Meet and Greet sessions were successfully concluded on Wednesday and Saturday, and the 31st Exco would like to extend our gratitude to all who took time to come down for these meet-up sessions. The results will be released at a later date. Once again, thank you all for your active participation! ------------------------------ 2. Update on Major Event 2014
Greetings to all!
Hope you had an enjoyable Easter! Here's an update about Major Event 2014:
Thanks to all your contributions, we've had a good handful of fresh ideas suggested for Major Event 2014! A discussion was recently held among myself and all the idea contributors, where we reviewed the aims of Major Event, evaluated the ideas that were collated, and deliberated on the nature of Major Event 2014.
To reiterate, the aims of Major Event include: 1) To create a platform for members of the Society to bond and interact 2) To showcase the talents and culture of Singapore to the international community
Bearing in mind the aims above, the 2 ideas that we have finally shortlisted after the discussion are:
1. Entertainment Night 2. Musical(s)
Here's a little explanation about the new idea we have (Entertainment Night): - Small segments of acts put together - Workload distributed among more people: no one has to carry the the bulk of the load - Focused on the aspect of humour: to let everyone have a good night
I will present more information on this idea in the upcoming issues of Kaya and Toast; it is in the process of refining. The Exco and I would love to hear your opinions about the ideas (or anything at all)! You may contact me at my phone number 07544 082170, or via email at majorevent@ic-singsoc.net.
That's all for now! Do study hard for your upcoming exams, if you have any - good luck and all the best! Major Event and the Exco won't go home without you.
Yours truly, Chuan Khim
------------------------------ 3. UK Pre-Departure 2013 Event: Request for presenters
* *
*This is a message from the UKSSC President:*
Dear fellow student leaders,
I hope everyone is coping well with revision and enjoying Spring! I am writing to reach out to all of you to garner your interest on *presenting* for the UK Predeparture 2013 event on 21 July at Singapore Polytechnic Convention Centre. * Inspiring and guiding the future SG students in UK! * This year, the UKSSC is working closely with British Council to organise the annually held predeparture event for freshers and parents. Traditionally, the UKSSC would be given an allocated time duration to present on UK student life. This year, we have managed to secure a *40 minute time period* for all of us, fellow seniors, to share our experiences to our juniors. We would like to open up the 40 minute time period to anyone interested in presenting and sharing your UK life to incoming "lost" students.
This year, we would like to explore the option of having presentations such that there is at least one representative from each region so that the student life covered is all-encompassing across the UK. Thus, we have come up with the following outline for the presentations:
Topic: There are a couple of proposed topics (but not limited to): academia, culture, entertainment, travel, food and anything interesting about your region/ university.
Format: *Free-style*! UK life has been really exhilarating and there's many ways to present it. Giving a *speech*, putting on an act, preparing a short comedy show, doing a video etc. You may feel free to grab your friends (or ExCo) to join you in preparing any form of engaging presentation! Afterall, *our UK life is not just about studying!* * Possible ideas: Speech with typical British humour, creating an enact of whose line is it anyway? related to UK student life, putting up a Scottish dance show, a (powerpoint) presentation on your travel highlights in the UK/ Europe etc. feel free to suggest! * Time limit: Due to the tight schedule on that day, we do have to work a time limit of *5-15 minutes per presentation *depending on the type of presentation you (and your friends) would like to give*.
If you are interested in sharing your experiences, please do indicate your interest by replying to Grace Fong at president@ukssc.org or fill up the form at http ://tinyurl . com/coxny7s<http://e.groupspaces.com/click/37of5-1ez6m-1lfdj3twqq?u=http%3A%2F%2Ftinyurl.com%2Fcoxny7s>. The deadline is *25 May 2013*.
Thank you very much, and all the best for your revision! ------------------------------ 4. Classifieds
