FIRST ACC Barnight

Hi guys and girls, The time has come to celebrate your supreme athleticism. That's right, Ladies and Gentlemen, the first ACC Barnight of the year is upon us! The night will be held on Wednesday the 7th of November and has been organised slightly differently this year: Although, sadly the token system is still in place, they can now be redeemed in both FiveSixEight AND Metric! Indeed, the entire union is now open to the ACC Barnight. Tickets details are as follows: · £7 for 4 drink tokens + exclusive access to Metric · £3 for VIP access to Metric only - for those sensible people among you who put top performance in sport before excessive amounts of beer...lol The theme for the night is a white party! - Anything white will do, whether it be a toga, a towel, a t-shirt, a ghost costume, your finest 007 white tuxedo or even an old judo gi!!! Moreover, in order to cater for the lovely ladies we are lucky to have at our wonderful university, standard spirits + mixers and wine are now also available when redeeming tokens! Also, the taps in the Union have been replaced this year, instead of taking 21 seconds to pour a pint, as they did last year, a pint can now be poured at an astonishing rate of 9 seconds! Three options for you to get tickets: - Email me back and I can get some and give them to you next Wednesday - Get one in the JCR or Jake will be in SAC 12pm - 2pm every day from this Wednesday until Tuesday the 6th of November - On the door from 7pm onwards For those of you who have never been: this is an EPIC social so make sure you get a ticket! Beginner's Voucher Booklets and Membership

Sheffield Uni Kyu Tournament- 3rd Nov

Hello again, Even more competition news! On Saturday 3rd November, Sheffield university is holding a kyu grade competition (coloured belts) which promises to be a good one for those not long into the sport as well as some of the more advanced players. The grade boundaries are: Novice- Orange belt Green and Blue belts Brown Belts (point scoring) Obviously there is a logistical issue with travelling all the way to Sheffield, but I have been in touch with someone at Sheffield Judo club and may have a solution. Since weigh in is at 9 in the morning, we would have to travel up the night before and he has told me that it is likely people in the club will be able to put us up for the Friday night (sofas, floors= sleeping bags). I have looked into travel and the cheapest option would be to get a coach (4 hour journey) there and back, which along with a few taxis/buses to get to and from venue, is likely to cost in the region of £20-25 roughly (entry will be £15 on top of this). Sheffield Uni will have the same problem for the london open come November, so I suggested that if someone from their club gives you a place to stay for the comp, then you should offer a place for them for the London comp. Obviously, if you really can't accommodate people, don't be put off; but if you can, please do (otherwise it is a little bit out of order to expect it from them!)- sofas/floorspace is perfectly adequate. London Universities & Colleges Senior Open 24th Nov

Dear Judo guys and girls, I know you're probably sick of me by now, but here's another reminder about the London Open on the 24th November. This is a great competition for all levels from complete novice through to advanced judoka, and always has a great turnout from Imperial (we won the Club trophy last year!). The competition is grade and age bounded with the following categories: Under 20 Novice- Orange belt Under 20 Green and blue belts Over 20 Novice- Orange belt Over 20 Green and Blue belts All ages- Brown belt and above (For under 20 categories, you would need to have been under 20 on the 1st September 2012.) Don't be put off if you have only just started Judo. In 6 weeks you will have made huge progress and there will be many others at the competition who have only just started as well, so you shouldn't feel as though you won't be able to compete. I know some of you have already emailed me showing your interest, but could all of you who are interested (even if you have already sent me an email or have changed your mind since) or just want more information/advice please email me on philip.rudden09(a)imperial.ac.uk. It will cost £16 to enter; I will let you know the details of payment after you email me. If you are new to the club, or have not been entered through Imperial Judo club before, could you please send me the following details: Surname, First name, license number, grade, weight category and date of birth. To remind everyone, our training times are: Weds 1-3pm Budokwai (4 Gilston Road, Earl's Court, London SW10 9SL) Friday 7.15-9pm Ethos Dance Studio Beginners session: Thursday 7-8pm Union Gym, Beit Quad 3rd Floor If you're a beginner and want to come to our normal training sessions as well, that's all good too! If you know you want to join our Judo club, please pay membership as soon as possible. Our next competition which you can enter is the London Universities and Colleges Open (Saturday 24th November). This is a nice local competition, with banded weight categories, meaning you'll be fighting people of your level. It's really good fun, and usually culminates with a big social with the other universities afterwards. Hello all, A big welcome to everyone who subscribed to Judo today at Freshers Fair! We are looking forward to a bigger than ever year, with more competitions for both novices and advanced players, as well as a lively social side, including meals out, pub crawls, and lots of parties! We welcome everyone of any level, and run a beginners session through the first 11 weeks of term alongside our advanced training sessions, so you can learn at your own pace with dedicated sessions to guide you through starting Judo. Our first *beginners taster session* starts on *THIS THURSDAY* *7-8pm *at the *Union Gym, Beit Quad*. Just turn up in tracksuit bottoms and a loose top! In this session you will learn how to throw people, fall safely, and to learn how to fight on the ground, including pins, arm locks, strangles and chokes. Beginners also benefit from *4 free sessions*, *free British Judo Association membership*, a *Judo suit for only £6.* And, once you have learnt the basic techniques, you can take a* free grading* to take you up to red belt. Our advanced sessions, for those who have done judo before (or a similar martial art) take place on: *Wednesdays 1-3pm* at the *Budokwai *(The Budokwai 4 Gilston Road London SW10 9SL) *Friday 7.15-9pm *at *Ethos Dance Studio* The first session is this Wednesday (TOMORROW). We will be meeting *outside the Library at 12.30pm* to walk to the Budokwai as a group, but if you want to make you're own way there, that's fine! If you don't have a gi in the UK at the moment, it's not a problem! We have some spare and will be bringing them to tomorrow's session, and for a few sessions after that. If you are looking to purchase a new gi, our coach Glenn Spiers can usually get a discount. Talk to him at the end of the session if you're interested, and I am sure he will be more than happy to help you out! If you have any questions, please feel free to email!
