That's the key thing now. Never mind how we got to be who we are."

5. Major Event 2017

Hello everyone!!

I hope that Major Event 2016: My Singapore Girl has been an incredible experience for all of you and has inspired many of you to contribute next year! So let us write a new chapter together and let it be an incredible one!!

First things first - It’s official!!! Major Event 2017 will be held on 18 February 2017 at the Great Hall!!!

To kick off this journey, we are calling for scripts to feature next year. So let your creative juices flow! If you have a story you’re dying to tell or are just itching to write something down, share it with us and you might end up having yours featured! There is no theme requirement, but do keep in mind that we hope to showcase our Singapore culture to the Imperial community! So throw in what you admire about Singapore: our icons, our stereotypes or even our linguistics fine! Also, in the spirit of integration, I hope that you would allow potential entries for songs, dances and music!

The deadline for the preliminary draft is 8 May 2016. Too rushed? Don’t worry!! We minimally require a plot synopsis of your script at this point, but a finished script is always welcome! My team and I would work together with you to strengthen your script and the final deadline for the finished script will be on 12 June 2016.

Do submit all scripts anytime now till the deadlines to this email: majorevent@ic-singsoc.net. If you have any questions as well, feel free to email me at this address!

Happy writing :)

Your ecstatic Major Event Officer,
Jasper

6. Retrospect

HI EVERYONE!

We are taking orders for RETROSPECT 2016!

RETROSPECT is Imperial College Singapore Society's triennially-published yearbook and captures the memories of our Society for the past three years, as well as the stories of our fellow Singaporeans in Imperial College.

RETROSPECT 2016 will be in the form of a hard-cover book, with a mix of pictures and write-ups bound to have you flipping the pages over and over to relive the past! This book is a must-get, especially if you will be graduating soon, as the next edtion will be in 2019...

Furthermore, we have managed to secure a significant amount of sponsorship for this project (YAY!!), we have managed to reduce the price of the book to £10 (really worth it - a hard copy coffee table book!) and you can purchase the book HERE.

Collection of RETROSPECT 2016 will be done at Singsoc Farewell Party (SFP) 2016, which will be some time in late May.

So what are you waiting for? Grab them before they run out!

Your Editor-in-Chief,
Ivan

8. Karanguni 2016

Seniors!

Are you tired of throwing away perfectly usable items that were painstakingly saved up for at the expense of Oriental Canteen/Eastern Star meals? Fret not! Karanguni 2016 is a revamped initiative that will serve as a platform to connect sellers with potential buyers of used items within the ICSS community.

How to sell? - it's easy as 1, 2, 3

1. A closed facebook group will be set up HERE (and linked to the ICSS facebook page) which interested sellers and buyers can request to join.

2. Once in, members will find photo albums of the following categories:
  • Stationary
  • Books
  • Kitchen ware
  • Electrical appliances (rice cookers go here)
  • Electronics
  • Furniture
  • Others
If a seller wishes to put items up for sale, he/she need only post a photo in the correct album and use the following template in the captions:
"
List of items:
1.[item] – [price] – [condition 0-10/10] – [position in photo]*
2.[item] – [price] – [condition 0-10/10] – [position in photo]
3.[item] – [price] – [condition 0-10/10] – [position in photo]
Detailed description:
1.detail
2.detail
3.detail
Contacts:
Name –  (will be facebook tagged when posted)
Phone number (optional) –
Email – OR "contact via Facebook message"
"
3. If you wish to revise your pricing or have sold an item, simply comment in your photo to update potential buyers!

How to buy?
Simply scroll through the photo album you're interested in and Facebook message the seller to link up for negotiations! Otherwise, contact the seller via the phone number or email address left in the photo caption.

Note:
  • *It is recommended that sellers put multiple items into each photo so as not to clog up the photo albums. We seek your understanding and co-operation if the group's moderator requests for your photos to be condensed.
  • ICSS will not be liable for any damages or fraudulent transactions that might occur as a result of using the Karanguni Facebook group. The ExCo will employ due diligence in ensuring all members within the closed group are legitimate ICSS members and items posted are legitimate but shall be absolved from responsibility over the transactions between members.
We hope that this initiative will help to pull ICSS closer together and allow seniors to pass on their used items to juniors who might not want to pay full retail price for certain necessities. No more byebye items, only buybuy items(:

Also, if you wish to donate any of your old items such as cutlery and stationery to the incoming 2016 freshers, do drop us an email at admin@ic-singsoc.net for more information!

Nathanael
