Digest

Hello everyone!

To all the freshers, welcome to your first issue of Kaya and Toast!
The Kaya and Toast Times is our ICSS bi-weekly newsletter produced by your ExCo, and it updates you with upcoming events organized by your beloved ExCo, lobangs in Singapore/London as well as career opportunities from our sponsors. We hope you enjoy the future servings of Kaya and Toast! 😁

If you are feeling overwhelmed by the amount of links and forms that you have to fill in, don't worry! ICSS now has a Linktree which contains all of the aforementioned links and forms.

For the seniors, this issue also contains some information about
Sojourn this year! Look forward to an exciting time brought to you by our EOs and keep your eyes peeled for more information!

Hope everyone is having a great summer; take care and stay safe, and hope to see you all at our future events!

Your suffering-from-an-uneven-tan Secretary,
Yuyang

My girlfriend told me, 'You act like a detective too much. Let's split up.'
'Good idea,' I replied. 'We can cover more ground that way.'

Our annual Pre-Departure Talk was held last Saturday over Microsoft Teams with an amazing turnout of 106 guests. Thank you seniors and academic reps for volunteering your time and for helping to make the event a success!

If you have any feedback about the event (whether as a fresher or a senior), do let us know at https://tinyurl.com/PDT2020Feedback

2. Message for the Freshers

Hey Freshers!

Thank you for attending Saturday’s Pre-Departure Talk. We hope that the event has helped you to get a clearer idea of the pre-departure administrative details, to get to know your batchmates and seniors, and to get to know more about the Imperial College Singapore Society (ICSS).

For those who have not been able to attend today's talk, fret not, you will be able to access the slides from today's talk at this portal: https://linktr.ee/ICSS2021

In the portal, you will also be able to find the Sotong Guide 2020 and the Freshers’ Package form. If you have not filled it in yet, please do so soon! You will be able to indicate interest for a series of freshers’ events and initiatives in this form, which include:

  • Sojourn, our annual orientation camp
  • Mums and Dads, a new initiative launched this year to allow you to meet more people within the ICSS family
  • Play@ICSS, a group of sports interest groups organised among ICSS members.
  • Ski Trip, organised by ICSS
  • Major Event, our annual musical production in London
  • ICSS Photokakis, our ICSS photography interest group

You can also find the Sojourn Indemnity Form in the same portal. Do complete it, scan and send to our Events Officers, Leanne and Gillian, at eventsofficer1@ic-singsoc.net. Submission of the completed Indemnity Form is essential for your participation in Sojourn.

If you have any feedback for today's Pre-Departure Talk, do let us know at this link: https://tinyurl.com/PDT2020Feedback.

We would like to thank you again for attending today's Pre-Departure Talk. If you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us again. We hope to see you at the upcoming freshers events such as Sojourn, and in London as well!

Lots of love,
The 38th ExCo

3. Sojourn 2020: Enigma

Hey everyone!

A big thank you to all the people who have signed up for Sojourn so far! Really excited to meet all of you at
Sojourn 2020: Enigma. It will be held from the 28th to 30th of August (Fri to Sun).

For all of those who have yet to sign up and are thinking about it, don’t worry! Sign ups close 5th August (Wednesday). The link is https://tinyurl.com/SojournEnigma (yes, you're allowed to change your mind even if you've indicated "no" on the freshers' package form).

Do feel free to email us at eventsofficer1@ic-singsoc.net if you have any questions!

Your part-time-detective EOs,
Gillian and Leanne

4. Mums and Dads

Hey freshers!

It is us (again!) Apprehensive about meeting new people? Well, we got you all covered! Introducing *drum roll please!* the Mums and Dads initiative! 🥳  Mums and Dads is aimed to allow you to get to know some of your peers and seniors. 2 seniors will be your so-called parents and a few of your batchmates would be your siblings. This family system would be matched as much as possible based on similar hobbies and interests. The seniors would be organising informal meet-ups for you to bond together. All these and more for grand total of $0! That's right, this initiative is FREE (with no hidden costs or terms and conditions). So what are you waiting for? Sign up through the Freshers' Package or through this link if you have already submitted the Freshers' Package form.

Your double-income-no-kids (yet) EOs,
Gillian and Leanne
