President's Message ----------------------------------------------------------------- Dear friends, The ICSS successfully held its Ordinary General Meeting last Wednesday, the 3rd of November. A big thank you goes out to the 53 members who turned up for the event. I hope that you found the presentation informative. Just as a side note, the ICSS Executive Committee is always open to suggestions! Please do not hesitate in sending forth any comments/suggestions you might have. I would like to provide a brief update on the events calendar for those of you who missed out on the presentation. Here are the dates to take note of: **1) Nottingham Games ** The highly anticipated Winter Games! Represent the ICSS and don the society jersey with pride as we go head to head with the rest of the UK SSAs! Date: 13th November 2010 Venue: Nottingham University Time: 5:30 am Beit Hall Contact: wonghongyi@hotmail.com ** 2) ICSS Paintball!** Assemble your gear and take your work stress out at one another on the battlefield! ICSS will be organizing a paintballing session this Autumn Term! Register your interest today with our Events Officer Sid (sidmontu@gmail.com). **3) Autumn Musicals** In partnership with the Art Society, we will be offering hugely discounted tickets for popular musicals. Watch out for updates on this perfect opportunity to head out for a relaxing night of entertainment with friends! **4) ICSS Xmas Bonanza ** This festive season, gather together with the rest of the society for our Christmas Bonanza! Feast on a scrumptious Christmas Dinner which will be specially prepared for you by the ICSS Executive Committee! Top on the menu is the Flaming Turkey Chicken that is bound to whet your appetite. Attendees are strongly encouraged to put their Fiesta training to good use and bring along some of your own Christmas creations to contribute to the potluck. Aside from all the mouth watering food, unite amongst your batches and fight it out to win the Christmas Tree Decoration competition! What’s more, sign yourself up with our Event’s Officer today for the event to register yourself for the Xmas Gift Exchange with your Santa and Reindeer. There is just one rule: dress up in the festive colours of red, green and gold. If you’re really in some jingle bell rock mood, come dressed in your favourite Christmas character and stand a chance to win the best dressed prize! Registration for this event is unfortunately closed. Remember to sign up early next time around! Date: 15th January 2010 (Tentative) Contact: shurenlin@hotmail.com **7) The Production 2011** The climax to the ICSS calendar of events is slowly taking shape in the form of the Production 2011! This is the one event that every ICSS member must be a part of! If you’ve yet to sign yourself up with the team, don’t procrastinate any further. The Production will be a musical/drama/performance which will showcase the talents and culture of the Singaporean community here at Imperial College London. Look out for updates on the progress and get involved! Most of us are all beginners and rehearsals will be catered to your pace of learning! As for those who want to help out with Dance, be it with choreographing/managing wardrobes etc, please don’t hesitate and sign up now! **8) ICSS Spring Expedition** The road trip that no one is to miss! IMPT: Nottingham Games 2010 @ Nottingham University (13 Nov 2010) ----------------------------------------------------------------- NOTTS Game is this SATURDAY!!! **13th November 2010** Thanks for the overwhelming response! This year, we will be sending in a contingent of 82 sportsmen and sportswomen competing with Singaporean friends from other universities in over 10 different sports and games. We will be meeting at Beit Quad at **5:30 am** on **Saturday, 13th November 2010**. The bus will leave Beit at 6:30 am sharp in order to reach Nottingham University punctually by 9:30 am. So please do not be late! We are expected to return to London at around 9:30 pm. Please bring the following: * 13 pounds in exact change for the bus ride to Nottingham so as to facilitate the collection of money. * Your ICSS Sports Jersey (if you have one, or otherwise, you will be issued one on the bus ride) * Your own lunch, as no lunch will be provided Also, for those participating, do get the numbers of your Sports captains and keep them informed of your whereabouts throughout the whole event. Be sure to wear your blue or white Sojourn t-shirt for the trip to Nottingham University to show our unity. Upon reaching our destination, please change to the sports tee to play the games. ICSS Musical Outing ----------------------------------------------------------------- To all ICSS members, ICSS will be organizing a trip to one of the popular musicals in the coming weeks. The title of the musical, time and venue has yet to be finalized. However, let me just give all of you a simple understanding of the way that we are going to release the tickets. Once I have the details of the musicals, I will post it on the Kaya and Toast, which will contain information regarding the purchase of the tickets. Talk Cock Sing Song Recruitment ----------------------------------------------------------------- To all freshers, As promised, ICSS will be organizing a karaoke session. This session will most likely be held in the first week after the Christmas break. In order to get new ideas from the freshers, we are now recruiting for freshers to form the organizing committee for this event. Thus for those who are very enthusiastic about the event, do sign up for it and make it a memorable one. This karaoke event is called “Talk Cock Sing Song” and it will be held in school. I will need freshers to assist me in organizing it be giving me ideas about it and making it more interesting. ICSS Stance on Piracy ----------------------------------------------------------------- We refer to the previous post of Lightroom about participants being able to acquire pirated copies. ICSS would like to retract that statement and reiterate that our society in no manner condones piracy, resorts to piracy or participates in the illegal copy and distribution of any commercial non-public domain product. We recommend that there are often free alternatives available (e.g., freewares) and even for paid copies there are often trial periods where the user may use the software or product with varying degrees of restriction on the product's features.
