an email a bit closer to the time with more info. I’ve also attached their sign-up sheet information. Unfortunately, the competition is only open to students from Imperial ☹
If you’re interested in entering, make sure to buy JudoSoc membership and also sign up to the SVS scheme soon as you need a licence to compete. We will be doing sign-ups for the competition in class, or you can also reply to this email with the following info:
Name – Group(s) – Weight Group – Grade – BJA Licence No – DOB – M/F
Love,
Mehreen (JudoSoc Secretary)

Hello guys,
Our first Judo training session is tomorrow (Monday 8th)! We currently have two training sessions running every week. You can come to as many or as few sessions as you like throughout the year, with your first four being free taster sessions. Our times are:
Monday 20:00-22:00
Wednesday 16:00-18:00
The times on the leaflets given out at Fresher’s Fair are the wrong way around, apologies for that. The times above are the correct times.
Both sessions are held in the Union Gym on the 3rd floor of the Union building in Beit Quad. (The building straight in front of you when you enter Beit Quad)
[cid:6b7ccceb-4ef1-4610-be02-5742669e0edd]
Union Gym location: 3rd Floor, Imperial College Union, Prince Consort Road, SW7 2BB
If you don’t already own a gi, please wear comfortable clothing that you can move about freely in. The club has judogi to lend out to beginners, however depending on the number of people who turn up, there may not be enough to go around, so long trousers and a top you don’t mind getting stretched out are recommended.
Glasses, earrings or anything else that might get pulled out or hurt you if you land on them are not allowed on the mats. It’s also best to keep your nails relatively short as it can hurt to grip gis if you have long nails.
If you have any questions feel free to email judo(a)imperial.ac.uk<mailto:judo@imperial.ac.uk> or post on our Facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/161492510549009/
Hope to see lots of you there!

Welcome to Imperial Judo!!!! (And welcome back to all our old faces too!)
It was great to see so many of you at Fresher’s Fair yesterday. Welcome to the best club at Imperial! We are all super excited for the year ahead and hope you are as eager as we are to… throw yourself into Judo.
Important Information
There is no judo training today! Our very first session will be Monday (8th October). We’ll be sending out another email over the weekend all about our timings, how to find us and any other information you might need!
This is just a quick email to wish you all a very warm welcome, give you some more information on what we do and make sure no one turns up at the gym today!
What We Do
As some of you might already know, Judo is a martial art and Olympic sport which focusses on throws, chokes, locks and hold-downs.
In our first sessions we will start from the very beginning, such as learning how to fall properly followed by some basic standing and ground techniques. If you are a more experienced Judoka you can join us a couple of weeks into term if that's what you would prefer, but you are also more than welcome to come to our first sessions! We have several training sessions a week, competitions throughout the year, and socials so we can get to know each other!
Who is Judo For?
Everyone!!! All genders, courses and skill levels are welcome =) If you’re a complete beginner, don’t worry! Some of us on the committee only started Judo after joining Imperial – we will make sure you are well looked after. Everyone is really friendly and helpful, so don’t be scared to come along!
You can turn up at any of our sessions, any time in the year and if you are new to Imperial Judo, your first few sessions are free taster sessions!
Social Media
Most important information will be emailed out, but we also have a FB group where a lot of the last-minute updates or spontaneous organisation of things will be posted, as well as Judo tips and videos, and information on socials and competitions. https://www.facebook.com/groups/161492510549009/
We also have a website that should be updated very soon, so you can also check that out:

Lots of Love,
