------------------------------ 1. Major Event 2014: A Kopi Affair
On Saturday the 22nd of February 2014, our Kopi Affair came to life on stage. It was a brilliant night where our music, dance, acting, singing, resonated greatly with the audience and within the Great Hall, with our Set Design and Lights and Sounds providing a terrific backdrop for all of this to happen.
It was a night that the teams prepared very hard for. Countless practices, almost so repetitive we could do everything with our eyes closed. Numerous combined rehearsals, where you could predict the next line from our cast, visualise the next dance and the smile on our dancers' faces, imagine hearing the melodic voices from chorale or that perfect harmony from the music team. Many many hours put into perfecting what we were going to bring to the audience - making sure our paint jobs were perfectly done, making sure our designs were up to standard.
It was a night where the audience was thoroughly entertained by us. Laughing at the jokes we had for them, being amazed at our incredible dances, and arcade battle, and getai battle, crying and tearing with us during "Heart in your hand". Smiling at the finale, where we brought to them unification, togetherness, and a thoroughly entertaining and amazing singing and dancing piece.
It was a night where all of us came together as one, for one goal, with one belief. We cheered one another on, gave our dearest friends pat-on-the-backs. We helped one another, be it just shining a torchlight backstage, or doing makeup, or just reminding one another of the dance or the song or the lines on stage. We stuck together.
It was a brilliant night, and at the end, when the lights dimmed and the music ended, the applause we got from the audience rang on in our ears and hearts. That applause was not only from them, but from the bottom of our own hearts, to our peers, to our comrades-in-arms. The people whom we toiled with, whom we spent countless hours and numerous practices with. It was a night where we can be proud to be called one team, one Singsoc. One that is special - there will be no other like it.
I'd like to use to chance to extend my utmost gratitude, and congratulations to each and every single participant of A Kopi Affair 2014. Thank you all for your dedication, and amazing qualities you have brought with you to the table. I sincerely hope that you've had fun in this journey as I have had, that it has been enjoyable and memorable, as it has been for me. I hope you've made many more friends and soulmates in this Singaporean community we call home. A home that we won't go back to without you.
On Saturday the 22nd of February, A Kopi Affair officially ended, but our Kopi Affair will live on in our hearts.
Most sincerely, your Major Event Officer, Chuan Khim ------------------------------ 2. Annual General Meeting 2014
Hi everyone! This section is broken down into two parts to facilitate your better reading:
*1. General Information for All*
Comprising the Annual Report from the 31st Exco, and of course, the elections for the 32nd Exco, this meeting is crucial to the future of ICSS. All members are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting! Do come down and support your friends who may be running for the 32nd Exco. *The agenda can be found** here <http://e.groupspaces.com/click/4a7wq-1ez6m-2knjah37fv?u=http%3A%2F%2Ffiles.groupspaces.com%2Ficss%2Ffiles%2F1018004%2FMH_7GsEEnWCXSSmKHwzs%2FAGENDA%2BFOR%2BANNUAL%2BGENERAL%2BMEETING.pdf%3Futm_medium%3Demail%26utm_source%3Dgroup%26utm_term%3Dgroup-1361>*. If there are any additional matter you wish to discuss at the meeting, please email Siming at secretary@ic-singsoc.net by Friday, 28th February so that it can be added into the agenda.
The meeting details are as follows:
*Date: *5th March (Wednesday) *Time: *12:30pm onwards *Venue: *Physics LT2 * Rough Programme: *Registration and lunch will commence at 12:30pm, followed by the presentation and elections. Dinner will be at 6:30pm, and elections will continue until all positions are filled.
Note that *only ICSS members can attend* this meeting, and that *free lunch and dinner will be provided *for those who register with us online. *Sign up **here <http://e.groupspaces.com/click/4a7wq-1ez6m-2knjah37fv?u=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fa%2Fic-singsoc.net%2Fforms%2Fd%2F1V8U2W7a4Klb2tc97SZKMOvFvU5TyYi2czAH_8o-1tDE%2Fviewform> by Monday, 3rd March* to secure your meals if not you will have no food!
*2. Nominations for Exco positions*
*Nominations and submission of manifestos are now open*! For those considering running for a position, or want to nominate a friend you think is suitable, please read the following carefully:
*Candidacy Eligibility Criteria* To run for office, you must be a full member of the ICSS. Other than that, there is no restriction on year of study, except that you must not be graduating or leaving Imperial at the end of the academic year, as you should complete a year-long term.
*Nomination Criteria * Once again, only members can nominate people to run for office. Moreover, *self-nominations are not allowed*. Plus, if you are running for a position, you cannot nominate someone for that same position. Finally, note that the *nominator must be present at the elections*, and *each nomination needs to be seconded* at the election itself by at least 2 full members *who are similarly not running for that same position*.
Now that all the restrictions are clearly stated above, how does one go about running for the Exco or nominating someone?
*To Nominate Someone* Simply send an email to agm2014@ic-singsoc.net <agm2013@ic-singsoc.net> with the following details:
1. Your CID number (i.e. CID no. of nominator) 2. Your name 3. Your contact no. 4. Your email address 5. Name of nominee 6. Contact no. of nominee 7. Email address of nominee 8. Position that you wish the nominee to run for
Once the nomination has been received by us, we will contact the nominee to get his/her agreement, before *publishing the names of both the nominator and the nominee* onto our website. Note that there *can be nominations at the elections* itself, similarly requiring at least 2 seconders.
*To Run for Office* Firstly, if you wish to find out more about the various Exco positions, you may approach any of the current Exco for more information. Alternatively, you can refer to our constitution<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/4a7wq-1ez6m-2knjah37fv?u=http%3A%2F%2Fe.groupspaces.com%2Fclick%2F2xdec-1ez6m-1bmcg8sa8t%3Fu%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwww.union.ic.ac.uk%252Fosc%252Fsingapore%252Fwp-content%252Fuploads%252F2011%252F03%252FConstitution.pdf%26utm_medium%3Demail%26utm_source%3Dgroup%26utm_term%3Dgroup-1361> .
Secondly, it is highly recommended that all candidates who wish to run for office *submit a manifesto* that we will publish on our website within 48hrs of us acknowledging receipt. This is so that members can find out more about what you candidates are like and what you stand for. Manifestos should be submitted to agm2014@ic-singsoc.net <agm2013@ic-singsoc.net> *by 3rd March 2359 hrs*. This will allow us enough time to have them printed for those at the AGM. The manifestos must contain the following:
1. Your name 2. The position you are running for 3. Your picture
There will be no restrictions on page length. As a guide, your manifesto is a personal statement that explains why you are will be suitable for the position. However, *submission of a manifesto does not guarantee a nomination*, and a nomination will still be required as explained above.
More information to come! Good luck to all interested candidates and see you all at AGM!
Regards, The 31st Exco ------------------------------ 3. ICSS Contemporary Dance Classes
