Hi everyone,
How are you all enjoying your summer? Spice it up even more by joining ICSS in our summer events below!
Firstly, UKBound: Vogue has arrived! It will be held at Zouk, on 15th Sept (Saturday). More details can be found below. If you want to wish to help out with the event, you may contact Ting Wei at eventsofficer1@ic-singsoc.net.
Also back in town, we have the annual Warwick Summer Games! Our sports officer has a fierce hunger for the top spot this year. Do not let his call to arms fall upon deaf ears! It's once again time to take up your weapons, bats, racquets, and sticks, and march to face the challenge! It is time to sound the horn and claim the title which was so nearly ours before. Sign up now!
Thirdly, the DPM Dialogue is this Wednesday, 25th July. Don't miss out on the chance to engage DPM Teo on social media and its role in shaping society.
Last among the events, UKSSC has organised a forum with Minister Chan Chun Sing on the 4th of August, with our Singapore Identity as a theme. Personally, I find this yet another topic that is close to our hearts, with the recent influx of foreigners and resultant shift in our identity.
I would also like to express my appreciation for all those who attended the recently concluded Pre-Departure Talk, on behalf of the Exco. Your continued support is essential to the success of our events and the event really would not have been possible without your dedication to and belief in our mission to create a home away from home for all Singaporeans.
Finally, if you recall, we held our Logo Design Competition sometime ago. The results and the new logo is now out! Check it out below.
P.S. There will be no real need for bats and racquets at this year's WSG, only floorball sticks, and your hands and feet. And brain.
Your faithful secretary,
Captain Obvious (Gabriel)

4. Pre-Departure Talk 2012
A big thank you to all those who came down for the Pre-Departure Talk held on the 13th of July, Friday, especially all our wonderful Acad Reps! Although the venue may not have been the ideal place for a mingling session, the enthusiasm of the seniors more than made up for it. It is truly heartening to see many of you aiding the freshers in their exciting new journey. In addition, with an encouraging number of sign-ups, we look to be in a good position to claim the Warwick Summer Games trophy this year! Once again, thank you all for your enthusiasm and may we all continue our efforts in building our ICSS family.

6. Freshers' Walkabout
Remember feeling like a complete blur sotong on your first day in London? Remember how you were led by your amazing seniors around the area, who navigated to all the essential places and good eats as if they had a mini-map in their heads? Well, it's now your chance to be that senior.
We are looking for enthusiastic seniors who can commit the entire day of 29th of September (preferably arriving earlier) and are willing to bring the freshers around on the walkabout. There is a big role to be filled here as you will be giving the freshers their first impression of London. Those with a good knowledge of the places around your previous hall (additional halls are a bonus) and of course, the various routes to Imperial, would be preferred. Needless to say, please make sure that you will be in London at this time!
OGLs are encouraged to sign up as the freshers will already recognise you, and so are Hall Seniors as the freshers will be seeing a lot more of you. That said, everyone is welcome. (:
If you're interested, please drop me an email at secretary@ic-singsoc.net with your name, SG and UK contact nos., email, date of arrival in the UK and previous halls of residence. The most important thing to note is still that you will be in London on the 29th and can commit the whole day. Thanks!
Your faithful secretary,
Gabriel Quek

8. SGin(C) 2012
Hi friends,
Singaporeans in Conversation, SGin(C) 2012, is an annual event organized by The United Kingdom Singaporean Students Council (The UKSSC). SGin(C) is a half-day event that not only attracts Singaporean students from local universities but also those in the UK, USA and China.
The forum this year is centred on the notion of the Singaporean identity and what it means to be a Singaporean. We will explore the challenges that our Singaporean society will be facing in the near future and how this would shape our identity. This topic is close to the hearts of Singaporean as we are constantly influenced by both internal and exogenous factors that shape our identity.
The dialogue will be geared towards exploring the true meaning of being a Singaporean. This subject seems all the more significant today following the recent spate of immigrant-related issues, ranging from curry to jobs.
Date: 4 August 2012
Time: 8.45am-1.00pm
Guest of Honour: Chan Chun Sing, Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports.
Venue: To be Advised
Theme: “The Singaporean Identity: Embracing the Inevitable? The Relevance of Who We Are”.
To sign up for SGin(C) 2012, please register via http ://tinyurl . com/sgincsignup
