1. Hyde Park Picnic (15 Oct 2011)

The sun’s slowly going to sleep, but before he does that, we’re going to (try) enjoy his warm, loving embrace one last time before the looooong winter.
 
It’s the annual ICSS Hyde Park Picnic! Held this Saturday, 15th October, at (obviously) Hyde Park, from 1000 h onwards, we’re going to have a lovely spread courtesy of the hard work of your seniors and Exco members (as usual). We’ll be meeting at the northern side of the Royal Albert Memorial, the big, golden, obiang ttm statue. The picnic itself will be near the horse statue (see photo below) in Hyde Park itself, so if you don’t see us at the Memorial it means we’re inside already and YOU’RE LATE.

We’ll be having the following activities at the picnic:

  • Football
  • Frisbee
  • Touch Rugby
  • Captain's Ball
  • The annual ICSS phototaking session - do stay till the end of the picnic to be part of the photographic evidence for our event!

Newcomers and experts are all welcome for these games! If you’d like to participate in any one of these sports, you can form your own teams, or sign up with Yuxiang by dropping him an email at sportsofficer@ic-singsoc.net.
 

Remember to come dressed for sports on the day itself to join in the fun!

Some food would be provided for you guys, courtesy of your lovely Exco members, so do come down to taste our love. OGLs, do remember to get your OG to bring sufficient food for potluck during the picnic itself as well!

Wackiest Photo Competition

There’s plenty of things to see and do in Hyde Park, so we’re holding the Wackiest Photo Competition, and the theme is Forever Love.

Simply take the wackiest photo you can think of, with anything in Hyde Park: it can be the statues, the benches, even the geese in the pond! After that, send it to eventsofficer1@ic-singsoc.net by Sunday, 16th October with a short description of how it fits with the theme, and await judging by none other than Fong himself. 

Remember, the funnier the photo, and the funnier the description, the more likely you are to win some very, very, VERY attractive prizes!

2. ICSS Autumn trip (29 Oct 2011)

The leaves are turning golden and the chill is coming in; it's autumn! Which also means it's time for the ICSS Autumn trip.

This year, we'll be heading to lovely Bristol on the 29th of October, Saturday. 

"But," you ask, "what's there to do in Bristol?"

Glad you asked! Bristol has a whole host of attractions, besides visiting your friends in Bristol University. There's the Clifton Suspension Bridge and M Shed, a museum dedicated to what it has meant to live in the region from prehistoric times to the current 21st century. There's also at Bristol, a science and technology museum, as well as the Bristol Zoo and Aquarium, both of which need no further elaboration.

We'll be meeting at the Beit Quadrangle at 8.15 am. The bus will leave at 8.45 am sharp, so do be early! We have limited seats available, so register on the Google spreadsheet early to book a spot. The bus trip will cost 15 pounds per person, with ICSS members getting a 2 pound subsidy.

3. Nottingham Games and other Sports updates!

Here's a shout-out from our Sports Officer, Yuxiang:

Thank you and a big welcome to those in Team Imperial for Nottingham Games! For those are keen on playing in the Games but have yet to sign up, the deadline has past. BUT, it's still not too late! Sign up now with our Sports reps, or myself NOW. The last registration with Nottingham would be by the end of this week. The same applies for people who previously indicated interest in several sports, we need you to do any official sign-up with one Sports rep now. The extensive list of sports and games is as follows:

Floorball session (19 Nov)
There would be a Floorball session at Wilson House next Wed, 19 Nov, from 4 - 6pm. Beginners and non-competitors for Nottingham Games are welcome! More details for the event would be up on Facebook soon.

Touch Rugby community
To all Touch Rugby or sports enthusiasts, there is an active Touch Rug community formed by members of UCL, Imperial and King's, which hold regular sports sessions for those who can't get enough of Touch Rugby. For people who are interested to play at their sessions, or for those who simply want to pick-up the sport, visit http ://www . touchrugby . isgreat . org for updates about their activities. Their upcoming session would be this Sat, 15 Oct, in conjuction with the Hyde Park Picnic.

4. ICSS Fiesta 2011

Here's a message from our Events Officer, Qin Zheng:

Hi everybody! 

I have heard of two halls that are already done with Fiesta and levelled up their culinary skills! To the seniors from the other halls, if you are feeling burnt out from cooking the same old wanton mee and sweet and sour pork every single day, here’s an opportunity for a culinary skill exchange with your friends from your previous halls, and at the same time, demonstrate your prowess and cook up delicacies for your freshers! And definitely, freshers, this is the rare chance for you to obtain some recipes from your seniors / learn how to broil, boil, fry, stir-fry, bake / learn how to chop garlic or season meat.

Ladies and gentlemen, the ICSS Fiesta is still on (till 2 Nov)!

Of course, the main highlight of Fiesta is a mini competition among halls. And, no prize no competition. You can stand to win the following attractive prizes -

  • The best caption for your dish
  • The most Singaporean dish
  • The dish with the best presentation

Here’s what you will have to do –

  1. Seniors and juniors to cook together at the hall.
  2. You may submit 3 – 5 dishes for the competition. Come up with a creative caption for each dish submitted.
  3. Take 01 x photo in the hall kitchen with the current hall residents and the seniors who were from the hall and also 01 x close-up photo of each dish prepared.
  4. Submit the photos to eventsofficer2@ic-singsoc.net by 2359HR on 02 Nov 2011. Name the respective close-up photos using the captions that you have come up with. Photos submitted later than 2359HR on 02 November will be returned with a thank you message.
  5. No taking away from Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, or any form of eating outlets and supermarkets.

5. OSU and Contact Singapore Welcome Tea Session (18 Oct 2011)

Hello everyone!

OSU and Contact Singapore are organizing a tea session for all Singaporeans (especially Freshers) on Tuesday the 18 Oct 2011. They’d like to share about how to keep in touch with Singapore and stay updated about the developments-including employment opportunities back home- while studying in London. It’ll be an informal gathering with a short presentation and sharing session, complete with refreshments.

8. Regent's Park Picnic ( 23 Oct 2011)

Hello all Singaporeans and friends!

Come join the biggest gathering of Singaporean students in the UK! Freshers and seniors are all welcomed to mingle in this informal setting. There will be free games (Frisbee, soccer, and of course please do suggest any games you want and we will try to secure the equipment) and food (provided by our particpating Partner Societies). Feel free to bring your own food and game equipment too. Even if you are not a member of any of the participating societies, do come along to picnic-hop along with everyone else!

Please also invite your friends along to the picnic!

At 12.30pm, there will be a MASSIVE photo shoot of all the Singaporeans who are at the picnic! So, please stay till the end, and be part of the photographic evidence of our 2nd Mass Singaporean Picnic in Regent's Park this time round! (:
