Hello all, Hope you are as excited as I am about the upcoming year, and ready for some hard-core training. The first session is* THIS WEDNESDAY* 3rd October (Budokwai, 1-3pm)! For everyone joining us this year, please remember to *buy membership* :) *You can buy membership here<https://www.imperialcollegeunion.org/shop/club-society-project-products/jud…> * This is how we get access to our Union Grant, so we can pay for grounds hire and coaching fees, so if everyone can buy membership as soon as possible, that'd be great!! Also coming up this TUESDAY is *Freshers' Fair, 11am-4pm*. This is our main chance to attract all the freshers and sign them up to Judo, so anyone who can spare a few hours and help us make this club bigger and better than ever this year. If you're around, please give me an email to let me know when you'd be able to help. If anyone has any Imperial Judo branded kit, please wear it as well! If not, and you'd like to help out, email me and I'll see if I can sort you out with something. We're located in the*College Main Entrance *, which is the big glass building off Exhibition road, and you'll find our stall on the left-hand side as you come in. Southend International and London Open

Dear Judo Society, Southend International 28/29th October I am writing as a follow up to my email last week. The deadline for Southend International is fast approaching- Friday 6th October- so this is your last chance to let me know if you want to compete. This should be a great competition and is a very popular event so we should take full advantage of this since it isnt too far away (relative to other comps in the far stretches of the wilderness or 'the North'). So far, 6 people have confirmed with 1 maybe so you won't be alone, win or lose. Event info here: http://www.britishjudo.org.uk/sites/default/files/events/documents/27OctSIJ…. Now, I must stress, if you want to go, you have to let me know IMMEDIATELY or as soon as you can haha! I have to send all entries by post, so this means in reality I will be sending them either today or Saturday. If you havent read this email by then, I will send another entry early next week if I have missed anyone in the first batch. I would prefer to do it all in one go however, since I will be paying for postage and also, the later in the week i send it, the higher the chance of the it not getting there in time. So if you're, interested just reply to this email and i will forward all the details i will need from you. London Open 24th November This is one of the best competitions of the year, and this year promises to be even better, with it being held at the state-of-the-art sports center at Univeristy of East London and more entries than ever before. It is grade banded and age banded (new for this year) so you won't be fighting anyone much better or stronger than you. Imperial always have a grea turnout to this one and even managed to winthe trophy last year. You should all be seriously considering this one! Let me know if you're interested, so i can start getting an idea of numbers. You can all expect an email in the not too distant future regarding entries etc. A word of advice: this may fill up before the deadline date since more colleges, sixth forms and universities will be attending than ever before, so I wouldn't wait too long before you make your mind up. Judo Competitions 2012/13- corrected

Hey Judo peeps, I hope you've all had a great summer and are looking forward to getting back on the mat. Just a quick email to make you all aware of the competitions coming up this year. The following are the big competitions on the university calendar: Sheffield Uni Kyu Grades - Sat 3rd November, Forge Valley School UEL London Open - 24th November. Always a great competition, and as I'm sure you remember, Imperial are reigning champs so this is a big one in our calendar. This year, as well as being grade banded, it is also age banded-u20's and above. Entires will likely max out for this, so REPLY ASAP if you want to compete. Info here: http://www.britishjudo.org.uk/sites/default/files/events/documents/24NovLON… USIST- tbc (normally early Feb). Great team competition in Sheffield attracting international teams as well. Big social on the Saturday as well. Warwick Open - Sat 9th February. Yet to be attended by Imperial, although last year, there were lots of kyu grade divisions, as well as a team competition as well. BUCS Individuals - 22/23/24th February; Teams- around 20th march. Biggest comp of the year, with the year gearing up towards this. Imperial had great success last year, coming second in the medal table, only being beaten by Anglia Ruskin who, essentially, run a Judo degree. Lille Team - 13th April. As well as all of these, there are loads of other competitions around the country throughout the year, advertised on the BJA website. In the near future: Southend International- 27/28th October. Good competition at the end of the month (giving time to get fit again- ish). Don't be intimidated by the 'international' bit, is not olympics standard! Divided into blue belt and below, and brown belt and upwards. I'm sure we will get a fair few people going to this so let me know asap, entries need to be done by Friday 5th October, and they still live in the dark ages meaning payment by cheques/paypal (see event details here http://www.britishjudo.org.uk/sites/default/files/events/documents/27OctSIJ…) This all means that in reality, I need to know before then so reply as soon as you can, or you might get left out. Neil Adams Classic- 20/21st October. Competition held in Manchester. Grade banded nearly to each belt so you wont be fighting anyone much better/worse than you. Closing date for entries Sunday 7th October so again, make haste if you fancy going to it and let me know. Scottish Open- 20th October. GB senior ranking event. Will be a high standard aimed at dan grades in particular. There are plenty more events of this calibre throughout the year. If you're curious, check the calendar on the BJA website. Kyu Grade Cup- 6th October. Held in High Wycombe. Incredibly short notice I know, with deadline for entries being 29th September. If you've been training over summer, or think you have the fitness for it, could be a good competition, otherwise would be best to wait for comps later in month once you've got a bit of fitness back. Its split into green belt and below, and blue and brown belts. Good opportunity for blue and brown belts to fight other people of the same level without coming up against far more skilled dan grades. Further to all of the above competitions, over the summer, the BJA, Glenn, Alice and all of the othe uni clubs in London, have been working to set up a London University League for this coming year. Training Times and Freshers Fair

Hi Everyone, I am pleased to confirm our training times for this year are: *Weds 1-3pm* at the Budokwai (4 Gilston Road, London SW10 9SL) *Friday 7.15-9pm* Ethos Dance Studio *Beginners sessions* for Autumn term: *Thursday 7-8pm Union Gym*, Beit Quad 3rd Floor *Freshers Fair* is also coming up on Tuesday 2nd October, 11-4pm, and we'd be really grateful if everyone could come help out and bring the Freshers to Judo! Pre-Season Training starts tomorrow!!

Dear all, Hope you are enjoying your last few weeks of freedom before term starts! For anyone who's already in London, pre-season training will start tomorrow, with a range of cardio and strength exercises held between Ethos and Hyde Park. Sport Imperial runs training 10-12, 2-4 every weekday in the last two weeks before the start of term(17-29th); it's a great way way to kick-start your fitness, ready for competition season coming up! (If you're not around though, I'm sure Glenn will see your fitness is up to scratch once term starts!!)
