1. ICAAS 40th Anniversary Gala Dinner

The Imperial College Alumni Association of Singapore (ICAAS) celebrated its 40th Anniversary on 4 September 2017 with a Gala Dinner at the Fullerton Hotel. 40 of our current students attended the dinner.

With more than 300 alumni and guests attending the 40th anniversary celebrations, ICAAS had the honour of hosting Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean, who is also ICAAS Patron, as the Guest-of-Honour of the event. During the dinner, DPM Teo also engaged the audience with a dialogue on the topic of “Science and Innovation as our next engine of economic growth”.

ICAAS also played host to the leadership from regional Imperial College alumni associations from Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shenzhen. Professor Alice Gast, President of Imperial College London, was also present for the special night.

We would like to thank ICAAS for giving our talented students the opportunity and privilege to perform at this special occasion. Two songs – “I Wanna Be Someone” & “You’ll Be Mine” – originally composed for our recent annual production, Major Event 2017: GETAI, were performed. You can watch the performance HERE! Photographs of the event are also available HERE

ICSS would like to wish ICAAS a very Happy 40th Anniversary!

4. Message from the President

Hi everyone!!!

Our summer events calendar has finally come to a close with last week's UKBound at Stewords Riverboat! It has been yet another eventful summer, kicking off with our Pre-Departure Talk (PDT), followed by Sojourn, Warwick Summer Games (WSG) and finally UKBound. I hope that everyone has enjoyed the summer events, and that they have got you looking forward to more exciting times in London!

On behalf of the 35th Executive Committee, I would like to sincerely thank all the enthusiastic participants of our summer events! First impressions count, and certainly the many seniors who turned up for our PDT showcased the impressive size and strength of our Singaporean community in Imperial to our incoming freshers and their parents. We then went on to give a big, warm Sojourn welcome to our freshers, inducting them into our family in a home away from home. Of course, all this was made possible because of the time and effort that the OGHs and OGLs put in, perhaps at the expense of their personal time with friends and family. We thank you for your sacrifices and contributions, for without you Sojourn would not have been the success that it was. And to our newly-inducted freshers, thank you for your enthusiasm and energy throughout our events, and a big welcome into our Imperial family!

With our hearts full from Sojourn, we went on to put up a great fight at WSG! I'm sure that all our participants had a great time out on the fields and courts with your friends, and win or lose, we brought home an experience and a slightly more fitspo body. Finally, to end things off with a bang, we had UKBound, the ultimate party and finale to our events in Singapore! Revamped and refreshed, this year's UKBound brought students from universities all over the UK together for a night of food, fun and fantastic performances. The support we received from the Imperial community for this event was tremendous, and for that you have our utmost gratitude!

I guess what I want to say is that for all of this summer's (mis)adventures, one thing is definitely for sure - you guys have been a tremendous source of support. Fresher or senior, you have made summer such an exciting and fulfilling one. Your support tells us that you believe in the things we do, and more importantly, it inspires us to continue doing our best for you and the larger ICSS family.

We sincerely hope that you have thoroughly enjoyed yourself over the course of summer, and rest assured that the 35th EXCO will push on to bring you more meaningful events throughout the rest of our term. We also hope to have your continued support, for it is only when we work together that we can be one big happy family.

Enjoy the rest of summer, eat more Singaporean food and I look forward to seeing everyone back in London!

Your content and proud President,
<3ong
