Updates

Hi everyone,

Now that Spring Term has begun full and proper, here are all the exciting things that are lined up and screaming for your attention. And trust me, you WANT to pay attention.

First and foremost, THE biggest event of the YEAR is just round the corner! Many months of preparation have gone by, hours of sweat, blood, tears and brain-juice has been spent on this endeavour. It's time to show the world what ICSS is made of. Come experience the adventures of 4 friends who will stop at nothing to make sure they manage to find their way back home to Singapore! And don't just come alone! Bring all your friends to Major Event 2013: Homecoming, showcasing Singapore and the ICSS. Please take note of the updated link.

Secondly, with regards to Chinese New Year, please note that the date for our reunion dinner has been changed from 9th Feb to 8th Feb (Friday). It is encouraged that you sign up in groups of up to 10 people! More details below. (: Oh, on a related note, the annual CNY carnival will be taking place at UCL once again. Scroll all the way to the bottom of this KnT to read about how you can set up your own stalls!

Third, as promised, and based on YOUR VOTES, there will be a musical outing to watch the Phantom of the Opera on the 12th of February! This highly popular, members-only opportunity is the final one for this year, so... fastest fingers first. Good luck.

Next up, some of us may recall fond memories of the "Who Boleh" series last year, of dodging bullets and balls, and of going head to head with our contemporaries from across the Johor Strait in a battle for culinary supremecy. This year, we once again come together with our neighbours for a day of fun and games. This time however, we will be having mixed teams from both societies, which is a chance for all to get to know the Malaysians better. So don't hesitate to seize this opportunity!

Finally, having heard the voice of the people, we would like to announce that the ICSS Spring Trip will be to the White Cliffs of Dover! As usual, first come first served, and your place can only be confirmed upon full payment. More details below.

And for the career oriented, there is 1 update, in the form of the Singapore Industry Scholarship.

With that, enjoy Spring! Boing boing.

Your faithful secretary,
Gabriel

Hi everyone! :)

The Chinese New Year (CNY) Reunion Dinner is here again! The Reunion Dinner is one of our oldest traditions starting in 1983, and has been a yearly highlight of our calendar where members of the Singsoc family gather to celebrate the new year together. This year is no different and we are planning a whole host of activities over the night to celebrate the occasion. That is of course, not to mention the comfort of celebrating this traditional holiday with familiar faces in the heart of Chinatown. The details are as follows:

Date: 8th February 2013 (Friday)
Time: Doors open 6.30pm; Dinner starts 7.00pm
Venue: Ding Hao Restaurant, 37-38 Gerrard Street, London Chinatown, London W1D 5QB

Do note that each round table can fit 10 people so it will be good if you can sign up in groups of 10. However, do not worry if you cannot find such a big group of people, simply sign up and we will group you guys together! :) We also require one person to be in charge of your group and we will liaise with him/her only.

Sign up early to secure your table! Here's the link to the sign up sheet:

7. CNY Carnival @ UCL

Hello Everyone!

As you may have heard, the respective alumni organizations from HCOSG(UK), RU, VinE, NJC and DHSYA(UK) are jointly organizing the CNY Carnival 2013 @ UCL. This will be an excellent opportunity to meet up with your friends from all over the UK, and to immerse yourself in the festive CNY atmosphere even while 7000 miles away from home!

To get everyone involved, we are inviting everyone and anyone to set up booths at the carnival! To hype up the festivities, we are looking for a variety of stalls ranging from CNY Foodfare to Souvenirs/Accessories to game stalls. Now is the time to let your creativity and entrepreneurship skills run wild!

The details of the event are as follows:
Date: 3rd February 2013 (Sunday)
Venue: University College London, North and South Cloisters
Time: 4 hours (exact time TBC)
Registration Fee:

  1. £22 for Food Stalls (by 25th January 2012)
  2. £10 for Game Stalls (by 25th January 2012)
  3. £20 Flat Deposit (per Club / Society / Individual)

We are introducing a new flat deposit system of £20 per society to facilitate with cleaning. Deposits will be returned if the stalls are returned to us in the same pristine condition as it was given. Hence, stall holders will be required to bring cleaning supplies for post-event clean up.

Please find the sign up form at  and submit it as soon as possible to avoid disappointment! This year, to ensure more variety, every stall will have a flagship food / drink / game that other stalls will not be able to sell. This will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
