Hi everyone! We have a day trip coming up in late November! For this Autumn Trip, we will be going to Stratford-Upon-Avon! :D
This beautiful market town, steeped in culture and history, is the birthplace of William Shakespeare. Set in the beautiful rural Warwickshire countryside, on the banks of the river Avon, it is one of the most important tourist destinations in the UK. Join the guided walking tours (£5) and follow in Shakespeare's footsteps from cradle to grave, along the historic spine of ancient Stratford, while learning more about his story (trust me! guided tours are worth it!). Or if you prefer travelling independently, you could do a free walk using the map I've indicated in the link below. There are many places to see in the town! Come visit Shakespeare's Birthplace (£14), and watch some of his best-loved scenes brought to life by actors as you stroll through the house; as well as Anne Hathaway's Cottage (£8), the childhood home of Shakespeare's wife. Or take a walk along the River Avon Trail, and admire the beautiful scenery along the way. If you like, you could also rent a bike for half a day to explore the town (£10)! Or just relax by the riverside with your friends! For those interested in creative inventions, you could make a trip down to the Mechanical and Art Design Museum (MAD) (£5)! Stratford-upon-Avon also offers options for shopping as well, with its collection of unusual and appealing shops set amongst major high street stores.
The details are as follows:
Date: 23 November 2013 (Saturday)
Time: Leave ICL at 0830, leave Stratford Upon Avon at 1700
Price: £8 (members), £10 (non-members)
This covers the price of the return coach ride. Members are welcomed to invite friends along (up to 2). But take note that priority will be given to members.
The people who managed to sign up will shortly receive a confirmation email with payment instructions. Your place will only be confirmed when you make payment before a stipulated date (to be communicated to you separately again).
One famous quote by William Shakespeare about exploring unchartered territories goes like this: "To unpathed waters, to undreamed shores." So, I hope this has gotten you excited about exploring this interesting place! We've got 49 slots so do sign up quickly over here!
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me at eventsofficer1@ic-singsoc.net.
See you there!
Your friendly Events Officer,
Yu Zheng
It's been a fulfilling year and it's time to pass on the baton! We are privileged and thankful to have the support from all of you! Some of you might have taken part in our regional events, SginC or UK Pre-departure talk. The UKSSC is having our Annual General Meeting cum Elections on 16 Nov 2013 @ Wilkins Gustave Tuck Lecture Theatre, University College London.
Formed in August 1998, the United Kingdom-Singapore Students’ Council (UKSSC) is an independent, student-led organisation that aims to create a bona fide Singapore student community across the United Kingdom. The UKSSC works closely with the various societies, government organisations and private agencies to achieve this.
We strongly encourage everyone, who is keen to serve the wider Singaporean student community in the UK, to run for the elections. Both current students and freshers are most welcome to run for the elections. Over the last few years, freshers have held key positions including Vice President, Treasurer and Regional Director. If you are interested in running for any position/wish to nominate your peers, please visit http://www.ukssc.org/annual-general-meeting-2013/ to find out more.
Thank you and look forward to your nominations!
Cheers,
The UKSSC
