Personally, the feeling was bittersweet. It was bitter because the journey has been such an amazing one but as always, good things will have to come to an end. It was sweet as I watched on the passionate wave of new blood take up the positions, raring to invigorate the society and see to the continuity of the ICSS tradition and legacy. There are countless people who have added meaning and colour to my entire experience as a whole. I find it extremely hard to put pen these words of thanks down, for words simply pale in comparison to magnitude of heartfelt gratitude and emotions that I am feeling now. However, I would still like to thank a number in passing: * To the Seniors, your care and concern simply portrays the love and undying passion for the long-standing tradition. Your guidance and maturity is unparalleled and something we truly treasure. For the graduating Seniors, I shudder at the loss that the ICSS will suffer upon your graduation. You will be sorely missed. * To my Batchmates, you have provided unwavering support for the 28th Executive Committee. Your spirit and heart for the ICSS was never in doubt, and each one of you have contributed significantly to what we have built up over the past year. A special thank you goes out to my dear ex-Weeks Hall hallmates/current housemates (Gladys, Gerbert, Qihan, James, Karen and Shin) for standing by me all this while. I am indeed blessed to have such a great bunch of friends. May our strength and unity as the 28th Batch continue to live on forever! * To my Executive Committee, there is nothing more that a President could have asked for.  You guys have been an absolute joy to work with! Our journey has been one of ups and downs but we have stuck together firmly as a team. Thank you for the beautiful memories that I will never forget! As my final words, I would like to bring up one last challenge to the Freshers of ICSS. Now is the time for your batch to step up and take over the baton. The marathon will be a long and arduous one but it is with hope and faith that all of you will be able to stick close together just as the 28th Batch has done, sustaining that burning desire and passion for the society. The Seniors will be here to guide you, but the Society will be significantly what the 29th Batch of people make it to be. Do us proud and fly the ICSS flag high! Over the past year, we organised countless events, from Seniors’ Farewell Party to Sojourn, right up to Ski Trip and Major Event. Without the participation and support of every one of you, none of these events would have been possible, let alone a success. Thank you. When I first ran for my position, I had ambitious plans and creative ways of bringing everyone together. I had my ideas on how everything could have been improved, how we could achieve what we set out to achieve. Yet, as time passed, I realised that successful events required more than just excellent planning. They require people getting themselves involved. They require a sincere organising committee. Most importantly, they require people to believe in the society. Singsoc is a society run by friends, for friends. Being an Exco member means committing yourself to organising events for the people that matter to you. Being a Singsoc member means you are part of a society that you care for, which cares for you as well. This is what distinguishes us, what we are about. Nothing in our constitution can ever enforce this special identity on us. Our culture and tradition can only be passed on through actions, from one batch to the next. Like how our seniors have taken care of us, we have taken care of our juniors. Now, it is their time to step up and pass this spirit on. I have every confidence that the 29th Exco and their batch-mates are ready to rise to the occasion and do their part for their juniors.  Fellow seniors (and seniors-to-be), the journey the 29th Exco is about to embark will be a difficult one, involving much time, effort and sacrifice. It is my hope that we give our utmost support to them during their term. Turning up at their events, helping them out wherever you can or even giving a word of encouragement will go a long way in making them feel that what they are doing is worth the while. After all, the sacrifices they will make are all for us and our society. Thank you 28th Exco for being in this journey with me over the past year. It was difficult, but fulfilling. The memories we shared will stay with me for a long time to come. This is probably the last time I will be saying this to all of you, as members of the Exco. Good job guys, we have met our objective. I recall drafting my first Esplanade (the name of our previous newsletter) – and in a blink of an eye, this 38th issue of Singsoc newsletter sent by me now marks the end of this remarkable journey for me as your ICSS Secretary. While there will be so much to be missed as our 28th EXCO moves on to another phase of our university lives,  the wonderful memories and friends that I have made over the year will last me a long way through. Thank you to everyone who has crossed my path in some way or other during my term. My time in the EXCO would not have been complete without you people who truly make Singsoc what it is meant to be – a bonded society where we can call a home away from home. Thank you especially to the other 7 members of the 28th EXCO – Wenjun, Bryan, Hao Yi, Sid, Shuren, Hong Yi and Jun Ying. Though we faced countless difficulties along the way, things did work out in the end and that would not have been possible without all your dedication and hard work. It has been truly such a memorable time working with you guys and I’ve certainly learnt a lot from all of you. Thank you, as well, to my coursemates and housemates for your presence at and participation in Singsoc activities, and for your support, care and concern for me. As the 29th EXCO takes over and strives towards greater aspirations, I hope that all of you will continue to support Singsoc and its activities. And to the 29th EXCO, I wish you all the best in your upcoming journey and I look forward to an exciting year ahead for Singsoc under your leadership. It seemed like just yesterday that the eight of us sat in the KFC off Gloucester, eager to make ICSS as much a home for the incoming year as it was for us. Now, twelve months on, the time has come for a new group of nine to step up and for us old folks to say our goodbyes. At this juncture, I would thus like to express my heartfelt thanks to the people who have made the past year a journey truly like none other.  * To my beloved fellow Exco:  A big thank you for all the wonderful and often crazy memories of ICSS. The things that we did together were simply awesome. From Bryan’s delectable poses at the pageant training sessions to Sid’s stellar driving skills, I will definitely cherish these memories for many years to come. You guys were honestly the best teammates that one could ask for and I sincerely hope that we’ll get the chance to work together again. (How about organizing private clubbing events during summer? =p) * To the dance team: Major Event just wouldn’t have been the same without each and every one of you. Thank you for filling my evenings with endless laughs and chatter, for making me feel at home with you lot even though I’m such an old and stiff fellow and for being such good friends to me throughout the three arduous months of rehearsals. I will most certainly remember the times we spent together in the Chem Café Area (especially that one time where I got my manly scar) and wish you guys the very best in all your future endeavors. * To my housemates: A sincere thank you for all the moral support and for being so understanding throughout this term. It really is heartwarming to have a family to go home to after a long day (P.S. I promise to make up for all the hasty meals that I cooked before rushing off to practice). * Last but not least, I would like to express my gratitude to all the seniors who have helped the 28ths in one way or another.  Thank you for stepping forward to be OGLs, game masters, scriptwriters and even dancers when it was never an obligation and for supporting us all the way to the end. You guys were truly pillars of ICSS. ~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~. *Siddhartha, Events Officer 28th EXCO* Right, so the AGM just came to a successful close, with the (very capable) 29th Executive Committee getting elected, and now, I’ve been allowed some space to give some final words to the society. Well, I wish I had some words of wisdom or some enlightenment message to share, but since I don’t, I will instead like to leave a (rather long) thank you message: Thank you, first and foremost, to all my other 28th Executive Committee colleagues; i.e., Wenjun, Bryan, Yuleng, (humsup) Haoyi, Shuren, Hongyi & Junying. It’s difficult to describe truly in words how much fun and memorable it was to work alongside each and every one of you. Thank you to all the seniors from the 27th & 26th executive committees for their wonderful advice & guidance. Would like to give a special mention to Kailong & Anne, who at times went the extra mile to help me out. Thank you to all the wonderful batchmates who helped and supported our events. The wonderful OGLs, gamemasters, QRF, subject reps, etc etc. Special mention to David Lee, who has helped me a lot on more than one occasion. Thank you to all the freshers that I have met in the last year, and for putting up the wonderful Production 2011. Thank you to the music team for making my job SO much easier and SO much fun. Thank you to all my friends who listened to my rants, or consoled me when I was down, or covered for me when I was not around (lab buddy, jx!). Thank you to my housemates for being around to help and support. And just to make sure I have not missed out anyone, thank you to ALL my friends for supporting/helping/guiding me in any big or small way. Thank you. Now that I’ve reduced everyone to tears, including myself, just would like to wish the new committee all the best, plenty of success and a good year ahead. One year passed very quickly and I have already handed over my position of Events Officer of ICSS to my successor. The past year has been very eventful. The numerous events that I have planned brought me great memories and I think that will not be so if not for the active participation of the members. From Sojourn to Major Event, I got to know many of you and I sincerely hope that you guys enjoyed the events. As I step down, I want to express my utmost appreciation to all those who have participated in our events or contribute in one way or another to ICSS, without whom it would not be possible for us to have successful events, one after another. Without the participation of all of you, this would have been impossible. I hope all of you enjoyed the sporting events throughout the year and please continue to support the new sports officer, Yu Xiang, in all the sporting events. Also, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my sports captains, Derek, Cherie, Shawn, Jun Xiang, Don, Jia Jia and Yong Feng, for all the support they had given me throughout the year. You guys are really wonderful! Let the ICSS tradition of bonding Singaporeans together through sweat continues in the years to come. All the best, Hong Yi 28th ICSS Exco - Sports Officer ~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~. *Jun Ying, Liaisons Officer 28th EXCO* It has been a great honour to serve the Singaporean community in my capacity as the Liaisons Officer for the duration of my term. While it is with a tinge of can't-let-it-go feeling, I am entirely confident that the newly-elected 29th EXCO will bring our society to new heights, to create even more awesome events, to foster bonds, to save freshers from the miasma of necessary of immigration paperwork and the uncertainties of living abroad, and most importantly, to be a home away from home. The unprecedented formulation of the Major Events Officer will have profound effects on the work dynamic but I have faith that the EXCO will be able to take on the burden and the aspirations that my EXCO and the rest of the society have put on them. To my protege, feel free to seek advice from any of your entire Liaisons family line of enthusiastic seniors. We will always be around to answer the call and to help in the event of a catastrophic server crash (P.S. always back up with an SQL dump before you try something. I learnt this the hard way MANY times) To the rest of the society, I hope you all will support the EXCO in everything they do, and make your feedback known (if you disagree or agree or have better ideas). We are Singaporeans but cannot complain all the time mah! To the rest of my EXCO, it has been a terrific journey and I am thankful for being part of it.
